On Saturday night, I ate a shrimp quesadilla here, and by Sunday morning I was violently sick. I had nonstop vomiting and severe liquid diarrhea for hours, couldn't keep down even tiny sips of water or Pedialyte, and the cramping became so intense I could barely stand or walk without help. Things got so bad that by Sunday evening I ended up in the emergency room due to extreme dehydration. I needed IV fluids, medications, and hours of treatment. I was vomiting bile, hyperventilating, extremely weak, and dealing with muscle tingling and cramping from how dehydrated my body became. What makes me the most angry is that food poisoning is NOT something minor, especially when seafood is involved. Situations like this can become life-threatening, and restaurants should understand the seriousness and responsibility that comes with serving food safely. Nobody should go out to eat and end up in the hospital less than 24 hours later. Now I'm left dealing with recovery, stress, and expensive medical bills from an experience that should never have happened in the first place. I genuinely hope this restaurant immediately takes a serious look at its food handling and safety practices before someone else goes through something even worse. Lastly, if it were up to me, this place should be shut down until they can guarantee proper food safety standards. I will also be looking into taking legal action because nobody should have to go through something like this from simply going out to eat.

The one I had then was... not good. (I now know the dead giveaway is that it was green). What followed has become a pursuit of principle: truly a noble quest I can get behind. Fast-forward 3 days, and here's our verdict so far, with one contender still to come. Tomorrow night we're headed to Red Shoe Island Bistro for dinner at the insistence of a local who claims it blows Kermit's cheesecake out of the water: 1. Kermit's - The benchmark. Bright, tart, light, and perfectly balanced. 2. Hurricane Hole - Good, but missing the extra punch of tartness that puts Kermit's over the top. 3. El Siboney - Solid, but denser and more cheesecake-like, but also lacking the light, airy tartness of Kermit's. 4. Key Lime Pie Bakery - Forgettable in a town where memorable matters. 5. Matt's Stock Island Kitchen - Overly sweet with virtually no lime (or even lemon) presence. Our slice came boxed with whipped cream and... cherry sauce?! If you'd called it birthday cake, I'd have found that a more accurate description. Might as well call it Diabetes On a Plate. Tomorrow morning, a plan was proposed (that I seconded): we'll stop by Kermit's to grab two slices to go and stash them in the fridge, specifically to revisit after dinner at Red Shoe Bistro as a point of reference. If Red Shoe's pie ends up being too close to call, we'll have no choice but to bring a slice home and do a true, side-by-side comparison in real time. And in the interest of not ending the trip on a sour note if tomorrow night disappoints, at least we'll be leaving Key West on Friday morning with Kermit's key lime pie as our final bite.

It was 7 of us having dinner and we all left satisfied which is hard to do especially with 2 kids along. Both kids got the Mac & Cheese and they loved every bite. My mother got the lobster roll and said it was fantastic. I tried the fresh catch of the day sandwich with a side of rice and black beans. Both were phenomenal. Everyone else got burgers and fries. All 3 people said the same thing, the fries didn't taste fresh. Our server was amazing, he kept checking on us and he was the one to tell us about the guys coming back with that large fish so the kids could go check it out. Even though it was Sunday during brunch time, we were able to get a table right away. They had plenty of space and the inside was decorated very cute. The portions were huge. My fiance and I shared our meals and still had quite a bit of food left over. Their bottomless mimosas are only $7.50 with an entree! I highly recommend checking them out.
