Tried the baked pork chop over rice and hot HK milk tea here. The rice was very heavy with ginger flavor which I don't like at all but the pork was tender. The milk tea was perfect for a cold day and definitely a must have! I came back a second time with friends and we got chow fun, curry beef and peanut butter toast. The peanut butter toast was really good! The restaurant space is kind of small and most people in there are only speaking Canto so you know it's a local favorite. Descent HongKong cafe style food. The special menu seems interesting, such as beef fried rice with shrimp paste. It seems to be a popular place and there's a wait at lunch. Parking is at the back through a small alley, look for the sign with Chinese name in it, very easy to miss. We tried the baked cod with spinach spaghetti, good amount of fish and spinach, the pasta has taste and not bland, the cod is cheesy but not fishy, overall a good dish. The house special curry brisket has quite some amount of beef and the tendon ls are soft. A HK local friend commented that it has the authentic flavor. The ham and cheese sandwich order came out to be ham and egg, looks average, not very appetizing. Looking around other tables, the dishes in an iron wok shape plate look good. Maybe next time. Five stars. This place is great and might be my new favorite Hong Kong food spot. I always consider baked pork chop with tomato sauce as the bench mark (I get it everywhere!) and I have to say- this is one of the best! Even my picky father was saying it was really good and not like the places whose sauce is "from a can" haha. Didn't take any pictures because I ate it too quickly. The milk tea was really good too and special shout out to the hk french toast that my son gobbled up! (NOTE: it has peanut butter inside for all the people with allergies. This was recommended to us by a friend who grew up in the Milbrae area. My family is from Hong Kong and we generally have high expectations for Cantonese cuisine. It seems to be a family-run business with a small dining area. What we liked, we really liked. The rest was just okay (but okay does not mean bad). Our favorite was the baked oxtail fried rice. Oxtail was tender and we were happy with the portion given. Good amount of veggies and fried rice. Sauce was perfect. No criticism whatsoever. Very easy 5/5 and we'd come back just for more baked rice dishes. The shrimp egg chow fun was not the best. The sauce was too starchy-flavored and wet, which is a bad combo. The rice noodles clumped together too much. However, the eggs were scrambled beautifully and the amount of shrimp was fair. 3/5 The pork chop vermicelli noodles were fine. Nothing to rave about, but this is also a pretty average dish that doesn't tend to blow minds. Good comfort HK cafe food. 4/5 When it comes to HK-style milk tea, we can be quite harsh. I visited Cafe Orchid around 11 AM on Sunday and it was almost full; I would suggest coming around this time if you don't want to wait for a seat. There was a line when we left around 12 PM. I love the extensive menu and traditional HK dishes. The first thing I ordered was the hot Hong Kong Milk Tea. You have the option to add in condensed milk and sugar. I would start with a light option and add on if you feel like it's not sweet enough. The HK beef chow fun (F-1) ($13.75) was delicious. I love the wide rice noodles and they were very generous with the beef slices, scallions, and bean sprouts. It had just enough saltiness and umami flavor from being wok fried. My boyfriend got the cutlet pork chop spaghetti with tomato sauce (S-10) ($13.50). It could have been baked for a little bit longer, but the dish was flavorful and the sauce a little sweet (think tomato paste + vinegar + sugar). This is definitely a classic HK cafe dish. Parked right in their private lot. Got seated right away. Just like all the hk cafes, special menus are posted on the wall. We were visiting from Houston, where there isn't too much Cantonese cuisine, so expectations were fairly high coming to SF. This came as a strong recommendation from all of our family living in the Bay Area as a classic Hong Kong style cafe. We came right at opening time on Monday morning and within 30 minutes, the cafe was already filled up (mostly by Chinese elders...always a good sign!). It's fairly small on the inside, so I can see there being a wait during the lunch rush. HK Yuenyeung (hot) - a little milky for my taste, but came out piping hot - 4/5 HK Lai Cha (iced) - strong, personally preferred over the Yuenyeung even though I usually like Yuenyeung more - 5/5 Curry fish balls - the curry was seasoned wonderfully, and the fish balls were juicy. I wish they had soaked in the flavor a bit more, but it might have been because they had just opened so they hadn't been sitting in the curry for very long - 4.5/5 HK french toast w/ peanut butter - AMAZING, LOVED this. 3.2 stars. We came here for a quick morning bite based on Yelp reviews. Arrived just after 11 AM Sunday at the first few minutes of the opening hour. It was very conveniently located off the corner of El Camino Real and Milbrae. They only accept cash here and not credit cards. Cash only! There's an ATM next door at Comerica Bank if you do need to withdraw quick cash. Plenty of unlimited free street parking and parking lots on Sundays. If you feel like it, you can walk 1-2 minutes north on El Camino Real and visit Sun's Market, a very small local Chinese grocery store to buy some items before hitting the roads. The waitress quickly seated us and handed the menu. The place was almost full with customers by 11:20 AM. Honestly, the spacing was pretty crammed/small distance from each other since you are pretty