The wife is vegan and I'm meatatarian, so choosing food can be hard. I actually got the Rasta pasta with portobello and she got the same. It has both pesto and a jerk sauce. We're both very familiar with pesto and me with jerk. The look on her face when she tasted the jerk sauce was priceless!!! . I've never seen her react like that to any food. An awesome lunch experience in Key West. Our server, Brandon, was great from getting our drink orders to helping with menu recommendations. My got blackened shrimp tacos and fish tacos which had two of each. We shared one of each. The fish tacos were big fillets of wonderful white fish. We decided to eat here because my Boy Scout Troop ate here last year while they on a trip to Sea Base and I was not able to make the trip. The boys told me how much they enjoyed eating here so I thought I would give it a try. I had the Key Lime Fish and it was great. The service from Felipe was quick and concise. The food was reasonably priced. This is a big restaurant and it was mostly empty because we were there during the week in April. The boys were right - this is a great place to eat. I promise, you don't want to miss this place. The atmosphere and employees are really fun. It's tucked just off of Duval St out of the crazy noise and people. Our server was also the bar tender. She was loads of fun. We had the fish and chips, the Hawaiian kahula pork, and the Asian/Cajun tofu. The Asian/Cajun tofu is the tastiest entree I've ever had in the Keys! Kaya Island eats seems like a great place to watch a sporting event and it doesn't hurt that they got a nice shrimp taco. The blackened shrimp paired with the pineapple salsa is a chefs kiss, they also do not skimp on the shrimp served in your taco. We look forward to trying more menu options. I was dying to have good conch fritters and thirsty after walking around all day. It was also cool inside so we stopped by. Glad we did. Our waitress was so kind and brought us a giant pitcher of water which had orange and cucumber in it. So good! My husband (who doesn't like fish) and I really enjoyed the conch fritters. This fusion restaurant is located at the heart of the hustle and bustle of Duval street. It is spacious with seven TVs to watch sports. Staff is friendly and engaging. We stopped by for dinner on a recent trip after reading some good reviews. It was a little confusing at first because we walked in on the bar side and the hostess stand was actually through that toward the back. Once back there you see the restaurant is actually pretty large. Unfortunately there was a 2 hour wait so we wound up just grabbing a spot (the last 2) at the bar instead. The bartender was quick with our drinks but the food took quite a long time to come out. We actually almost contemplated canceling one order because we had a timed event afterwards but it worked out. Liked it so much we visited twice! First visit was for lunch and fish tacos. Tried both the blackened and the fried fish tacos along with a side of french fries. Loved the fries- double fried thick crunchy batter & a lot of flavor. Fish tacos were decent. Bartender was friendly & attentive. First cocktail (mai tai) was alright, but my espresso martini was soooo delicious I had a second! 2nd visit we popped in one evening to check out the karoake room- that was a ton of fun! The MC did a great job entertaining and keeping the songs flowing, and there was a great mix of laughs & good vocals. Kaya Island Eats was part of our walking food tour, and unfortunately by the time we stopped to try their signature rice and fish dish, I was already too full to really enjoy it or try the rice. Since it was served family-style, everyone in the group shared a small portion. Based on everyone's reactions, the dish was definitely a hit. The outdoor seating arrangement made the place feel friendly and inviting. It gives off a laid-back island vibe, almost like being somewhere in the Bahamas. Given the opportunity, I would definitely come back to try more of their dishes -- and especially their desserts. We were sat outside in the back corner of the restaurant. It was cute and quiet. The service was as good as it could be given that we waited over an hour for our entrees. The server said she was doing everything she could so it's not her fault. She was visibly wiping her nose with her hand which I thought was pretty unsanitary but it was hella busy and she was the only server working the outside. The food was decent we got the bang bang chicken, coconut shrimp and tuna nachos fairly quickly. We waited over an hour for our entrees which were pretty mid considering the wait. This is a very fun location. We sat outside near the live music. Our server, William, was fantastic! I am a diabetic and have to be careful about my sugar intake. He was so kind to suggest a sugar-free Mojito that his bartender could make with a Key lime sauce. He then proceeded to give me another cup of a simple syrup that I could add to the drink just in case it was too tart. He recommended some delicious dishes and we were very happy. This place is SO COOL!!! The vibes are amazing and there's a ton of different space to eat, drink, and hang out depending on your mood. The drinks were fairly inexpensive and contained sufficient booze amounts. The tacos are AMAZING - they are stuffed with tons of delicious meats and toppings, and I was full just from eating the two of them alone. The service was very slow, but our server did discount our check as an apology for the wait times. They also acknowledged before we ordered that the kitchen was backed up, so I did appreciate the heads up beforehand. This was one of our favorite spots for happy hour while staying in the Keys. We dined at the bar both visits. The selection for happy hour was great and the food was delicious. We ordered the Poke Nachos ($9), Small Boom Shrimp ($8), and the Bang Bang fish ($8). I also ordered the Mango Beer ($3.50) which was very refreshing. I don't usually order flavored beers like this but this one was top-notch, even Nancy liked it. On our first visit, the hostess attempted to seat us in the bar area at one of the smaller booths, but wanted to put us next to a larger group with a bunch of rowdy adults and children, when