The square grouper knows its way around a fish! The coconut shrimp paired with their Asian sweet chili sauce is the best in town! My wife got the chicken cutlet, which was lightly breaded with a panco pumpkin seed crumb over mashed potatoes with a lemon vinaigrette. I got their special, which was a whole yellowtail snapper fried to perfection with an asian twist. The yellowtail snapper alone deserves a Michelin star. We finished with their brownie and salted caramel ice cream which was delicious and can only be perfected by serving the brownie warmed up. The restaurant is large and has plenty of seating and would be considered fine dining of Key West. The service was quick and friendly. This meal will live rent free in my mind until I'm back!

The food was fresh and the staff was great. It takes no reservations. It has a large outdoor seating area. We had three starters: spicy calamari, shrimp cakes, and egg rolls. For dinner we had fried whole yellowtail. The starter portion was huge and was suitable for sharing. The yellowtail was fresh and tender. All starters were delicious.

Was recommended this place by a local and it didn't disappoint! One of the places you can go to in order to get reliable local seafood. Delicious table bread to share. They can prepare your fish in a variety of ways, sautéed brought out the flavor well. A upscale dinner place that was well worth it!

Wow. First night and our first stop was this bustling popular eatery not far from Old Town. The friendly hostess took our name and number and quoted a 20 minute wait around 8pm on a Friday night, ended up being about half that and were so lucky to get two reserved seats at the bar - the most comfortable barstools ever.... Michael the bartender was prompt and efficient yet never felt like he was rushing us. His cocktails were worth every calorie - ha - the spicy peach martini to start and the luscious key lime martini to finish. We were also impressed with Keely who moved nonstop making these drinks for the rest of the entire restaurant right in front of our seats. Oysters were fresh and flavorful and we got an assortment from FL, MA and WA. Our entrees were blackened grouper and Cajun Oscar tilefish. The rice and green beans were a great complement to the fish and all were cooked perfectly. Best key lime pie we've ever had topped off the meal, and the spacious dining area was larger than it seemed when we first walked in. Outdoor seating also was available.

Square Grouper in Key West was stellar! Everything! Clean, incredible service, fish so unbelievably fresh. We had both lunch and dinner thwwhile in Key West. Best fish sandwich ever with the shoestring fried onion. Then the fish entree the night we went for dinner was incredibly flavorful. You always know what you are going to get at Square Grouper. No disappointment. And be sure to go outside and pick up a tshirt before you leave.

Amazing food. Grabbed a spot at the bar or we might still be waiting! This place is popular and for good reason. The red snapper was quite tasty as well as the filet had by my better half. Saved room for the Key Lime pie because, well why not!

Martini time! Get the blue cheese, stuffed olives too

Square grouper is an absolute gem to visit while in Key West. It's off of the main tourist drag, but well worth the search to find it. So good, we came here twice on our vacation . The Raw Bar, the fresh fish , the awesome menu selections including steak and delicious salads and a killer bar scene make this spot worthy of its five stars. They don't take reservations and I believe they're closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Show up early and put your name in and bonus, cocktail waitresses will come out to you in the waiting areas and deliver you a cocktail of choice. Yaaas.... This makes waiting so much easier. But here's a tip, if you offer to sit at either the raw bar or the cocktail bar, you will either get seated immediately or very shortly thereafter. We did this and Loved watching all the action. And the servers at the bar were all so incredible , friendly and efficient. You can really see the great teamwork in this restaurant. For drinks: we tried Gin Martini's with their awesome house made blue cheese, stuffed olives, a whiskey cocktail and some great white wines from their well curated wine list. Great Beers on tap also, You can't go wrong here they've got very talented bartenders. Apps: our bartender highly recommended the FLASH FRIED CONCH and it was out of this world. The best I have ever had. Absolutely tender inside, but crispy and perfectly breaded on the outside with a delicate garlic butter sauce on top add a squeeze of lemon , wow! So good We got this both times. Smoked Fish Dip : while in the keys, you must try the various preparations of fish dip and this was a good one. Salads: their salads really shine. We shared the Caesar salad and it was lemony with just the right amount of Caesar dressing and fresh grated Parmesan. Cashew Salad : tender fresh greens with an awesome vinaigrette and toasted cashews. Yum. Mains: we tried the triple tail dinner and the tile fish special. You were given the options of about four different styles of preparation here. You can choose classic, which is grilled, you can choose blackened, fried or with a sauce. We went with classic and the tile fish came with a delicious lemony beurre Blanc sauce. We also tried the grouper dinner and it did not disappoint. They simply know how to prepare fish expertly here. As you can imagine, we had no room for dessert, but their Keylime pie did sound quite tempting. Do not miss this fun lively spot to enjoy delicious Atlantic and Gulf seafood you will not be disappointed.

This was our fourth time to Square Grouper and every single time we go it is more fabulous than the last -- Always spectacular service! Always spectacular food and drinks! I would never a visit to Key West without having a meal here.

