Great spot to hit up if you have a bigger group. Plenty of parking, lots of seating options and a friendly staff. Their beer list was short and mostly macro, but they had a rotating craft IPA (Fiddlehead IPA on my visit). The room we sat in was covered with retro signs on the walls and a couple of TV's with sports playing. The waitress recommended a bar pie with sausage and their cheesesteak. My son and I split both. The bar pie was sizeable, fresh and had a wonderful snappy crust. The chunked tomato sauce was good, but could have used a little more flavor, cheese was fresh and had just the right amount. The small chunks of sweet sausage were delicious. As for the cheesesteak, well the roll was fresh and the meat was alright, but the quantity of meat was disappointing. I would say it's just about average if that, but the bar pie made up for it. I'd give JoJo's the clear edge on Pete's bar pie, but honestly I liked the ambiance and older feel of the tavern at Pete's. If I lived in this area Pete's would be in the rotation of spots. I absolutely LOVE Pete's! I'm shocked that the rating is not higher, simply because it is always so full whenever we go eat there. My top 3 highlights for Pete's are: casual ambiance, pizza, and the basket of garlic wings & ribs. Our friends invited us to Pete's about two years ago and we have keep coming back ever since. It feels like the type of bar where you go and run into your neighbors or you can just sit at the bar and make a friend. The servers are very friendly and really make you feel at home when you are here. The restaurant doesn't seem so big from the outside but it is HUGE, and great for both small groups or larger ones. They have an array of random quotes and memorbilla around the walls to keep you entertained while you eat as well. As for food they have a variety of excellent bar food like wings and cheesesteaks, but also a full menu of amazing dinner food. Normally we like to get a few appetizers like the clams in red sauce (ask for bread), the basket of garlic wings with ribs and fries, and a pizza pie. Speaking of pizza, the kids pizza pie is huge and a great price (in addition they have a few other options which we love). As for drinks, the bartenders make a good drink, especially their summer sangria. And if you are a beer drinker, they also have a decent selection. I called to verify that they were making fish & chips tonight and off the bat the girl was rude answering the phone. I called back once I had the whole family's orders written down to place a takeout order and this time the girl was rather nice and very helpful. They had a steak salad on the menu as well as a pear salad, I have some food restrictions due to allergies so I asked for the pear salad with steak on it as I knew everything would be fine for me to eat but also be a substantial amount of food... I was told "no, just order the steak salad". I ordered the steak salad and figured I'd just pick out what I couldn't eat. We drove about 25 minutes to pick up, waited and waited when we got there, no greeting from any of the staff, get the food and take it home. I open the salad container, take a bite of salad with a piece of steak and it was fat... 95% of the steak on that salad was just fat. I called over to ask about it and was abruptly told "come back and I'll make you a new one" I refused to make the drive again. The owner then chimed in from the back.. another one with no personality. Between the owner and the girl on the phone I was told the following: -He can't talk, he's cooking tonight. I asked if he thought it was acceptable to have cooked that himself and sent that garbage out? -We don't look at the steak like that, we just cook it and send it out. Ummmm what? -Listen, I'm not trying to be rude but we're really busy. Ok and well you are rude and so is the owner and if you're too busy to put effort into take out customers food then maybe you should not accept those orders. -The owner said to give you a free steak salad next time you come in. There likely won't be a next time but in the event that I choose to do that how's he going to know it's me, you've not asked for any details. Always far more tavern than steakhouse, the food has become embarrassingly bad. While food quality has declined dramatically, prices have gone the opposite direction. Paying more for bad food is not something I'm really in to. Add in disinterested and inattentive service, and you've got the trifecta for the avoid list. I was so excited to try Pete's after reading all of the reviews, but what a disappointment it was. Everyone raved about the cheese steak so that is what was ordered. I was looking for the steak expecting an overloaded roll. It looked like a piece of Steak-um from the grocery store thrown on the grill and then the roll. The picture does not show the entire sandwich (wish I could post the photo) as the other half was mostly roll and no steak. It would have been sent back except the place was packed for a Tues night and trying to get our waitresses attention was challenging. We didn't even