we asked to be moved to a quieter booth away from these people she couldn't relocate us because all the tables were reserved, yet nobody was sitting there. So we just decided to sit at the bar to move on from the situation. What's weird about this place is there's a lot of seating but it's spread out in different sections of the building. Some areas are outside where it's not air conditioned and some areas are inside. There's other places to sit down and eat but I guess because staff was minimal, we were corralled to either the bar area where we were or the outside seating area where you enter around the opposite side of the Duval. You wouldn't even know this place exists when passing the entrance on Duval, the entrance gate is closed and you need to pull open the gate door to get inside. From there, you approach a large outdoor bar and unless there is a special event going on, it looks like this area doesn't get used because there's no staff here. The back entrance off Aronovitz Ln. (I believe) Has a more welcoming vibe, as it has outside seating and there were several small groups of customers dining there, but way too uncomfortable on a 90 degree afternoon. The bar where we sat is icky, I don't know if the bar was painted, but when I tried to pick up my coaster to relocate my beer I had to use my nails to pull it off the sticky bar and paint would get on my nails; a bit gross. I have to agree with another reviewer that the restroom is pretty nasty as well. It was this way on both visits and the restaurant was fairly slow for happy hour. I have to say that the food was awesome. Both visits everything was freshly made and beautifully presented. I would definitely comeback for the happy hour meals. Alternatively, I have concerns with the cleanliness of the restaurant and hope the kitchen is held to a higher cleaner standard. All-in-all, they are well worth the visit if you are looking for great food in the area especially during happy hour. read more

This was our first real dinner in town, and we were expecting tourist quality stuff, but no, this place had quality stuff! And pretty healthy portions. Cons: No real cons. Came here one evening during our trip to Key West. According to my food finding algorithm, this was the best overall restaurant in Key West, so it was a no brainer, we had to check it out. Right on Duval, we walked in for a pretty early dinner, around 5PM, and we got seated immediately. We had a nice server who was fine on her own at 5PM, but they really need to bring someone in as the night gets busier. By the time we were done, she was serving like a dozen and a half tables. But she did a good job. We were very well taken care of. Ambiance was nice. Island vibes, as promised. And if you go exploring further back into the restaurant, you'll find that there is a large compound full of other rooms that do other things like pool and karaoke, it was wild. Lots of fun to be had here. As for the food, we started off the evening with Those Incredible Jamaican Jerk Chicken Wings! (Goat Cheese /Jerk Sauce /Green Onion), and they were so unique and good. Wings were cooked to perfection, very crispy and juicy, and the thick sauce that was all over them was super fun. It's also a good idea to let people put as much sauce on their wings as they want, to help control the spice levels. Bravo. Next we moved onto the The Legendary Rasta Pasta (Macadamia Nut Jerk Pesto made with Hemp Oil, Jerk Seasoning, Macadamia Nuts, Garlic and Basil). A huge portion of pasta, very well coated in that subtle but delicious pesto. Couldn't really taste any hemp oil. Jerk seasoning provided a little heat, the nuts added in some good texture, and the basil added in a nice herbaciousness. It was just a lovely dish. My main event was the Hawaiian Kahula Pork (Slow Roasted in Banana Leaves with Guava Lava Sauce & Mango Pineapple Salsa). Very flavorful, tender pork, atop a massive bed of rice. Very good sweet sauce and salsa on top, not a lot of different textures, but that's ok, it was just so delicious. Dessert was some sort of coconut ice cream pie. So if you like ice cream desserts, and you love coconut, you'll love this dessert. Overall, a solid dinner. Very delicious food. I'd come back. read more

My family has been coming to Kaya since it was located down on Sugarloaf Key next to Baby's Coffee, when I was a little kid! Let me tell you - this food has always been INSANE. The portions are large, the taste is incredible, this is not only my fav restaurant in Key West but truly my fav restaurant ever. This newer location has a combo of indoor and outdoor seating, live music, karaoke, this spot is truly an experience in itself but also multiple experiences. Kinda hidden down duval street, and once you step inside and walk down, you realize just how big it is. The owner Scott is great, always catering to his guests and ensuring every meal and experience is great. They just opened up 2 more restaurants in Key West too - I need to check those out next time. Asked for the dressing on the side. I was given the dressing on the side but they withheld all the fixings from the salad as well. Basically was served minimal greens with some grilled shrimp on top the grill pineapple, toasted coconut and the green onions were missing. Once I pointed it out the bartender did bring over a plate with the missing items. Blackened Fish tacos were ordered as well. Overall it was rather tasteless. While looking for a place to eat on our first day in Key West we wandered into Kaya and had an amazing time! Laid back island vibe and great service was a nice way to start our trip.   The variety of specialty cocktails provided choices for everyone. Our server brought us a sample of their house Mai Tai before we ordered our drinks. It was delicious and 3 of us ordered the Mai Tai.  We started with their conch fritters and coconut shrimp-both good.  For main courses, we had the grilled Mahi Mahi tacos - cooked perfectly and topped with a tasty creamy corn salsa. The Baby Beach burgers were very good. The highlight of the orders was the Cuban Style Roast Pork! Delicious and full of flavor. The rice/beans/sweet plantains that accompanied the pork were equally delicious.  A great stop for good eats! read more
