This Hemmingway's favorite bar in Key West!
    Stanley R.

This is a big, raucous, bar with decent food, and a big stage with a musical show. It is legendary because this is where Earnest Hemingway used to drink in Key West. You can also tour his house, but the bar is virtually unchanged from his time. (Or so they say) We liked it so much we had a drink there the first night and had dinner and a drink there the second night. The service was friendly and good. The drinks were cold and the pour was more than fair. The food was just okay but certainly tasty. The atmosphere was happy and relaxed. The show was funny and topical. It is a worthwhile stop when you visit Key West. We got dessert at the ice cream shop down the street.

An absolute must-stop in Key West is Sloppy Joes. To be clear, you're going because it's kitschy, the home of the original Sloppy Joe, and Ernest Hemingway's favorite bar- not because the food is good. You'll be welcomed into a fun bar atmosphere with live music and a nice indoor/outdoor vibe. Service is friendly but not quick- this place gets packed! Naturally we tried the Sloppy Joe and also some fried shrimp and chips. The Sloppy Joe is sloppy, and to be honest not that great. The sandwich doesn't come with a side but does have a few pickles. The sandwich is as described, but this Sloppy Joe probably isn't the same flavor profile of the ones of your childhood. For the price it really should have come with a side. The shrimp and chips was classic bar food, nothing to write home about but got the job done (beware: no malt vinegar). Overall, a fun stop in Key West just manage your expectations.

This was my first time at Sloppy Joe's Bar, and I loved it! It was PACKED but rightfully so. The ambiance was definitely fun and I loved there was live music. As my drink, I ordered the Key West Lemonade, I believe, and I thought it was great. Just the right amount of alcohol, and a perfect afternoon beverage. If you're in the Key West area, I would definitely recommend Sloppy Joe's for a quick drink and getting to enjoy some live music.

Great atmosphere, food okay... it's all about the experience and history. Fish and chips and beer okay, Greek Salad and Key Lime Pie, not so much.

Arguably the epitome of Key West dive bars. Very crowded, loud, and with live music. Service was a bit slow but this wasn't surprising because they were pretty busy on a Thursday afternoon. Bartenders were friendly despite being overtaxed.

The original Sloppy Joe's since 1933. Of course in addition to the Pain in the Ass and piña colada frozen drinks, we shared a sloppy joe. Everything was great. The atmosphere is exactly what you would expect from a place called Sloppy Joe's but that's exactly what gives this place its character and charm. Our waitress Tereza was awesome and made sure we never wanted for anything. We WILL be back and highly recommend you visit..

Sloppy Joe's is another iconic location in the Keys and we stopped here briefly on our meandering walk of the area. We didn't linger for long because the business was packed to the gills and we were on to the next venue. Has a definite dive bar feel which feels relaxed and welcoming. We didn't get to try the food this time.

Definitely a tourist trap bar with weak drinks. It is in a great location on Duval St. I stopped here during a cruise ship stop and we had to be back on the boat by 2pm. I'm sure this place is fun at night with all the drunk tourists.

The four of us came here on a Monday evening because of it it's Yelp popularity and of course Hemingway used to drink there. Overall, I think it's mostly just a tourist trap. The food wasn't very good at all like the other reviews here indicate and the drinks were all right. The prices were about the running rate of all the other restaurants in the area (on the higher side). I ordered a burger and it did not come with fries nor did it come with tomato or lettuce and I had to pay extra for cheese so it was like a $15 burger for a Costco burger patty on a bun. That was extremely disappointing and the burger was mediocre at best. 6/10. The conch fritters were ok 6/10. They had a cool gift shop which was very enticing and I ended up getting a sticker and a Christmas ornament. But when I got back to our hotel, I reviewed my receipt and realized the ornament alone was $40 so I definitely had buyers remorse. Overall I honestly don't know why we even visited, we don't care for Hemingway. But on a positive note, the live band was pretty good and that was nice.

It's a local bar (historical landmark in the community). You walk in and seat where you'd like and the service is friendly. They have live music for what it seems like the whole day which is cool. If your here for the food its an okay experience. Tried the conch fritters and they were soft for my liking (kind of reminds me of Japanese takoyaki), I thought they would be crispier. Fish sandwich, sloppy joes were alright Z the winner was the fish and chips. If you come mainly for drinks I think you'd have a better experience. I'd recommend hanging out for the music, vibes and alcohol!

When in Key West, one must go to Sloppy Joes. The orange vodka creamsicle drink is the bomb! I highly recommend. The band was great , and fun. I did have a sloppy Joe sandwhich and it was good ( if thats your thing) I found out the bar name was actually due to the original owner Joe ( nothing to really do with the sandwich). They fid have a decent menu of other stuff. Nice attached gift shop also. Very fun place ... iconic

I think it's practically a law that you have to stop at Sloppy Joe's when in Key West. You don't have to get a meal, like my group did, but you at least have to get a drink! We met our friends here on a Thursday night and the place was hoppin'! The bar area was crowded and all the tables were occupied. Live music filled the place, and servers were running their butts off! I saw Conch Fritters on the menu and ordered a batch for the table. I had always wanted to try them (but I won't eat escargot? Don't ask me the logic on that one...). They were actually delicious on their own, but the dipping sauce they came with added that little something extra. You know what I mean. For my meal, I ordered the Cuban Mix sandwich. Honestly, I prefer the one I get back home. This one was a little on the dry side, and I think they use yellow mustard, not dijon...yes, it makes a difference! To drink, I had a Margarita and then a coke; both were standard. Hubs had the same sandwich as me and said the same thing, but our friends all ordered something different and said their food was good. Ours was too, don't get me wrong, but it was hard not to compare it to home. Yes, I would come back here, but I would like to sit at the bar the next time, and get that experience. All in all, a good place. Definitely worth a stop for a drink! 116/2025

Sloppy Joe's is a legacy Key West bar in the heart of Duval Street and is a must stop spot if you're in Key West. We were there for a weekend and stopped in both Saturday and Sunday evening and saw band Nightbreakers and they were absolutely outstanding! All staff throughout the bar were so amazing and friendly, and with multiple service bars, there never was a long wait to get a drink and the drinks were all good pours and a great value for the money. If you're in Key West, stop into Sloppy Joe's!

While I was checking it out, the bouncer at the bar next door told me it was worth a visit, which sealed the deal. Later that evening, I convinced my friends to go with me. They were expecting a full sit-down dinner, but this is more of a counter-service spot with 6-7 bar stools inside. The setup is simple: place your order at the counter, then either grab a stool or head to the bar next door, where they'll bring your food when it's ready. We chose the bar's patio, which gave us a clear view of the restaurant. It was reassuring to see other groups having their meals delivered over too--it felt like we had discovered the right local gem. The wait was about 25-30 minutes, but that only confirmed everything was being made fresh. And let me tell you, it was absolutely worth it. Our group ordered two jerk chicken plates with plantains, mac n' cheese, and slaw; one oxtail with black beans, rice, and mac n' cheese; and one jerk burger with fries. Every single dish was a hit. The jerk chicken had that perfect smoky spice and heat from the scotch bonnet peppers, balanced with bold Caribbean flavors. The oxtail was tender and flavorful, and even the sides like mac n' cheese and plantains stood out. All in all, this was easily one of the best Caribbean meals I've had anywhere.
