Food was very good. Service was a little on the slow side. Our waitress didn't seem happy at all. A smile every now and then goes a long way especially when you work on tips. Was disappointed that 2 items on the menu that we selected they were out of. Not sure how that happens? My fork was dirty too. Maybe closer to a 3.5. My fiance and I had a meeting of the families at Leonardo's earlier this week. They were in Flemington, we were in Gloucester, and Leonardo's seemed like a good place to meet in the middle. We nearly missed the entrance since their sign was shrouded in the darkness of night ... already off to an ominous start. I had made a reservation, and we were seated within a few minutes. I was wrought with nerves, too anxious to eat more than a few bites here and there throughout dinner, but everyone else made a hearty dent in their plates. Nothing I tried was particularly disappointing but neither was it noteworthy; I'd describe it as teetering on the line between acceptable and good. However, the manager checked in multiple times and was very hospitable. All in all, Leonardo's came through the way I needed it to, and dinner ended peacefully. read more

I thought Leonardo's is pretty good. It's byob so that's a plus. It gets crowded so make reservations. And it was a bit noisy. Service was great and so was the food. I had the chicken picca. I think probably one of the better ones I've had in awhile. The portions are massive. Only downfall. The Caesar salad more like dressing was absolutely horrible. It was not a Caesar dressing I'm used to. I thought it was water down and had a sour after taste. Cannoli was excellent! read more

Somehow with all our exploring of new places, we had forgotten how good Leonardo's is and how close to home, too. Glad we got reacquainted with Leonardo's last night. Melissa, our server, was outstanding. We started with an order of clams oreganato which blew us away and I'm not a huge clam fan, but these were little neck clams with a nice mixture of breadcrumbs and seasoning served in a delightful lemon based sauce with sauteed spinach; that was a nice treat as I drank up the sauce with the spinach. My wife ordered the Chicken Française and I ordered the Magdas Favorite- sauteed chicken (instead of fried) served with grilled asparagus, fresh mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, dried apricots, in a garlic vermouth wine sauce - asked for extra asparagus instead of the pasta, Both dishes were outstanding, tender, flavorful, and boy they were large portions; hence leftovers for tomorrow night. Later that evening we enjoyed their homemade Tiramisu-- moist as could be. Sorry, no pics this time--- we were hungry and engaged in good conversation with Melissa that we had forgotten to take pics before starting. Oh well. Imagine empty plates after reading this. This is a wonderful find on a busy construction zone on route 1. The outside is covered with plants. There are pots of fig trees in the front. Inside, the space is beautifully decorated. I had the chicken francaise, which came with a salad. The chicken sits on a bed of angel hair pasta. The owners are husband and wife. Both are wonderfully friendly. The wife was our waitress, and the husband was out front. I love family owned businesses, because it's like having dinner at someone's home when they take extra care and give attention to the details. read more

Do not judge a book or restaurant by its cover or the cannas covering the windows, cuz inside either one might find perfection. So it is with this place...our feelings were that it might be another almost-empty parking lot on Saturday 6 pm, recovering from C-19 front and small door with the blinking "open" sign, BUT then a sincere welcome from owner Robert (HGS) , the waitress Marta with piano keyboard earrings (who grew up near our home), and an awesome menu at this family-owned restaurant changed all those impressions. Clean tables with adequate C-19 physically distancing, immediate service with sweet tasting water for a hot day (90°) and clean restrooms. BUT WAIT... comes the food with Robert speaking Polish to wife Alice (she speaks Polish) and bringing large portions of well-presented dishes served in warmed dishes...and then the 'yummies' start! As B&B owners, and foodies who judge all tastes passing our noses and lips...the blue cheese fetticinni, the large in-bone perfectly cooked pork chop, the capered flounder with mixed veggies and gnomic, and the three large meatball with just the perfect amount of 'gravy' (sauce) on spaghetti...told us whoever was in the kitchen was a master chef of Italian food. Thank you to that person! The final judgement is the coffee...any great meal can be ruined by old burnt coffee or poor choices of coffee blends...well not here! The coffee was the perfect continuation of the meal (freshly brewed), and we left with tomorrow's dinner (we said the portions are large!) so that the memories of a great experience could also be continued. Thank you to all the staff that made this meal a perfect ending to our day trip to the Grounds for Sculpture. read more