have the opportunity to tell her when the check came as she dropped it and ran. I will say she was VERY pleasant. We also ordered the chicken parm - that was good. I will likely go back as there were other items on the menu I would like to try. However, I'm still scratching my head still over the reviews about the cheese steak. Horrible female staff. Hey Rich you lost yourself a 44yr customer. I've been frequenting Rich's establishments since 1980. He was on the corner of butler and Hudson st then. All I wanted was two cheese steaks to go. I was refused service when I pointed out after the waitress acting surprised that I wanted to place a order as I was waiting by waitress station area that I wasn't even greeted upon my arrival. I was then told by same waitress that she was not going to serve me. My experience with your staff around January 21 was a horrible one. I asked for you but was told you were off for the week. I won't be coming back as long as those two pony tailed gargoyles are still in your employ. I was told I was banned lol I then left and I let them know how I felt with a choice phrase. Awesome place. From the moment I sat down to the moment I left what a great place. The food was great. I ordered a shrimp cocktail and chicken parmigiana and both were great l! Really good food at a fair price. I've been a customer at Pete's for a long time but have been going more frequently for lunch since Mill Hill Saloon in Trenton closed for extended renovations with new ownership. Even though they are in Hamilton it has that old time Trenton feeling I like - circular bar so customers can easily interact if they want. Usually I just get the Pete's special steak sandwich, like yesterday, or the Italian sausage sandwich, but next time I'm getting their Italian hotdog because they really get Trenton bar food right here. Have read a number of reviews by people that have said bartenders here pay more attention to regulars but have to tell you they don't ignore newcomers either. The staff here will let you be and if you do want to build rapport with them, they are open to it. It's a Trenton, Mercer County thing. read more

A very disappointing experience 3 couples experienced on April 13, 2024. Service: The waiter did not write any orders down, messed them up, to spilling the drinks on the table because he did not use anything to carry them over. Ended up waiting over 2 hours for our food to come out. Food: appetizers were pretty good, especially the rice balls and pig wings. Dinner bordered on disgusting and 3/6 were completely inedible. The first dinner (shrimp&scallops) came out and was cold and the fish was so over done, they were hard. About 10 minutes later 3 other dinners came out (1 eggplant and 2 steak dinners). A few bites of the eggplant was eaten, however the side dishes did not come out, 1 steak was decent and another was unedible. 1/2 steaks were cooked to order and both were loaded with grizzle/fat. 5 minutes later a burger came out which was good, however the side dish never came out (fries). About 10 minutes later the final dinner came out (chicken), shower the side dish (potatoes) did not come out. After complaining to the waiter and host (somewhat manager), the side portion of the dinners finally came out 10 minutes later. Long story short, a couple appetizers were good, service stunk, the dinners were 1/5, and the owner ended up taking 3/6 dinners and a round of drinks off the bill. Unfortunately the owner, who was obviously aware of our discontent, never stopped at our table or said a word to us. Sorry "Pete", but you lost all of our business forever and we are couple that go out regularly. read more

Last night I decided to try something different from my go to the Chicken Parm dinner which is always good. I order for pick up. I ordered the Charbroiled Pork Chop dinner which I wanted the vegetable and potato. The Chops were slightly underdone could have been charbroiled more and had very little flavor. The sides were roasted potatoes and Broccoli. I know what roasted potatoes are and these seemed to be some cut up baked potatoes thrown into the fryer. That's not roasted potatoes! The broccoli was saturated in water, no seasoning, butter or any spice what's so ever. Eating the broccoli was like biting into water, no flavor. I added a little butter and some salt but could not eat it. Both sides were cold. Side salad had some overripe mushy tomatoes. The only thing I liked was the Dark Side of the Moon cake. I've been eating cheesesteaks from Pete's since I was a little girl! My mom use to own Carmen's hair salon in "The Burg" which was literally right around the block from the original Pete's Steakhouse. We'd always order lunch or pop in for dinner and it's unfortunate they had to close along with all other businesses in the area. In my opinion, the location in Hamilton is completelyyyy different than the Trenton location and not in the best way. Food is still very good and well priced but along with other reviewers, I must agree the staff could use a bit of customer service training. EVERY