Smoked Hash

Nice place for breakfast or lunch. They do stay open till two in the morning as the bar is fully functioning into the evening. Breakfast is served day or night. They have a large selection of coffees to choose from. The service was OK and brought us everything that we needed. The food was also just OK. Maybe it is more of a bar place than a restaurant as it is very dark inside. Nothing special for me but it served its purpose for a place to eat.

I was impressed to say the least. The place feels like a dive bar and you wouldn't expect the food to be good, but it truly was made to impress. The place it self is slightly dark, and not too aesthetically pleasing but don't let that deter you! The place was packed and there was a wait during brunch hours, and that's how you know people frequent this spot. The service was excellent, our server was very attentive and friendly. The shrimp and grits were phenomenal. I was so impressed. Very flavorful. I would surely come back to try other food.

I was meeting up with an old friend and we decided to get brunch on a weekday so we picked Café Nola. Once we arrived we were seated within a couple minutes of arriving, and the waitress was very nice and attentive to our orders and the timing of our meal. The restaurant was very lively with other customers, and it really gave off a café feel with the decor. I ordered a French toast with an orange juice and the French toast was exceptional. It was nice and crisp went outside and fluffy on the inside and a side of bacon eggs were cooked well Also it came with like an apple jam and syrup. I liked the syrup in an apple jam brought a nice sweetness to the French toast if you didn't want to use the syrup. For a brunch spot I highly recommend this restaurant. I can't wait to go back and try more of their menu.

Cafe Nola I accidentally ended up at this spot - I intended to go somewhere else for brunch, but mixed up the locations. Since I was a solo diner, it was best to sit at the bar (plus, there were no tables available). I ordered the french toast that comes with eggs and bacon, and I also ordered a biscuit and a roasted potatoes sides. The food here is simple, but cooked well. The french toast was thick and fluffy (it came with an apple cinnamon compote that I didn't eat much of), bacon was crispy, the biscuit was buttery, the eggs weren't too runny or hard, and the potatoes were soft with crispy skin. The menu isn't super creative or innovative, but it's good fuel to start your day.

Omgggg. Loved this place! Was visiting from out of town and wanted a cute cafe! Was told it is also open late night with a band on the weekends. Would love to come back and see it. We did have to wait, for two people it was about a 20 minute wait, not too bad. the seasonal latte was amazing! Obsessed. The biscuits and gravy weren't due for! I love up north now and don't often get these. When I am back in town again I will be stopping by for sure! My new favorite brunch spot in Fredrick. also at a good price!

A hard pass for me. Stopped by with my two friends today for brunch. We all drove about 30-40 minutes to meet up and try this cafe out, and boy did it disappoint. We were greeted by a host with bangs who told us the wait would be 15 minutes and to wait in the vestibule. Okay no problem. The vestibule was cold and people filtered both in and out from the street, letting the cold windy air in. We waited and waited watching people enter the cafe. Thats when we noticed the hostess had seated 9 parties (larger than our 3) before us. At which point I walk back in to check in. The hostess looked alarmed that we are still waiting, even though we had done exactly as she instructed and waited out of the way. That is when I had asked if they took reservations, to which she replied "no". I had checked myself the day before. So she admitted to seating the SEVERAL parties before us within that statement. When we were finally seated, we were quite literally shoved in a corner by a door. My friend and I could not feel our toes by the end of our meal and catch up. (I had on Uggs) Our server was friendly and attentive. The food and coffee was good, but not good enough to EVER return. The cafe also appeared dirty and the bathroom spelled of mildew.

Cool vibe! We came late night and just had beers. The kitchen was closed but I do want to come back for dinner soon. There's a stage for music and the inside is really nice!

Side of biscuit and side of sausage gravy

As a server, you generally are able to judge your own server to a fuller extent, and usually more harshly as you can hold them to the same expectations you're held to. Sam W was a great server, and made my first time at Cafe Nola an amazing experience. I got the banana foster hot latte and side of biscuit w/ sausage gravy and they were both delicious. The hostess at the front was also really nice and welcoming.

