This place's reputation precedes itself due to the history (I'm sure you already know that it was a Hemingway hangout) so, as you can imagine, it can be busy. We hit it on at the end of the night, for a night-cap beer, and found it to be fun with lots of potential. There wasn't a seat to be hand in the place but we were able to snag an open spot at the bar for one round (very lucky!). The bartender was very inviting and she was FAST with the beers! Each time I have come in here, the live music has been great and the drinks are delicious. The large venue with its high ceilings makes it feel open and airy. They have doors open on the sides which keeps it feeling fresh and not like you are inside. The servers are fast even when busy. The bartenders make great cocktails. They have a nice retail/merchandise store towards the back of the bar/restaurant. Definitely make this a stop during your stay in Key West. read more

Great friendly crowd and staff. Server was attentive and service was quick. We had a couple beers, a traditional Sloppy Joe, and onion rings. None were great or especially good, but they were decent. The Sloppy Joe could have used a bit more meat sauce...was more bread than anything else. Onion rings either had a bit too much batter or slightly undercooked. Worth the visit...yes. This is a big, raucous, bar with decent food, and a big stage with a musical show. It is legendary because this is where Earnest Hemingway used to drink in Key West. You can also tour his house, but the bar is virtually unchanged from his time. (Or so they say) We liked it so much we had a drink there the first night and had dinner and a drink there the second night. The service was friendly and good. The drinks were cold and the pour was more than fair. The food was just okay but certainly tasty. The atmosphere was happy and relaxed. The show was funny and topical. The four of us came here on a Monday evening because of it it's Yelp popularity and of course Hemingway used to drink there. Overall, I think it's mostly just a tourist trap. The food wasn't very good at all like the other reviews here indicate and the drinks were all right. The prices were about the running rate of all the other restaurants in the area (on the higher side). I ordered a burger and it did not come with fries nor did it come with tomato or lettuce and I had to pay extra for cheese so it was like a $15 burger for a Costco burger patty on a bun. That was extremely disappointing and the burger was mediocre at best. 6/10. The conch fritters were ok 6/10. They had a cool gift shop which was very enticing and I ended up getting a sticker and a Christmas ornament. But when I got back to our hotel, I reviewed my receipt and realized the ornament alone was $40 so I definitely had buyers remorse. Overall I honestly don't know why we even visited, we don't care for Hemingway. But on a positive note, the live band was pretty good and that was nice. read more

When in Key West, one must go to Sloppy Joes. The orange vodka creamsicle drink is the bomb! I highly recommend. The band was great , and fun. I think it's practically a law that you have to stop at Sloppy Joe's when in Key West. You don't have to get a meal, like my group did, but you at least have to get a drink! We met our friends here on a Thursday night and the place was hoppin'! The bar area was crowded and all the tables were occupied. Live music filled the place, and servers were running their butts off! I saw Conch Fritters on the menu and ordered a batch for the table. I had always wanted to try them (but I won't eat escargot? Don't ask me the logic on that one...). They were actually delicious on their own, but the dipping sauce they came with added that little something extra. You know what I mean. For my meal, I ordered the Cuban Mix sandwich. Honestly, I prefer the one I get back home. This one was a little on the dry side, and I think they use yellow mustard, not dijon...yes, it makes a difference! To drink, I had a Margarita and then a coke; both were standard. Hubs had the same sandwich as me and said the same thing, but our friends all ordered something different and said their food was good. Ours was too, don't get me wrong, but it was hard not to compare it to home. Yes, I would come back here, but I would like to sit at the bar the next time, and get that experience. Came here on a very hot afternoon for some frozen drinks. I got tried the frozen rum punch and lemonade. Both were great and very refreshing. The place it's large with plenty of seating. They had a guy playing the guitar and I have to say he was really bad. I wished they just had a playlist instead. Saturday at Sloppy Joe's bar and it was hopping! Solo music artist on the stage, playing favorites of Jimmy Buffett, and other island favorites. The sound system is amazing. Seated close to the stage, I just had to take in the ambience. This place is not touristy at all, it's more of an institution. There are great drink and beer specials I ordered a local brewery draft, along with a Sloppy Joe. My friend ordered the three chicken tacos and a tequila based drink called The Refresher Service was provided by a young man (Noah) who was very personable, and professional. Somehow he reminded me of Mikey from Orange County Choppers! Service for both the drinks and food were very quick. I liked the tank from the sloppy Joe, it was so on point. And that draft bear just went down so sweetly. My friend loved the chicken tacos and her tequila base drink. One more would've had her on her ass This isa can't miss bar if you are visiting Key West. We came here during our January 2025 Key West visit and enjoyed our time immensely! This place is a must visit when in town and there are also cameras facing the entrance that live stream! You can have friends watch you live on YouTube and you can wave as they watch. The service was fantastic at the bar - quick, friendly, and efficient. The music was lively and the band we heard was putting on one hell of a show, with a cover of "All Night Long" that got the whole audience spun up. And of course we ordered the namesake sandwich - which you have to get here. It was really good and made for a very satisfying quick bite. Huge place with tons of tables and Hemingway decor and a huge music stage that I assume is always in use. Service was good. Plenty of servers for all the tables. The food was ok. On par with fried food truck food. Cons: The food was a little lacking compared to other bars of similar stature on the island. Same with the drinks. And the singer had been doing this for a long time, obviously, as he didn't really seem to care about following how long he said he was going to be on break for. Tips: Get in, get out. Came to Key West on vacation, and pretty much every touristy thing and every story told recommended going to Sloppy Joe's Bar, so we did. It was very busy, but there are a lot of tables, so you just take a few minutes, and something clears up. Ambiance was pretty hip and happening. Key West stuff everywhere, Ernest Hemingway stuff everywhere, different sports team stuff everywhere, and the music stage right there front and center. It was a really neat looking place, for sure. Service was good. They seem to have plenty of staff. Our drinks kept coming, and the food came out promptly. No concerns there. We only got one little app, because we really were just killing time before dinner that night. It was the conch fritters, and, like all conch fritters, they were ok. Lots of crispiness, airy bread inside, whispers of conch flavor here and there. Overall, like all places in Key West, Sloppy Joe's is less of an authentic place and more of a gift shop for the stories of Key West past. We even picked up a souvenir pin on the way out. read more

Luckily, they saw us too and offered the table to us. We got situated and ordered drinks. I got a draft beer. My wife stuck with water and then we ordered food. We started with Sid's sampler platter. This came with conch fritters, plain wings, onion rings and cheese sticks. Dipping sauces came too. We mostly got this because I wanted conch fritters but my wife and daughter won't eat them. It had a good variety and it was all really tasty. I, of course, got the Sloppy Joe for my main. My wife got the quesadilla and split it with our daughter. The sloppy joe was excellent. Ground beef, flavorful with celery, onions and peppers in a sweet tomato sauce. It wasn't sloppy but it was tasty. My wife also liked her quesadilla but it was about what you would expect for that meal. Hard to mess up. We were super glad we got a table here. It was fun, lively and the food hit the spot.
