The food, at Cafe Marquesa, is really out of this world. I really suggest you go hungry. I wish I had a bigger appetite, because I would have loved dessert. The Key Lime Martinis are like dessert, though, so, at least, get one, or two, of those. The tuna appetizer is a must. It melts in your mouth and the flavors are wonderful, for your mouth. The Lamb entree is another must. It is just perfection. My husband liked his wahoo. It was good, but I was so taken, with the lamb, I did not have much; meaning no offense, to the wahoo. The food was delicious and beautifully crafted and the service was over-the-top phenomenal. A reservation is a must, they are very busy but the experience was fantastic. We had the steak and swordfish for entrees, the ahi tuna appetizer was perfectly seared and such great quality it looked like a jewel in the middle bright and almost translucent. We shared the dessert trio and liked it so much we returned just for coffee and dessert on another evening of our visit. We had been meaning to dine at Cafe Marquesa for many years, and this time we pulled the trigger. To be completely transparent, I met Chef Jon while playing golf in KW and we had several North Carolina connections in common. We also connected with the manager Nate and Chef Graham who had worked at a fine dining restaurant in our hometown years ago. Yes, we were given a little extra attention, but all the attention in the world is worth nothing if the food and drink are not spectacular, which they were. From the fried green tomatoes over smoked swordfish, to the oysters Rockefeller, to the mains of snapper and filet, everything was prepared to perfection. The dessert trio was just the right taste of three sweets, with the beignet being the most spectacular. Our server, Bea, who was unaware of our familiarity with the chef and manager, could not have been more spot on. We will return to Cafe Marquesa on future visits. We believe this may be the best dining option in Key West. The meals are fabulous paired with superb service. We had Scottish Salmon, Pan Seared Scallops and Crispy Pork Osso Bucco. Very disappointed in the food. The meal tasted horrible, better off going to McDonalds. The miso glazed grouper was particularly bad. However, the service was excellent. 2020 update: still amazing! Fabulous upscale atmosphere, in the top 3 of our favorite restaurants on the island! Great food & wine list. Appreciate the accommodations to a vegetarian diet but think the presentation of the amended plate could be improved. Truly fabulous! We've been coming to Key West for years and love exploring & trying new, off the beaten path restaurants and this one was a GREAT find! Walked by last night on our way to the Boathouse for a beverage. Decided to give it a shot (figured there would not be any tables available at 9pm on New Years Day) but they fit us in and we couldn't be happier they did! Delish bread & special butter to start, a complimentary (& divine) amuses bouche, then we had the tuna tartar appetizer which was awesome! So fresh and clean with 2 spicy sauces on the side should you choose to be brave....followed those with 2 fabulous main plates & a great bottle of wine! Great staff (perfectly attentive!) too! I had the vegetarian risotto which was great! Fresh & perfectly seasoned, just the right amount of food for me! My husband had the pork belly pasta that just melted in his mouth! Local here...my wife and I eat here once every three weeks and it never fails to disappoint. I believe the one-off low reviews are from those that simply can't be pleased. The menu is chef-driven. Menu continually changes are the specials are always different. This last go, we had the appetizer special which was a delectable arugula salad with blistered cherry tomatoes and a bacon vinaigrette and cornmeal dusted gulf oysters. Yum! It was a tasty salad very reminiscent of eating along the coast. My entree was the steak ordered medium and it was tender and tasty. Honestly, why order a steak if you're ordering it cooked warmer than medium? My wife ordered the duck breast and it was cooked to perfection! Dessert and cocktails are phenomenal so don't skip. If you're looking for a place to eat that's fantastic and not a tourist trap then check out Cafe Marquesa. You won't be disappointed. read more

The food here was good but the service was atrocious. The waiter did not speak English well and communication was difficult. He charged us for bottled water which we didn't order. My husband ordered a drink with his dinner which arrived with dessert. The first check the waiter brought us had a $172.00 gratuity on it. We sent it back for another one.The waiter could not process the second check we received and we're trying to pay. We had to wait about 45 minutes to pay. I understand that things can go wrong anywhere but this is an expensive restaurant which did not deliver on service. One of the better restaurants in Key West. The service is great. The best item on the menu by far was the foie gras. It was a mistake to share one. i started with my usual straight up dirty vodka martini. The only thing I didn't like was they didn't have Stoly and I was charged a $3 up charge for their serving it straight up and $1 up charge for blue cheese olives.. Long time locals and I have to say this is one of the worst fine dining experiences I've had in ten years living on the island. First off service and atmosphere were great, no complaint there. Apps were fine. Where it went of the rails were our main courses. Even by Key West standards 3 scallops for 42 dollars is absurd. Then put it on a black bean and corn base and it's just silly. To make matters worse the kitchen didn't taste the black beans that night because if they had they would have realized they were rock hard and undercooked. Hard beans? Basic stuff. My wife (whose birthday we were celebrating) got the Crispy hogfish. I have never seen a more miserly piece of fish in any fine dining restaurant ever. EVER. It was at best two ounces. 38 dollars? Ridiculous. Oh and the tiny piece had bones in it. Not sure what went wrong, but there are way better places than this in the fine dining on the island. Go to louies, Santiago's, Blue Heaven or tavern and town. They have similar prices with delicious food and portions that fairly reflect the price. read more

Nice clean space little noisy but not so bad that a table of four couldn't have a lively dinner conversation. Living in Key West I have passed the Cafe Marquesa many times and perused the menu posted at the door. The restaurant is connected to the Hotel Marquesa. There is no parking lot for the restaurant, For our anniversary we decided to dine here as the menu and yelp reviews were appealing. This was a special occasion so we were willing to splurge on the more expensive menu. Our reservation made through Open Table was for early dining, 5:00pm, when the restaurant opened. Upon arriving there were other guests seated and enjoying appetizers and cocktails. When our waiter came for our drink order we found the beer selection offered was weak. Only four common beers, no IPA's, no non-alcohol beers. Odd for a state with many craft breweries. The wine selections were much healthier - if you are a wine drinker. There is a full bar. Seating is tight. You may as well be dining with the table next to you because their conversation is sure to be heard. By the mid point of our meal the noise level was equivalent to a high school cafeteria at lunch hour. My husband and I both ordered beef. He a rib eye, and for me a filet. Both cuts were prepared to our liking but not outstanding in flavor. Over all not a 4 star dinner, especially for the higher price menu. read more