Myself & my husband met 4 friends here for a wonderful dinner the other night. As I was pulling in to the parking lot I noticed the surrounding area looked a bit run down. Leonardo's however had the entire front of the restaurant covered in plants & flowers galore. Once inside we were promptly seated & offered 2 types of bread. Pesto & one with a red tomato sauce on it. Both were delicious & there was plenty. I opted for the special of the night, a cod dish with clams, mussels tomatoes in a white wine garlic sauce, over fettuccine. Likewise for my husband. Both dishes came out piping hot, fresh & delicious. Our entire group loved their dinners & they all came out hot. The restaurant is BYOB which we loved. A pitcher of ice water was left at the table & the waiter continually filled our glasses throughout the night. The only thing negative I would comment on was the print on the menu. It was VERY small & the place was on the dark side (although quite nice inside). For seniors like me that is a bit of a problem. I actually carry a magnifying glass with a light with me for just such an emergency but we did mention it to the owner who seemed appreciative to know it was a problem. Prices are very reasonable & we were so stuffed by the end of the night none of use had room for dessert. Everyone had plenty of leftovers to take home & we all left full & happy. Don't get out to Mercer County too often but friends who live nearby suggested this very nice Italian BYOB Restaurant. Seems to me it's a bit of an oasis in an otherwise semi-urban (definitely not suburban) area. Right before you enter there's herbs, flowers, and veggies growing by the entrance. Once inside your hit with an understated elegance and class. The address is in Lawrenceville, NJ but it's a stone's throw to Trenton and Ewing. Don't let that deter you, it's safe and worth going to. I was originally going to give it 4*s but after writing this review I came to my senses and bumped it up a star. Six of us dined on a Friday night in late summer. The cloth tablecloths and napkins complement the classiness of the food. A giant basket of homemade corn bread, I believe it was corn bread, adorned with Italian spices, big stainless steel pitchers of bottomless ice water, and wine glasses started the night. Hearing that portions were large none of us opted for an appy. My wife and I went for the broiled sea bass special. It was a large portion of broiled sea bass done medium rare with clams, shrimp, crab meat, and tomatoes in a white wine and garlic sauce over linguine. Not only was the entrée hot out of the oven, the freshness of the seafood was impressive. Too often you get frozen fish and canned crab meat. We couldn't finish our specials and gladly took the remainder home. Others at our table raved about their food too. Our server was very nice, in fact the entire staff pitched in to remove plates, fill water pitchers, etc. The owner was quite personable and visited our table inquiring about our experience. We kidded with him saying he ought to have a large print geriatric menu for us because the print was too small. Seeing how Chambersburg no longer has a lock on gourmet Italian, this is the place to try. read more

I seriously cannot believe that my fiancé and I are sitting here 20 minutes after leaving this place that our stomachs are in knots. We went here to check out the food to maybe have our rehearsal dinner here; needless to say, we will not have it here nor will we go back again. The service was horrible, one poor woman juggling up to 7 tables and her child. The bus couldn't even bus tables due to holding her phone so the baby could watch "baby shark." I'm not against the baby being there, but I tell you, it was unbelievable. APPS: The fried zucchini was soggy, the calamari was so undercooked. ENTREES: Fried gnocchi OVERcooked, and chicken spanga - the chicken tasted freezer burnt and the sauce was sour. I work in the restaurant world, I can be so understanding, but not tonight and not how this restaurant operates. Disappointed. read more

I can't say enough about this place. The food is always excellent; the service is great; and Robert is the best host! We've been going to Leonardo's for the past 10 years and always have a good dinner. In fact, our first visit was on New Year's Eve and it made a great impression on us. We were not rushed and that's something so different than many places that rush you through your meal on that evening. We love the calamari Spagna as an appetizer. The focaccia bread that comes with your meal is available with either tomato sauce or pesto. Entrees are so numerous and all so good. GF is done well! Leonardo's is one of our favorites in the area! Pros: - Appetizer of mussels in garlic wine sauce was tasty and was a large portion - Appetizer of fried calamari was pretty good, but a tad salty for my taste - complementary bread basket and salad - friendly waiters/waitress - a seafood entree with raviolis was good Cons: - sweet potato gnocchi entree (description sounded like a savory dish) was very doughy and tasted like we were eating cinnabon, shrimp was burnt - pasta with clams - we thought it was very salty - pasta with chicken piccata - we thought it was also very salty Everyone with these dishes took a few bites before sitting and waiting for the one person with a decent entree dish to finish. read more

Sooooo good! Went for the first time with three other couples last week and we were blown away! Rob and his staff were extremely pleasant and attentive. The calamari, eggplant, portabella and mussels appetizers were awesome. My chicken parm was delicious, and the other entrees looked so tasty! The zuppa de pesce platters were huge! Came here last minute and were able to be seated. Thank goodness as there were two parties happening. It was a cute restaurant and the food smelled and looked amazing and it was reasonably priced. I got a chicken dish. And it was good but the chicken was burnt and I so I couldn't escape the taste because it was in a sauce and there was way too many onions and not enough of any other vegetables. The whole point of going out to eat is to enjoy food prepared better than you could make it yourself, so I guess the people who like dining here can't cook for sh... I'm sorry, but Uncle Ben's rice with frozen vegetables in a pool of wine broth is NOT risotto. Sauteed hamburger meat with stewed tomatoes is NOT bolognese. Iceberg salads with canned olives and supermarket tomatoes, served with a canned vinaigrette (Seriously? It's olive oil, balsamic, and mustard- how hard is that?) Desserts have an icebox taste, blech. There is nothing even remotely authentic about any of the dishes here, just huge portions of mediocre food. read more

