I've been living in Key West now for four years and avoided amigos for two years because I thought it was a tourist trap given the location. I was very wrong... AMIGOS IS AMAZING!!! When I first tried it I realized their tacos are delicious authentic street style with great flavor. I love the shredded chicken and pork the best. They also have bowls, which is great if I don't want a tortilla. The guacamole is delicious. The street corn is delicious. I haven't had anything here yet that I didn't like! I've since come back to amigos four times and will continue to come back. The service is great and it's great people watching on Duval Street.! Stepped in to avoid the rain and get a couple o margs. The chips n salsa/guac were tasty especially after the margs. We also got a plate of nachos and they were piled with cheese n chicken. We were out on Duval on Halloween and thought it would be a great idea to get some food in our bellies before our (late) night out for the holiday. We had heard that this spot was really good and had a unique square taco shell so we stopped there. We were greeted by a very nice lady and there were spots on the sidewalk bar for us to sit! Every time I go to the Keys, Amigos is a must have for me, and I often go 2 or 3 times in a trip. I'm a little obsessed, but I was really disappointed by my most recent visit. It's been a hot minute since I've found myself down in the neck of the woods but I knew my first dining destination would be my seasoned fave. This place has been a Key West staple for forever, and always busy, and yet on our recent visit we were shocked to see the restaurant empty. After our meal though it's not a surprise to see why. The trademark square tortillas have always been delicate with the perfect amount of chew. This time they were square slabs of dough barely thrown on the grill. If my tacos had been wrapped in napkins instead of their tortillas I probably wouldn't have been able to tell the difference, they were that bad. Me and my friend I was with, who is also a (now former) Amigos fan, both found the tortillas in-edible and a vast departure from the tried and true tacos we had come to love. Very disappointing. The fillings were perfectly cooked however so we just ate that and left most of the shell. They also used to have a fun selection of hot sauces, but now they just have house hot sauces with your choice of red or green fire. Also Tamara was rude a.f. All around a disappointing meal. They have tables indoor and outdoor. They also have rail seating. We were sat on the rail and given the menu promptly. Our waitress was very sweet and explained everything with care. I ordered the beef bowl and a side of chips and (hot) salsa. I was so happy that the chips are made in-house and tasted so fresh, also that hot salsa is actually hot/spicy and had a great flavor. I disagree with the general 4 star review to this establishment. I think you can find better bang for your buck on the island. I was upset at the gimmick of a "square taco", as in the tortilla is a square and not a circle (because it probably costs less to make production wise). Sure it tasted authentic, but for a 6 dollar carne asada taco, I'd rather spend my money elsewhere. These are at best 3 dollar street tacos. What I did appreciate in both taste and value were the carnitas nachos. These are a hefty 23 dollars but you can at least share these with 2 people and be satisfied. Walking around Key West made us hungry and the festive looking Amigo's restaurant beckoned us to stop by for lunch. We're glad we did! I enjoyed a very filling and flavorful chicken burrito bowl. The burritos & burrito bowls are nearly infinitely customizable. You have a choice of several proteins: beef, chicken, carne asada, chorizo, fish, shrimp, or veggies. I chose shredded chicken. (Grilled chicken is also available) and black beans (refried beans are also available). The burrito bowl also includes plenty of cheese. The seasoning was excellent and I truly enjoyed my meal. My husband ordered a large cheese quesadilla, which comes with sour cream. It would have benefitted from some salsa. The quesadillas come in two sizes and are also available with most of the aforementioned proteins. So many choices! The menu has a thorough description of each of the burrito/taco/quesadilla fillings so you can know exactly what's in your food and can anticipate how it will taste. No surprises here! The casual Mexican restaurant features plenty of seats facing the street so diners can enjoy people-watching while they eat. We will definitely keep Amigos on our Key West dining list. There are some tables but the counters are where you want to be with street facing views that's great for people watching. Ok, what's 11 years between visits? The experience was just as good as I remember the last time I was here! Quick service, the food flew out of the kitchen within minutes and the drinks were ice cold. The joint still looks the same as well with their barn red building, quaint seating inside the cool air, or you can choose to sit on their outside patio if they run out of room. The square tacos are still top 2 or 3 tacos I've ever had the pleasure to chow down. Tons of flavor without any sauces, pickled onion, fresh cheese and generously filled to the brim. The square tortilla really is a beautiful idea to hold all that goodness inside and you can tell that they were probably pressed to order. Nice! Be careful, the hot sauces are HOT! Good thing our sweet server was close to bring me another hard seltzer to quench the flames! I love Amigos, and it's the perfect spot if you're looking to fill up your belly when you're on a time crunch as we were, because we only had 45 minutes left on our parking.