This was my favorite restaurant in Key West. From the moment we walked in, I was impressed with the service. Every single employee we passed, both entering and leaving, greeted us or thanked us for coming. It created such a welcoming and inviting atmosphere. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain the menu and specials. She made the entire dining experience wonderful. For food, we ordered raw oysters, swordfish empanadas, togarashi seared ahi tuna, whole yellowtail, and finished with a key lime pie. The oysters were good, though I personally prefer the flavor of oysters from the Bay Area. The swordfish empanadas, however, were absolutely incredible and truly the best I have ever had. The sauce they were served with complemented them perfectly. The whole yellowtail was crisp, flavorful, and cooked beautifully. The seared ahi tuna, which I ordered well done, was delicious and had a little bit of spice to it . We ended the meal with key lime pie, which was both tasty and memorable, easily one of the best we tried during our trip. This restaurant exceeded my expectations in both food and hospitality. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Key West.

Listennnnn. If you ever make it down to the FL Keys and fail to have at least one delicious meal at Square Grouper, that's on you. I had the pleasure of visiting at least two of their locations - Islamorada & Key West. Both had impeccable service and fantastic meals. I love the artsy vibe and I know I'm going to have a great time with some of the best food, no matter how big or small my party is. I haven't had a disappointment yet.

Square Grouper is a steak and seafood house with a raw bar and upscale feel with a street mural/graffiti vibe. It differs from the traditional restaurant scene in favor of a casual flair but treats patrons like fine dining does. The food is top notch, from the menu to the daily specialties and fresh catches. We got the ahi tuna and yellowtail snapper, finishing with the key lime pie. The price was reasonable for fine dining but the food was perfectly balanced and cooked with just the right amount of seasoning. Service was top notch and attentive without being smothering. They have the visits and checks down pat and are always smiling and jovial. Square Grouper is an amazing spot just off the water, but priced alike competitors on the water with less imaginative food. Get there before 7pm to miss the wait and long lines, but it's worth the wait if you are going to experience some of the best seafood in the keys. Also: key lime pie is a MUST. That is all: 10/10

Visiting Key West I was on the hunt for the best grouper sandwich and I believe I found it. The fish was huge and absolutely perfectly cooked. The Caesar salad was a nice accompaniment and the key lime tartar sauce was divine. Our server was sweet, funny and offered great service. The restaurant was fairly new and very nice decor. I appreciated the literal bathtub filled with ice at the oyster bar. The theme is fun and irreverent but beautifully done. If you don't know what a square grouper is, you should google it. Would absolutely recommend for anyone in Key West. Oh also, two friends are not seafood eaters and both enjoyed their meals. One had a cheeseburger and said it was one of the best she's had.

Non English speaker who forgot a simple request for mayo so we could try to choke down our chicken sandwich. Food was uniquely terrible. Chicken sandwich was small for $21 and I swear it was frozen and microwaved prior to bringing out to the table. It was so dry and obviously over microwaved, but we did not say anything we just asked for mayo to try to chock it down, but the mayo never came. This is an overpriced venue that cannot even get bar food right. For the price, food quality, lackluster service, too loud music, and obstructed view, do yourself a favor and go to the Tiki Bar at the Galleon for picture perfect sunsets, followed by dinner on the marina. Spent over 2 weeks here this time and have each June for the past 20. Last year I met my Son and Daughter in law there for drinks but did not eat. Tonight is our last night here and I wanted to do something different with my girlfriend. Should have taken my own advice and stayed at the Galleon. I am in food service so tipped for food I could not each but as a KW regular I will vote with my feet and not return . Below is the sunset view from the Galleon.

From the moment we entered the restaurant to the long after time of our departure, she continuously greeted us with excitement, joined us in conversation, and even helped us capture moments in pictures. She really helped make this a memorable experience for us. Now to the food. So I have had Broils in multiple areas of the country. From Maraylamd, Texas and to the Low Country of Charlestin SC, but I have never had as tasty of Broil as I just had at the Yummy Crab in Key West Florida. I mean this place was absolutely amazing! The flavor of every piece of crab, corn, crawfish, shrimp, sasauge and potatoes in the dripping wet cajun sauce served in a bag to retain all that juice, flavor and aroma was all nearly too much to contain. So glad of all the wonderful places on the island we had to eat we chose this place. Thank you Jackie for your outstanding hospitality and service. You are amazing!

Well we're a big group we did get seating fairly fast beside them having to out tables together they weren't busy at all. Once we got seating we wait for a good 10 mins or so for menus we had to eventually grab our selves. A couple walked in few minutes after us and got their menu as they sat down Now the boil. The spice they had for the boil had a sweet taste might have been the premade seafood boil seasoning. Thats what it tasted like to me .Wasn't to my liking. Something was eh about it. The fried oysters had a but if a fishy taste no go. I know a lot of places weights the seafood but the portions when they came out it was more like they added more corn and potatoes.
