The building was founded in 1871 by Cuban exiles to support the fight for Cuba's independence from Spain and also had a school on the top floor to educate Cuban children. The entrance is free and the rooms are full of photographs and historical items. It's well worth stopping in. There is also a screening room that plays a 25 minute video. The architecture and design of the building is impressive.

You've stopped by the Westin, outside Mallory Square for a cocktail. The sky overhead is painting poetry with colors you never even knew existed... A little french man, begins lugging cage after cage, box after box, pole after pole. You smile, slurp the last of the liquid in your cup and gaze out to sea. The little french man, begins concocting a trapeze and tight rope, a la Mouse Trap, the old 80's game. You order another cocktail and glance amusedly at the astro turf and four super tall stools the little french man has put together. Fast Forward an hour. You are borderline buzzed and laugh with glee at the cat show unfolding before you. The little French Man has trained a dozen or so stray cats. He urges them along with the catchphrase " 'Urry Uuup - Take Yuuur Taaaahme" and tosses tuna at them while they jump through hoops of fire and other fun tricks and acrobatics.

He keeps them in tiny cages and has them jump hurdles. Anyone who can read a cats body language can see that the twitching of the tail is stress, not pleasure. Both Husband and I ordered the special omelette, with lobster, bacon, and tomato. The dish was rich and delicious, with an entire lobster tail and plenty of bacon. To top it off, the omelette was accompanied by a slice of banana bread. We were not impressed by the key lime pie. Although the pie looks impressive, topped by a huge mound of meringue, it tasted a bit stale. Its consistency was heavy, and the meringue flavorless. Don't let the pie, however, stop you from going to Blue Heaven. The brunch is great service is friendly, and you can't beat the atmosphere, eating outdoors with the chickens and artwork. Tip: arrive early to avoid a long wait.

I wouldn't say the place was packed but there were not any open seats at the bar. I posted up the best I could but for the better part of 15 minutes both bartenders didn't even come to my side of the bar. I then moved to the other side and waited another 10 minutes to be served (at which point the bartender said "Didn't I just serve you?" Um, no, you most definitely did not. This place has two saving graces: 1) A water jug full of cold water for the taking, off in the corner. Love that. 2) A popcorn machine that had DELICIOUS popcorn! YES. If you can manage to get a beverage then I think you won't mind Green Parrot's (very) relaxed atmosphere and delightful little perks. My takeaway is for the staff to mix in some work to go along with their chatting with the regulars...
