BTW, they only serve drinks in plastic cups, like a pool bar, if that matters to you. Halo is located in an expensive upscale hotel, but this is definitely not a high end experience.

We sat at the high tops and you had to go to the bar to get your drinks. Problem is that the bar has patrons sitting as well so you are hovering over them waiting for a drink. It was very uncomfortable to impose upon others to try to get a drink. I am sure they didn't appreciate the audience as they were eating as well. The bartenders were way too busy and overwhelmed. Not only are they serving the seated patrons and the 4 small nooks, they are also making drinks for the attached restaurant. There were a gazillion tickets coming out of the printer and servers standing on the other side of the window waiting. It's just not possible to serve everyone with just two bartenders. We waited about 10 minutes for service. The drinks were underwhelming for a speakeasy. Just your typical menu. What we ordered was okay. They just missed a great opportunity to create unique twists on classics or to have craft cocktails. Even the classics (which are perfect for a speakeasy) weren't that great. For a speakeasy, the drinks are the main event. Glad we tried it as we always seek out speakeasies. Wouldn't go again.

Arriving early is a good idea because the tables and lounge chairs fill up. The good: The woman who checked us in was chipper and welcoming. Very thorough explanation (a bit tedious, though) of everything available to us. Beach access in the Keys is definitely a bonus. Not expansive stretch here, but beach is beach. Arrived in time to get 2 lounge chairs and enjoyed soaking up some sun. A dip in the heated pool was rejuvenating. Didn't order food, but the prices are very reasonable. The bad: Mold in the ice! Their ice machine has clearly been neglected. I got a margarita and 2 cups of ice for bottled water. All of it had mold present. Gross! Very foamy draft beer, which tells me the temp is probably not right. Definitely not what a draft beer should be. I've watched enough "Bar Rescue" to know these are some major issues. The drink situation was deplorable, but otherwise the surroundings were enjoyable.

Both Husband and I ordered the special omelette, with lobster, bacon, and tomato. The dish was rich and delicious, with an entire lobster tail and plenty of bacon. To top it off, the omelette was accompanied by a slice of banana bread. We were not impressed by the key lime pie. Although the pie looks impressive, topped by a huge mound of meringue, it tasted a bit stale. Its consistency was heavy, and the meringue flavorless. Don't let the pie, however, stop you from going to Blue Heaven. The brunch is great service is friendly, and you can't beat the atmosphere, eating outdoors with the chickens and artwork. Tip: arrive early to avoid a long wait.
