Mamma Flora's Trattoria sits at the end of the Shop Rite Shopping Center at the corner of North Olden Avenue and Parkway Avenue in Ewing, NJ. It is surprisingly attractive inside with mirrored walls and large dining areas. Service was excellent, with friendly repartee and suggestions for first timers like me. I chose the eggplant parm sandwich, which came with chips. For two bucks more, I could have had a side salad. Prices were right at $7.25 for this grinder. I made a good selection, because the hot sammy arrived a few minutes later steaming from its visit to the oven to melt the cheese and crisp the good Italian torpedo roll. The eggplant had been sliced very thin and sautéed in olive oil before making its way to the roll where the chef put the remaining pieces together. I appreciated that the nightshade was so thin that it was easy to heat and remained fully tender. No breading to add unwanted calories; just ripe melanzane. The homemade red sauce was slightly sweet with a nice basil undertone. The mozzarella was also quality and did not sweat from the oven's heat. The roll was crunchy and good tasting (although I only ate half of it). This was a very good rendition, although next time I would ask for extra sauce on the side as there wasn't quite enough to fully mix with the base ingredients below. Still, Momma Flora's was a pleasant surprise for a neighborhood osteria. I will definitely return to try the tomato pie and some of their dinner offerings. read more

The worst restaurant I've been to. No wonder no customers were there. They were basically standing there taking care of take outs & didn't care that we entered & standing there without any greetings. Told us to hep ourselves to where we wanted to sit after 5 min. The couple of tables by us were dirty & full of half eaten food spread all over. The waitress was nice but after waiting for our food for 35 minutes, they brought the worst dish. Their egg plant was not even cooked at all...no sauce @ disgusting color & foul taste. The Chicken parm was an old piece of frozen chicken. I had to reject my dish. We basically paid $15 for water & diet coke & half eaten bread out of the chicken parm. Stay away from this place. I regret not taking pics from their disgusting food. They really don't know how to run a business..!! read more

Even during quarantine, this local eatery knows how to provide excellent service and delicious food. Ordering food from Mama Flora's was quick and easy, and the food was ready very soon. Visiting Princeton as a pitstop on our way home. Staying close to this restaurant and ordered the Sicilian pizza. It was amazing! I'm a fussy eater and the pizza was cooked well, but not burnt. Bottom crust was crispy and middle was soft. We got a half and half pizza and the order was correct. Lots of sauce, cheese and toppings. Wish we lived here to get it again! So I ordered take out from here for the first time a few days ago.. I originally tried using the online ordering system, but for some reason it wouldn't let me place the order. I called, and the man who answered, Gary (not sure if he's the manager or owner..?) said they don't deliver to my street. This place is only about 3 miles from the house but when I punched it into my gps I realized it's actually a 16 minute drive! Gary was super nice and took 10% off my bill because I drive so far to get there. Made my day. As for the food: Appetizer sampler - fried calamari, fried crab-stuffed mushrooms, fried mozzarella, and fried artichokes. Yes, it was a lot of fried food. Yes, I felt guilty after eating it. This came with marinara sauce and some sort of tomato-butter-garlic sauce (which was fantastic). The mushrooms and artichokes were definitely a favorite. I also got the chicken amari, which consisted of a big slab of chicken surrounded by pasta, roasted red peppers, artichokes, and mushrooms. The sauce was really good, apparently its a brandy based sauce. Quite tasty! I think it would have looked more presentable if the chicken was cut up and mixed in, but that's just me being picky ;) And finally, I had ordered a spinach/broccoli/chicken calzone that I had for dinner the following day. I crisped it up in the oven and it turned out great. Their marinara sauce isn't the most flavorful I've had, and I'm honestly not a fan, but the calzone was awesome by itself. Their dough was flaky, crunchy, and flavorful, even after being put in the fridge and then reheated. I'm definitely interested in trying more of their dishes!! read more

Bread & olive oil out immediately; but be careful...the bread is additive - in the best way possible...leave room for what's to come. Best panini sandwiches ever...super fresh ingredients on wonderful bread! Service provided by an attentive, and so very courteous waiter, Kenny... responsive to any need, but giving us all the time & space we needed to enjoy our leisurely lunch. I was extremely disappointed with The clams casino. They were so rubbery and chewy. If they didn't over cook them then they would have been delish. The pizza in my opinion is the best thing they have . The fried shrimp was good but it was a small portion. The eggplant parmesan was pretty good as well nothing to knock your socks off and the wings were alright just a bit hard. read more

The family and I stayed at Springhill Suites Marriott and was searching for a great Italian restaurant nearby. Came across Mamma Flora's through Yelp. Great family restaurant with a friendly staff. Fresh bread came out nice and hot, dipped it in olive oil and Italian seasoning which held us over til the food came. The food came out pretty fast. Pizza was very good and cheesy---crust to perfection. Cheesesteak was on point and the spaghetti marinara was packed with flavory tomato goodness. Service was outstanding and I highly recommend trying this place out when you want some good Italian food. read more

Okay, so the food's cheap but you get what you pay for. My last order was a white pizza, burger, and Mac n cheese bites. None of them were particularly good. I eat at Mamma Flora's at least twice a month, usually takeout. I love everything there. Unfortunately tonight I got the salted caramel cheesecake--it's overbaked, far too firm, and tastes like it's spent a day too long waiting to be eaten in the fridge. Usually a huge fan of everything, especially gluten free options for pasta, but a little disappointed in that one item. That said, I recommend the cheese fries, the pasta and pizzas, and ESPECIALLY the house balsamic dressing. That dressing gives me life. read more

Went here for take out. If you dine in the environment is very clean and quaint. Very relaxing and upscale vibe. On to the food...I ordered wheat penne in vodka sauce. I am a biiiiig connoisseur of vodka sauce and I just say this is the best ive had from any restaurant. It tasted fresh and authentic with great flavor. The cashier was extremely friendly and addressed me by my name (something which has become outdated in the customer service business). I would recommend anyone to come here particularly if you have a taste for pasta. Haven't tried their pizza but may put that on my bucket list soon. For now I will continue to grab this pats dish periodically throughout the week for my lunches. read more

I enjoy this place consistently. Upon walking in the place feels pleasant (ie , air conditioned or heated well). They let us pick our own seat which I really like. Breads are warm, salads cool and crisp, many times they have simple chicken soup which is great. We love their pizza and recently - oh man I tried the cheesesteak and it made passionate love to me (God knows I can use that, you'd know if you saw how I look). I find the sauce on Veal Parmigiana a bit acidic. I withheld one star as the waitress means well but could be a bit warmer or nicer. this place is the bomb. I used grub hub twice and so far no issues. I've ordered their cheesesteaks which were pretty big and juicy. I just recently got the chicken parm dinner which was out of this world. I was skeptical because of how expensive the parm dinner was but the chicken took up half of the container and they gave me a side salad with bread. I had so much left overs the next morning that i eventually gave it to my boyfriend because I couldn't eat it all. Hands down the best chicken parm i've ever had in my life.