close to being elbow to elbow with the other tables and can hear everything people were talking about. Depends on where you end up sitting. If there's only two people to one table, they tend to give you the 2-seats and not the 4-seats tables. The table for two was too small/tiny to put everything on it for two foodies who eat 2 main entrees, 2 drinks, a french toast, and a dessert. Anything more would feel better if you sat at a larger table. There were 2-3 waitress staff members who were taking customer orders, preparing foods/drinks, serving foods, and also handling the cash register. Yes, it's very HK/Cantonese style, but we've had better HK cafe foods elsewhere. It's not too bad here, but lots of room for improvement. Staff members were busy throughout the hour. They didn't have my hot Ovaltine drink available this morning, so I ordered A hot lemon tea with no sugar. My hot lemon tea was super boiling hot, even with the sleeves. It was boiling like the hotness you feel from drinking hot beverages in Hong Kong. 3 lemon slices were in the cup. It was not the best tea. Cold HK Coffee and Milk Tea are ok, but the aroma may not be for everyone. I ordered a ham and egg sandwich, but it only had ham inside (no butter or mayonnaise on the dry white breads). I didn't ask to do a reorder or exchange. Fries were good with the ketchup, but the portion is not as big as the ones you get at other similar cafes. We loved the peanut butter french toast since it did taste good with the butter and syrup. Regarding the instant noodles, there's a very small packet of sesame oil on the side, in case you want to make the noodles taste a bit better. We haven't had anything else yet, but our first experience is a very plain one. There's not much to like yet. Perhaps next time, we will try the tomato spaghetti dishes, baked pork chop and rice plates, or the sizzling meat plates. Maybe the hot foods with the sauces would be a much better experience. Came here on a Sunday afternoon after a long cardio session and beach volleyball session with my friends. I've been hearing about cafe orchids afternoon tea time as well as the Baked Pork Chop dish. As recommended, I order the baked pork chop over fried rice and it did not disappoint at all. I'm not sure how the sauce is made ( maybe tomatoes base sauce?). But it sure tasted delicious with the combination of pork chop and rice at the bottom. The portion is perfect for me but I would say it's on then bigger end. So you can definitely share with someone if you're not looking for a heavy meal. Ambiance: Very casual cafe setting so showing up with shorts and flip flops felt fine. Service was quick and easy. As I've always said, restaurants don't do all dishes well, but those that they have done well. Stick to it. There are 3 dishes that I've always ordered, they are others that they might have done well but I can't help but keep ordering those same one. Curry beef stew - If you like curry, the real sophisticated and flavorfully curry, similar to South East Asia, not Indian curry. Then you must try it. It's actually very similar to curry from Macao. (don't mistaken with Portuguese sauce, 葡汁. Because Portugal doesn't have that and it's not really curry, lack the spice) The famous curry on Macao such as 咖哩文has very flavorful curry. This one imo is as good. What I like about it is I stop ordering Curry beef stew rice but just do the Ala cart and pick up an all curry so I can cook rice at home and enjoy more curry. Baked cutlet pork loin over rice. This is not 焗豬扒飯 but a special called 焗脆口豬柳飯. It's deep fried cutlet without bone. And you can choose your sauce. Standard is the traditional tomatoe sauce. Very good! But they also have very good black pepper sauce. In fact, you can buy black pepper sauce by itself and use it as steak sauce. I used to don't like their milk tea, but I tried it again and it's actually not bad. They put enough condensed milk in it but not enough evaporated milk so it doesn't taste as smooth. We came here because it was one of the few places open on Christmas Day. It got really crowded pretty quickly, especially since the space inside is pretty small. I thought it seemed pretty clean. The service was pretty terrible - there seemed to only be 1-2 servers for the entire restaurant and they seemed pretty harried. The food took a while to come out and they completely forgot about our drinks and had to be reminded 1-2 times before they brought them out. However, the food itself is really good and cheap as well! I got the fried and baked pork tenderloin over rice ($9.95, one of the specials on the wall and not on the menu). It was awesome. First of all it is huge - two large tender deep fried and then baked pork cutlets over a mountain of fried rice and covered in a tomato sauce. So good. Definitely enough for two people to share. My friend got their Christmas special ($11.50), again off the specials on the wall, which was also very good but less impressive in terms of amount of food. It came with fried fish (really tender), chicken, tomato sauce, and rice. There is a relatively hidden parking lot behind the restaurant that has more spaces than there are out front. read more

They don't have all the typical dishes like baked pork chop rice or baked seafood spaghetti etc. Howevee their noodle and rice dishes come with generous portions and the service was pretty great for a Chinese restaurant. They did forget noodles with the won ton soup but were quick to correct the mistake and bring noodles in hot broth. The HK milk tea was good too. We never went prior to the remodel but the new place is very clean and new. The high chair was also clean and stylish too. We will be going back again. read more