Average food. Friendly staff. Place is nice inside. Very unusual entry when you first come in. I like the two kinds of bread they serve. I would prefer less food, lower price, better quality in any restaurant I go to. I must also comment that after reading some of the reviews and the owner leaving nasty comments to customers, I will no longer come back. I've been there twice and I enjoyed the lasagna. However The second time I ordered the risotto dish and didn't like it at all. I don't think it helps your establishment to bash people with less than a 3 star review. Just let people read it and decide if the person giving the review is unreasonable. read more

Wonderful place with tasty food and great prices. They have a daily risotto special, that when veggie friendly I have adored. Pasta dishes are well priced, mostly $11 (dinner) and the portions are plentiful. Free focaccia bread is also served.. Careful if trying to find it. The address is 2021 US Route 1 in Lawrenceville ( right next to Crystal Diner) and can be confused with Brunswick Pike which puts it's location too far north on Route 1. I do wish they had a website though, which would clear this up for most folks. read more

The food at Leonardo's is pretty decent. Everything is prepared fresh, so don't let the "chain" status dissuade you from trying it. Lots of options for entrees here, although they vary a bit in quality. I had the Toscani, a shrimp dish, and the shrimp were WAY rubbery and overcooked. My wife's gnocchi were very good, though. Service is friendly and the interior is comfortable. FYI, Leonardo's oftentimes has ridiculously cheap gift certificates on www.restaurant.com (like, 60 cents for a $10 certificate). With one $10 GC, we ate well for $25 before tip. read more

My family and I went there for the first time the other night. Before, going any further...here is the biggest issue...they are very understaffed! When I entered the restaurant, the front desk was empty. I stood there for over 5 minutes, before the owner (Rob) who is acting as host as well as the 'Take-Out' runner, which is what he was doing when I arrived, came to seat my family. Once we were seated and throughout the evening, we noticed that there is only 1 waitress and 1 food runner. This means that the waitress could not give 100% to each of her customers. We found ourselves asking for more water, bread, or any thing else we needed more than once. Service is a big part of an evening out...and sadly, having such a limited staff did not help! Now the food...both my husband and brother-in-law ordered the chicken parm. My husband's chicken wasn't cooked enough and my bro-in-law's chicken was overcooked. My sister and I ordered 2 other chicken dishes. While they were not bad...they both were lacking something. We narrowed it down to flavor...maybe salt? Either way...it needed more. Lastly, and sadly...when we went to order dessert, we ordered two. Only after waiting a few minutes did the waitress come back and tell us that the dessert I ordered was no longer available. This excellent Italian establishment with multiple locations is anything but a chain-restaurant. My family liked it so much that my wife and I held our wedding rehearsal dinner there. It had been awhile since I had been to this restaurant and the meal I had was very, very tasty. I loved that our waiter felt comfortable enough to mention the dish I had over something else I was choosing. I don't remember what it was called but it had veal, artichoke hearts, cheese, capers - all my favorite yummy stuff. It's also nice that it's a BYOB. The staff are also very, very kind and greeted my Aunt with her name and a hug (she lives around the corner and goes there a lot). That goes a long way with me because my Aunt is special to me. I think the reason I did not give it my usual 4 stars that I give most places I enjoy was for 3 reasons. Number 1, the portion on my food was just huge. I know for most people they love that but for me, I like a well portioned out plate artfully plated. I don't want to bring 3/4 of my meal home and wonder how the owner makes any money with providing a plate of food that weights 5 pounds. Seriously, I took my left overs and made 2 plates of food for the following night for the hubby and I. I know most would find this awesome but I like to get my food, eat it, enjoy my night and done with it. If I wanted take out, I would order it. The second reason was that my husband did not enjoy his dish, which was pasta with sausage. He's not a fussy eater but he said it was like 3 pounds of pasta with a very watery sauce. Like me, he doesn't like huge portions. Lastly, when we walked in there was a very strong smell of amonia or bleach, which I presume came from the bathrooms. I'm funny about things like that and a smell like that could make it hard for me to enjoy my meal. Luckily the smell did not make it into the dining room but my sister in law that used the bathroom said she was light headed when she came out. My suggestion would be to make the portions a bit smaller but make sure that every thing dish is perfect and it's good to be clean but don't go overboard on the cleaning supplies and if you do, give them time to air out. All that being said, if I was in the area, I would eat there again and it does seem a very nice place for a small private party or rehearsal dinner. read more
