Loved this little place! They were able to sit us within minutes of arriving (surprising for a Sunday brunch) and they were very welcoming. The food was very good, I loved the pear, Gorgonzola and balsamic panini and my boyfriend had the huevos rancheros which he said was good. It's nice having a drink with brunch on vacation and they offer just enough different options. I want to give this place 5 stars :( I am a frequent customer and absolutely love the food and atmosphere. Usually when I come I get awesome service, the waitresses are very sweet. There have been a couple of times that I have gotten a specific waitress though and my experience isn't as pleasant. I am not going to name names because that's not the person I am, but I'm sure others feel the same and know who I'm speaking of. Not very nice or attentive, does not come back to see if everything is ok or to refill coffee and must not like serving water because each time I order it never comes. Its the simple things.. Just tried Cafe Mio for the first time. We were seated immediately, and the food came quickly, even though the place was crowded. I had an omelette and my husband had a burger. Quickly becoming one of my favorite restaurants/cafes in the Hudson Valley. I have been there twice and the food was excellent both times. They have a great spinach,mushroom and goat cheese omelet. It is filled with fresh spinach and one of the best omelets I've had. The eggs are local free range, the greens are local and some of the beef is as well. Breakfast is served with a spring mix instead of the usual home fries. The greens have a delicious light vinaigrette. The toast is thick sliced but light. The service is good and the prices reasonable. I have nothing to complain about other than wishing I lived closer. read more

Although most restaurants I have been to will accommodate a customer's needs and go to the extra length to satisfy their customers requests, this restaurant would not do that for me. That's what makes a good restaurant from a bad one in my opinion. The actual lengths that eateries will go through to make sure these needs are met is largely dependent on who's preparing your dish. The chefs here couldn't care less. Even some of the service staff behave as though they are being put out, are rude and get pissed off. The simplest request is met with annoyance. I have been here a handful of times and have experienced this on a few occasions. It's astonishing how poor the customer service can be. I requested an additional food product that they did have but they would not give it to me with that particular entree. Unbelievable, I guess they don't stock enough food? Thank goodness I don't have any food allergies because I don't think would care. I was once asked to carry my own place settings to a different table. I didn't do it and was met with a nasty and rude response. LOL.. One has to laugh at this type of ignorance. Another time they refuse a take out order and I was there to pick it up! I can say more but the message is pretty clear I think. The food is good but I am getting tired of the ignorant, rude service. Wonder if the owner knows how poor the level of service can be at his/her establishment but then again isn't it the owner who sets the tone?? read more

A great new addition to Gardiner/New Paltz area. I thoroughly enjoyed the homemade corned beef hash and washed it down with a few cups of their delicious coffee. Cafe Mio offers the food/drink of a sophisticated bistro without the usual pretentiousness. The atmosphere is clean and modern and the huge windows really let the sun shine in. This place is excellent. Have been here numerous times. Constantly changing menu depending on time of year/produce available. All ingredients local. Coffee is great, portion sizes are great. I wish they were open for dinner too, but about once a month they do a Friday night with live music and dinner and it is just as exceptional as their normal breakfast/lunch fare. Hands down the best brunch spot in the Shawangunks! From having awesome wait staff and friendly cooks that prepare meals in an open kitchen, to the amazingly fresh and local produce they serve, this place is a winner. Good portions, lots of beer on tap, outdoor seating, and a calypso musician on Sundays make me go back. I've been there five times already, and trying to become a regular there because the food is that much better than other places. Owner Mike and crew never let me down. Every trip to this quaint farm fresh stop is like experiencing for the first time. The coffee is always fresh and hot and served in the perfect mugs. Although I do stray from the corn beef hash from time to time it's literally the most simplistic and best I ever had. The eggs are always fluffy and cooked perfect. The simplicity and taste of the salad greens served with nearly all breakfast items is also a welcome change at breakfast. The hogs breath wings which are actually split pork shanks prepared like no other wing you have ever indulged in and are paired with house made fries from local potatoes. We'd usually try to come work on the days our favorite server was working because she gave great service, but if not we either had a rude waitress or slow service. This charming restaurant is as good as it gets in the Mid Hudson Valley. The chef and owner, Mike, is an culinary institute graduate. He is dedicated to only using FRESH organic, nearby farm, raised produce and meat. I think he may pop over to New Jersey for his amazing bread. The dishes are unique and very delicious. His portion size is generous. The staff is friendly and quick. Last week I had an amazing combination of locally grown vegetables with stuffed squash blossoms, blueberries with a unique sauce on toasted Italian bread and an unusual assortment of local fare. This is my favorite local restaurant so I go about once a week, at least. Sadly, it's one of the few places that really serve local food. It always surprises me that more places in and around New Paltz don't support local farmers more. The menu is simple but the food is fresh and very reasonably priced. Prices are especially competitive with other regional restaurants touting "local fare". Breakfast is my favorite meal at Mio. The homemade corned beef has is incredible (ask for some hot sauce on the side, they serve sirracha), especially with eggs over easy on top. Their french toast with apples and cinnamon or other seasonal toppings is also a top choice, if you're feeling decadent. Even just a simple 2 eggs with toast and greens ($6.5) is a perfect way to start a workday. Or, you could go for the Mio breakfast which adds breakfast potatoes and bacon. They always offer yummy omelettes with fresh, seasonal veggies and meats. The coffee is great and bottomless. For lunch, I go for a local grass-fed burger or shrimp po boy over greens (love the pickled veggies on the side!). I love that every meal comes with a default side of local greens with a delicious light vinaigrette. For a less virtuous side, parmesan truffle fries are a must. So good. I noticed that a few reviews mentioned the food being bland. I disagree. Mio takes good quality, fresh ingredients that don't need a lot of seasoning. Think of it as a local foods diner. Just simple delicious food you could eat every day of the week. If you want something more bold, try a different restaurant. Lastly, I will say that friendly staff always Mio it a good experience. read more

