Just fat pieces claiming to be steak.
Madison L.

I called to verify that they were making fish & chips tonight and off the bat the girl was rude answering the phone. I called back once I had the whole family's orders written down to place a takeout order and this time the girl was rather nice and very helpful. They had a steak salad on the menu as well as a pear salad, I have some food restrictions due to allergies so I asked for the pear salad with steak on it as I knew everything would be fine for me to eat but also be a substantial amount of food... I was told "no, just order the steak salad". I ordered the steak salad and figured I'd just pick out what I couldn't eat. We drove about 25 minutes to pick up, waited and waited when we got there, no greeting from any of the staff, get the food and take it home. I open the salad container, take a bite of salad with a piece of steak and it was fat... 95% of the steak on that salad was just fat. I called over to ask about it and was abruptly told "come back and I'll make you a new one" I refused to make the drive again. The owner then chimed in from the back.. another one with no personality. Between the owner and the girl on the phone I was told the following: -He can't talk, he's cooking tonight. I asked if he thought it was acceptable to have cooked that himself and sent that garbage out? -We don't look at the steak like that, we just cook it and send it out. Ummmm what? -Listen, I'm not trying to be rude but we're really busy. Ok and well you are rude and so is the owner and if you're too busy to put effort into take out customers food then maybe you should not accept those orders. -The owner said to give you a free steak salad next time you come in. There likely won't be a next time but in the event that I choose to do that how's he going to know it's me, you've not asked for any details. We're done here for quite a while... their staff is always rude, but the food is generally okay and the pricing is decent but at this point I'd rather give my business to someone local that actually appreciates their customers and prepares edible food... that was straight up garbage and poorly handled.

Local old school joint, can't go wrong stopping here. I would give it 10 stars if I could. Great portions, great prices, great food. If you find yourself close to here don't miss out.

Noah enjoyed his pizza and even ate bread and choc ice cream :)

Sausage bar pie. Crispy crust, good ratio of tomato to cheese. Loved it!

Excellent bar food -- steak sandwiches are second to none -- great service, and their vintage vibe has been perfectly preserved.

Name threw me off for some reason. Definitely more of a tavern than a steakhouse, but great atmosphere and menu options.

One of the best cheesesteaks in the Trenton area but the pizza is why I go there. It's a true Trenton tomato pie.

Ask the Community - Pete's Steakhouse Tavern

I met someone on a bike trail who raved about the cheese steak sandwich at a place he named as Pete's in Hamilton. Is this the place he was referring to?

Most likely.

I went to Raza's for a Friday lunch meeting, which is how many small human dramas begin. It was…read morenoon when the doors opened and inside stood one poor young man tasked with running the entire dining room by himself. This was not a metaphor. This was a fact. And yet he performed a yeoman's job, moving from table to table with the calm bravery of someone who has accepted his fate and decided to try his best to do right by strangers anyway. The room itself was lovely, still dressed up for the holidays like a house that refuses to admit the season has moved on. It was pleasant to sit there and feel briefly insulated from the outside world, which was surely still doing whatever it does to people who skip lunch. I ordered the Wild Mushroom Risotto. It was delicious, earthy and comforting, the sort of dish that suggests someone in the kitchen cares. The portion, however, was modest for the price, leaving me fed but contemplative. My companions ordered a Caesar salad with salmon and a wedge salad with chicken, and both appeared content, which is often the highest praise one can expect at midday. With tip, the bill came to about one hundred dollars for three people at lunch, which felt a bit steep for what landed on the table. There is no crime in that, but it does linger in the mind afterward. So here we are. A good meal, a kind and overworked server, a pleasant room, and food that was enjoyable but not generous. Given the abundance of good eating options nearby, it will probably be a while before I return. I do not regret going. I am simply aware that time, money, and lunches are all finite things. Which is something worth remembering anywhere you eat, including places you like.

We arrived at Old Town Pub on a weekday at that strange and tender hour between the end of work and…read morethe beginning of evening, when the sunlight looks tired but not yet ready to quit. There were eight of us, a band of aging birthday revelers, unsure whether we were still young enough to be loud or too old to be noticed. The staff didn't seem to mind either way. They smiled, rearranged some tables upstairs in a corner just for us, and let us take our time as the rest of the party wandered in, one by one, like characters from eight different novels who'd lost their place in the story. The upstairs room was empty when we arrived, echoing pleasantly with the sound of our indecision. By the time we left, it was humming with life. The bartender, whose name I did not catch but whose pour I will remember, mixed me an Apple Jack from the fall cocktail list. I had planned to explore their beer selection, which is said to be quite good, but the apple and Tito's combination called out to me like an old American folk song. It was crisp and strong and made me grateful for my liver's enduring patience. For dinner, I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was good but too greasy, even for a dish whose main promise is grease. The plate looked like an oil field after a minor accident, and the poor chips had to make do with swimming lessons they hadn't asked for. Still, the fish itself was solid and flaky, and I ate most of it while pretending not to notice the puddles. Around the table there were burgers, salads, sandwiches and tacos. Everyone ate. Everyone was fine. No one wept with joy. Our server, though, deserves an entire paragraph. He was the sort of person you wish the world had more of. He was patient, kind, and surprisingly cheerful for someone who had to answer seven variations of "What's good here?" He took special care with our friend who has celiac disease, making several trips to confirm that her meal would be safe. He handled it with both professionalism and genuine concern. It was one of those rare moments when good service feels less like customer care and more like small-scale heroism. We were politely nudged around 7:00 to make way for the trivia crowd, which seemed fair. We had been there for two and a half hours, which in restaurant time is nearly an epoch. On another night, I imagine they would have let us stay longer. We left feeling content, not dazzled, but content counts for a lot these days. Old Town Pub may not be the most extraordinary restaurant in Bordentown, but it has heart. It has history, too, tucked into its walls from the days when it was The Farnsworth House. The renovation in 2017 gave it new life without scrubbing away its past. That balance between old and new feels just right, like the moment between late afternoon and early evening. Four stars for kindness, competence, and cocktails that don't apologize for being cocktails. The fish and chips may have been greasy, but the night itself was not.

Decided on under the moon cafe and loved the atmosphere and ambiance when we first walked in. Different mix matched tables, glasses and plates. Loved the ceiling tiles and comfy looking benches. I love duck and when I read duck Mac and cheese with cherries I was lost in wonder of the combination of flavors so of course I had to order it. Surprisingly it was very enjoyable. The Mac and cheese was nicely made cheesy, noodles weren't over cooked and over all had good flavor with pieces of duck and a few cherries mixed in. I also ordered the burger which was cooked as requested medium rare and was topped with bacon and an onion ring. I upgrade to the Parmesan truffle fries.which I was slightly disappointed in. I didn't see or taste the Parmesan but there was a slight truffle flavor. The fish tacos I heard were good but not really blacked and the vodka sauce was just okay according to others at the table.

I will say, even the bathroom was decorated to instill a sense of nostalgia. We went for brunch and started with a duck mac and cheese. As you'd expect it was a bit lighter on the duck than one would like, but was ultimately well worth trying. I'd say this goes even moreso if you're a fan of duck, as that's not the mac and cheese pairing you see most often. Beyond that, I got the fish tacos. I'm typically afraid of ordering tacos out due to portion size, and while you do only get two tacos, they are rather large, and come with a side of truffle fries which were exceptional. The tacos themselves were also fantastic and filled with the flavor you'd want and expect from the dish. While we were too full to engage with a dessert, I will say our server was nothing short of delightful and we had a wonderful time. The restaurant is in a great location in downtown Bordentown and we will certainly be revisiting when we are back in the area.