SINGLE TIME I walk into Pete's I anticipate to stand at the front door for at least 5 to 10 min without being greeted or acknowledged. And to be honest, it's extremely uncomfortable to just stand there and have people walk by you without saying one word or even smile. I assume if you're a regular than the staff treats you differently however I've never been to any other restaurant where you just stand there to the point where you want to leave before even being seated. My family has even stopped coming here for that very reason along with the staff not being too friendly to them. This last visit I took my fiancé for the first time and he even wanted to leave after FOUR employees walked past us but I convinced him to stay. Once we were seated the front hostess was very nice but our server was meh... she didn't come to ask us how our food was or check on us. One of the other waitresses even came to our table and said " you've been sitting here awhile, have you been served yet?" Moving forward I will probably just order takeout. Sitting at a funky little intersection on Whitehorse Road is Pete's Steakhouse Tavern. The red neon that lines the building is visible from way down the road from any direction. New to the area, I've been by this place a dozen times getting from point A to point B, but never had the time to stop in. Always too busy, going somewhere or picking something else up. Once I finally ate there, I was kicking myself for not stopping sooner. The place is what it is - a tavern - with a large bar and a number of tables filled with families and a number of older couples. It seemed like everyone knew everyone. Beer signs, local memorabilia and the like adorn the walls. Just a nice neighborhood spot with some very good grub. We probably ordered and ate too much. The next day I was scheduled to get a tooth yanked and wanted to fill my stomach with some solid food. I started with the ribs and wing combo. The two BBQ ribs were tender and the mild wings crispy with a side of blue cheese and celery. They were especially good with a few spoonfuls of the white wine garlic butter sauce from the mussels my date ordered. She was a fan of her order. Only a few of the mussels played hard to get. Her salad came out with big slices of marinated grilled-to-order chicken. My main was a delicious steak Italiano sandwich with sautéed spinach, provolone, roasted red peppers and a thinly sliced char grilled steak on a seeded roll. Our waitress Jill warned me that the roll was doused in garlic butter and toasted. Kudos to her for looking out for me on my date! I made quick work of everything on the table but was still a little hungry. A small meatball parm was subsequently brought to my table. The sauce is great and the cheese melty. The meatballs, however fell a little short - Needed a little salt and spice. Aside from the meatballs, the rest of the meal was fantastic. Last night was the first time four of us ate there. It was an amazing experience in every way. Great service, great food and unbelievably reasonable prices! The place has an old time neighborhood bar feel, so we weren't expecting the food to be as good as it was. Everything was so fresh! My salmon was probably the best I've ever had. All of us were raving about how good our apps and main courses were. We were also suprised to see so many unique items on the menu and really had to do double takes at how low the prices were! All I can say is, disappointed. I can't see how people rave about this place. My boyfriend and I live in the area and have driven past Pete's a million times, so one day about a month ago, we decided to try it. I ordered a chicken parm sandwich, he ordered a chicken entree and wings. My sandwich was just ok, not the best I've ever had. I thought it was odd to have a sesame roll but, whatever. Our wings were supposed to be garlic Parmesan but ended up being regular buffalo. My boyfriend's entree was ok, the portion size is decent and you get a lot of food. Since we were a bit underwhelmed this time, we decided to order some of Pete's "famous steaks" and give the pizza a try. Tonight, I ordered the Large beef cheesesteak with American cheese and mayo. My boyfriend ordered a large beef cheesesteak hoagie with provolone, broccoli rabe and spinach, and we shared a bar-size white pizza. When I ordered over the phone, I emphasized that I didn't want LTO, but that my boyfriend did. However. My cheesesteak had a ton of sautéed onion on it (I hate onions and had emphasized twice over the phone that I didn't want them), my boyfriend's cheesesteak did not have the LTO -or- the broccoli rabe that he had paid extra for. And. Our white pizza was super bland, and the broccoli on top was bitter and looked like it was an afterthought. While the pizza crust was crispy, there was absolutely no flavor whatsoever. This is definitely a local place. Very good bar food. Since I was not a local, the bartender ignored me, he preferred to attend to his regulars. I had the mussels and steak sandwich with cheese. Both were very good and fair price. Im