I arrived for lunch with a friend and was surprised the place was nearly empty, despite the limited lunchtime hours on a Thurs (11 am - 2 pm). It was 12:10 pm and we sat down. We were promptly handed menus and they poured us water. The waitress was very nice and it seemed like we were going to have a great meal.
We ordered the hot chicken sliders, the mac and cheese, french fries and the grain goddess salad. Then we sat patiently to wait, having a nice conversation with one another. After 25 mins we asked our waitress if our food was going to arrive soon. She said, it would be out right away. Like the way sun sets, we began to feel the foreshadowing on our happy lunch. Another 10 mins later, we asked what the hold up was, and then she admits that the kitchen had a burst tap and that the repairman were back there, disrupting the food service. I was surprised that this hadn't been mentioned before and I if there was actually going to be food, or if we should go. She said that it would be another 5-10 minutes. Having invested all of this time in lunch, we were torn between trying our luck at the falafel place across the street, or giving up on our meal. After 2 minutes, I asked if the food had actually been started or we would like to cancel our meal. She then told me the food was being plated and so I sat down to wait. First, she delivered the mac and cheese and the grain goddess salad. The mac and cheese was bland and I had to ask for salt to season it. The bread crumb topping was burnt and the texture was too runny. The grain goddess salad was soaked in the dressing and the dressing was very sour. No balance to the dish and it could have used additional texture like nuts, croutons or even cranberries.
10 minutes later they delivered the hot chicken sliders and french fries. The fries were cold and soggy like they had been ready for at least 10 minutes before they were served. The chicken sliders were supposed to be served on biscuits but were served on a roll without explanation. I asked the server if they weren't supposed to be biscuits and she apologized and said that there were no biscuits ready and they didn't think I wanted to wait. I decided to just try the dish anyways, and the chicken was slightly pink and the texture too soft. They had undercooked the dish slightly. While it was probably safe to eat, the entire dish was not appetizing and we ended up leaving half of the food on the table.
Rating explanation:
Poor communication about the availability of menu items, poor communication about the actual wait time for food (they repeatedly lied by saying food would be out soon when it wasn't), substitutions made without consulting me, actual seasoning and cooking of the food was poor quality and resulted in mediocre tastes. All in all, would not recommend eating here for lunch. read more
