Just reading the menu for Cafe Seventy Two had me so excited for my first visit today. Upon entering, you can tell they truly put their heart into this place. The decor is beautiful and the staff is incredibly friendly. The menu is jam packed with so many interesting and fun items I had a hard time making a choice. I got the Breakfast Bowl with an Oreo Affogato to drink and it was truly the highlight of my weekend. Both were beautiful to look at as well as delicious! I was visiting from out of state, and decided to give Cafe Seventy Two a shot. Let me start by saying the service was excellent. My server was friendly, helpful, and prompt. The counter folks were equally friendly. That's why it was particularly disappointing when my pancakes arrived. At first glance I suspected the flat cakes had been over mixed. Gone was the expected golden-fluffy goodness you get with a well prepared pancake. Looks were not deceiving... the pancakes were rubbery, a sure sign of the kitchen over mixing the batter. Cafe Seventy Two was my family's pick for a Sunday brunch. I was new to the place but my family has been here before and totally loved this restaurant. We called ahead to make a reservation but since we showed up early, we had to wait until our table was ready. The restaurant certainly has a very friendly and cozy vibe to it. The Christmas decor was totally on point. Upon being seated by the hostess, we went on to order our food. I got their Cajun Shrimp Benedict with a side home fries and other food on the table included a short stack of Blueberries N Cream French Toast, Veggie Omelette, a full stack of Traditional Pancakes and a couple sides of bacon and sausage. Although the bacon was too salty for our taste, the sausage was well seasoned and perfectly charred. The kids thoroughly enjoyed their pancakes which were served with some Vermont Maple Syrup. I loved my Cajun Shrimp Benedict while my brother devoured his French Toast. I got a taste of it as well and felt like the French Toast would be my first choice the next time I visit this place. We felt the Veggie Omelette was a little too dry but our overall experience was truly exquisite.. I've never left a review before but I was extremely disappointed with the quality of food and up charges. I used to come a lot and had not been in a while. We ordered and about four minutes after ordering, our food came (a sandwich and bacon egg and cheese). I ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese on a croissant which they do not mention is a $3 up charge for the bread swap. It came out room temperature as if the ingredients were made earlier and just put together once we ordered. I hate sending food back but no one came over. It was not until the end of the meal that someone came over and I explained that it was all room temperature. The waitress apologized and asked if we wanted another but it was already too late. My friend didn't even take his half of a sandwich home because he said it was so bad. The ambiance is great, but the quality has gone downhill. I wish I didn't feel rushed out of there. Prices are also high for a college town. Two sandwiches and drinks for brunch was over $60. $5 for a small glass of orange juice is extremely high. Pretty bummed! read more

A great brunch spot! I came here with a party of 4 on a Saturday morning for brunch during COVID with outdoor dining. We had to wait about 15-20 min for our table which wasn't bad. There were so many good options that it was hard to choose! We ordered the tatchos, shrimp and grits, southwestern quesadilla, croissant French toast, and peach churro French toast. My favorites were the tatchos and shrimp and grits. The tatchos tasted surprisingly very fresh and not too heavy -- the guacamole really helped and it wasn't too heavy on cheese. The shrimp and grits were also very good and not something you commonly see on brunch menus in the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic. The only thing I would request is that the outdoor dining have more shade. 3/4 of us had to sit directly in the sun for 2 hours which was not pleasant. They had umbrellas to cover, but not enough and we did not want to inconvenience other tables by moving it closer to shade us. It was worth the one hour wait to eat at this adorable byo brunch spot. The decor is really nice and rustic, with actual trees and lit up branches throughout the restaurant. The service could not have been better. Our waitress was attentive and charming. Our food came out pretty quickly. Although we waited an hour to be seated, they had free coffee and lemon water for those waiting. When we were sat, we ordered the lemon ricotta donuts which were amazing. The guacamole toast was delicious too. For my meal I got the special gumbo eggs Benedict and it was very good. I tasted the pulled pork sandwich and it was very tasty. I cant wait to try this place again. My only criticisms are that the home fries needed more flavor and crisp on the outside, and the french fries seemed frozen and did not match the quality of the sandwiches.