going back to try their pizza. Advise to the Bartender, you will never know, who your next regular will be. After 8 years of dining at Pete's at least twice a week with my significant other, always enjoying the food and service, especially Terri and Staci, Wednesday evening we went to dinner along with Kathy's brother Pat, we placed our order, the waitress was obviously new, she came back twice to confirm our order as she was unsure of herself, we had a round of drinks, then as we are waiting another table is seated, their food was served, we were still waiting, another table is seated, their food came out, finally the food comes out, Pat's order was wrong, the food was cold, Kathy and Pat ordered another round of drinks, she brings drinks for Kathy and me, I didn't order another drink, just leave it and bring Pat his drink, she brings the bill we were charged for 6 drinks which is what we had, she then takes the bill back and brings a bill charging Pat for 4 drinks, at this time I had enough, I brought her back the bill and told her the previous bill was right and she needed to correct it, while waiting on the bill a waiter comes over and accuses me of yelling at her, I did not yell at her, so not only was the service unacceptable but I was reprimanded for pointing it out, at this point I left to wait outside, in the mean time the bartender comes over and says to Kathy and Pat it is because of people like you the the waitress is in the bathroom crying, people like us who frequent a place multiple times a week, spending thousands of dollars over an 8 year period that always leave more than a 20% tip, the waitresses that frequently wait on us can attest to that, well mister bartender, you have made what was always a place to go for us, usually multiple times a week, now a place that we will never come back to again, sad, by the way, we came to your place on our first date and it has always been a special place for us, now it is a place to be avoided because you ruined it for us, we could have forgiven the bad service of a rookie waitress, but not an insult to a paying customer when you don't know how bad the service was Wednesday night, sorry that is not our fault, maybe a little more training is in order. I use to live in Hamilton, NJ and close to me is Pete's Steakhouse which i barely patronized. I went last night and it blew my mind. So before I write this review I realized my previous reviews were always based on food taste. However as everyone on this site knows, taste differs with the caliper of restaurant. As i love to eat at the fancier places, I also enjoy eating at your local sites. So with that in mind I give Pete's Steakhouse 4 stars based on their portions, price and staff along with descent food. As I arrived there is plenty of parking and the outside is clean. I walked inside and was brought back in time with the 70's color theme, large bar and basic tables. There were a good amount of people here for 8:30 pm and all were conversing and having fun. TV's about the bar if you are a sports fan. My girlfriend Andrea and I started off with fried mushrooms a glass of wine and a Chocolate Martini. The drinks came and were perfect. The mushrooms arrived accompanied with a cup of wiz cheese. I must admit they were fresh and dipping them gives a nice taste. The helping was more then adequate and we ended up boxing some to go. My Chicken Milanese came along with her Reuben sandwich. The portions blew my mind away and I don't think the photos do them justice. The Reuben was very tasty along with my chicken. However the chef did leave it in the fryer a bit too long with some of the edges being too crispy but this did not ruin the dinner. The melted Mozzarella Cheese and Spinach on my chicken was a nice addition to the flavoring. Along with my order came a salad and a side dish of potato wedges with broccoli. The veggies were only steamed with no seasoning and the wedges were nice and crispy with a little salt flavor. While sitting there enjoying my meal I noticed three of my sons friends sitting at the bar so I backed them up a round. Dam Im nice LOL. After everything was all said and done. We bagged half our meals, the appetizer and my salad. The total bill with 5 drinks was $52. I asked the waitress is she forgot an item and she replied "no sir". So listen for the quantity and quality of food, the price, the atmosphere and the very nice staff, Pete's Steakhouse is a solid 4 leaning upwards. There is no doubt in my mind I will return. Meh... Went there to meet my cousins as my brother was in town for Chistmas. I ordered the burger medium, it came out well done, obviously spatulaed to death as there wasnt a bit of juice left. Onion rings came out super greasy and cold on a tower. My brothers chicken and briccoli saute was drenched in romano and provalone although the menu said nothing about the cheese. My wifes chicken cheese steak was OK, and cousins open faced roast beef was good. The service was average at best, took the guy forever and food came out at different times for each of us. read more