We found this restaurant years ago on yelp when we were traveling on 87 and not wanting rest stop food. It is a bit of a hike off the thruway but worth every second it adds to our trip. We now go 2 times a year...on our way to our VT vacation, and on the way home. It never disappoints!! We have sampled so many things on the menu and each is more delicious than the last. Nice, relaxed atmosphere...friendly staff...perfect. We look forward to our visits every summer! Any chance Cafe Mio is looking to open a sister restaurant in South Jersey?! read more

We have been to Cafe Mio now about four times. I do not recommend this place to anyone. The employees are very rude and disorganized. There is no reservation and its first come first serve. People are standing everywhere waiting for a table, and two tables are now open for about 15 minutes and no one came near us to seat us. So my husband and I decided to sit down. We ordered coffee which came right away. Another employee came to us and asked us if we asked to sit, I replied no, she said then u have to get up and wait until u are called. My husband said that's it and it's our last trip. They are extremely rude and did I already say disorganized? The place is very loud for a tiny place. The food takes at least a half hour to make, the time you are waiting like 10 people are also standing and waiting right over u. There is absolutely no privacy. That was our last trip. read more

Tried this cute little place on a recent glorious Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. We were very surprised that it was still jumping at 2PM, with people even having breakfast at that hour (apparently they serve breakfast items up to closing...pretty cool idea), but we sat at the counter seeing as every table was full and there was a line waiting for an open table. My wife and I both had the seared ahi tuna wrap and a bowl of soup, both very fresh and containing some locally sourced and organic ingredients. My soup especially was quite good, and the bowl was enormous. Service was friendly, and there is just a nice local vibe going on here that makes you just want to come back. It's a little bit of a drive for us seeing as we live in Newburgh, but I can see why so many of the local Gardiner folks come here. For us, it will be a great place to stop when we are in the area and want a quick, fresh bite to eat. Nice selection of bottled beers too for lunch time. The breakfast items looked awesome (with huge portions) which we will have to try next time. read more

On a nice morning drive meandering through orange county a friend and I became hungry and found this cafe. It was highly rated so we stopped in. We noticed right away they were busy. (on a side, The outside was kitschy, but not ghastly.) Once inside we realized how small the place is. I counted 12 tables that they probably re arrange from 8 - 14 (if that) and a small into the kitchen facing bar area. We were asked to wait. We had to squeeze ourselves into the wall as there really was no appropriate waiting place. That aside, the menu specials posted on the wall-board seemed quite eclectic which both appealed, but with little recognizable fare was a bit off putting when we were craving a simple burger or steak. Regardless, the next set of customers came in, a table of 4. After we had waited 10-15 minutes, the other group maybe 5 total, they were seated and we were not even acknowledged. When we realized what had happened and spoke up we were told they had more people so they get seated first. No apology, and with a lot of bitchy attitude, We were clearly upset, and as we were leaving the woman rolled her eyes. With that type of logic, we could have been there all day waiting for a table and with that attitude I would have been displeased either way. Will not be making another visit. read more