Stopped by Nola this weekend for a quick breakfast with a friend. The space is lively and welcoming to all. We were seated faster than I anticipated for such a busy morning! I got an iced coffee with almond milk which was really refreshing and didn't feel too caffeinated/bitter. I had the French toast, eggs and sausage. The texture of the sausages was not my favorite but the dish was filling. My French toast was crispy on the edges and soft in the middle! My friend had the turkey club and said it was really protein packed, the side of fruits were fresh too. I really appreciated the inclusivity of cafe Nola, the quick but kind services and simple breakfast/lunch options.

The food was really good. They have plenty of vegan options. My complaint was the server (Kristen). She was rude.

Nola has good drinks, it's a cool space, and they do live music some evenings. Worth stopping by (but not on Tuesdays, they're closed).

Ask the Community - Cafe Nola

Do they still have open mic nights on Mondays?

Could I just get a black bean burger here aside from the black bean wrap/beyond burger?

Is their bar open weekday mornings for mimosas?

I believe it is, there was no time restriction on drunks but we prefers mimosas close to 11 am on a weekday.

Since the closing of Volt, and even The Ordinary Hen (Both being Voltaggio restaurants like this one), Frederick has been in desperate need of a upper-market restaurant. So, Enter... Wye Oak Tavern. You can't beat the interior decor and ambiance. I mean, you just can't. It's elegant, modern, and each section of the restaurant offers a different atmosphere for your choosing - darker and gothic, or, in the back, brighter and more modern. The service was fantastic, as you would expect. Everyone was so friendly and attentive, and they didn't make any fuss when I asked to change tables. The food overall was very good. - Beef Fat Fries: Very very good - The Steak Tartare was also good. I think it needed a bit more flavor - maybe more mustard or capers. - Caesar's Salad was so good, and those sesame churros were fantastic. - Oysters were good. - Ribeye steak was good. For what you're paying I expected something closer to a steakhouse quality cut and cook, but it was still good. And I liked the Yorkshire pudding. - Gnocchi, Asparagus, and Creamed Spinach were all good. - Rockfish was smaller than I thought it would be, but also good - The Prime Rib was also very good. I think it could have been helped by a little more flavorful au jus on the side. We really appreciated the Laguiole steak knives they gave us. They're not like those terrible dull bulky knives you get from even high-end steak houses. Overall a very pleasant dinner. Not sure it's worth the price tag, but there aren't a lot of options nearby for nicer restaurants - besides the Tasting Room.

We started with the red sangria pitcher, which unfortunately wasn't a standout for me. It tasted a little watered down, and I think it could have used more fruit and a stronger wine flavor. For entrees, my friend ordered the seafood tortellini, her boyfriend got a steak, and I ordered one of the specials--the Cajun pasta with chicken and shrimp. If you've read my other reviews, you know I like things spicy , so I asked for the Cajun pasta to be spicy. Unfortunately, it really wasn't. The Cajun flavor was pretty light and delicate, even after adding some red pepper flakes. That said, the shrimp were fantastic--large and beautifully cooked! My friend also let me try one of the scallops from her pasta, and the scallop was cooked nicely as well. Both pasta dishes came in generous portions, and there was plenty left over that we couldn't finish. One thing worth mentioning: they have an extensive gluten-free menu, which is a great option for anyone who needs it. Overall, a cute place to check out when you're walking around downtown Frederick. I'd come back to try something else--especially if I could get a little more spice next time!

Driving through the area late at night, we stumbled across Wag's with a craving for burgers. Though we weren't there to drink since we had a drive ahead of us, we loved watching the other patrons enjoying the bar scene. With daily specials and a great basement vibe, I can see why people love Wags. As for the food: the burger was just alright - but what can you expect when your meal is less than $10 per person? It honestly was perfect for the price point. The Wag Burger claimed to have a special sauce but we didn't taste it, which was fine because the burger was juicy, greasy, and hit the spot. The Philly cheese steak had a bit more flavor than the burger and was also a solid choice. Fries are fresh and made in-house, and I appreciated that you can salt them yourself and decide what toppings you might want to add. The menu is honestly huge for a dive bar, and all the food was solid. Shoutout to the staff here because after hearing how some drunk customers were treating them, they deserve all the tips in the world. Despite the staff being berated, dealing with intoxicated patrons threatening to run around nude, all while waiting tables with ease and kindness - you all deserve raises.
