Rick's Bar is more like a nightlife kingdom, with several mini-bars and clubs spread throughout the venue, plus even a pizza place for when the spirits, and the guests, need nourishment. The space is half outdoors and half covered, with two levels to explore. The drinks were cheap and surprisingly strong. The rock area had a great band, although they charged far too much to play a requested song. The dance and techno club was also a lot of fun, and the music kept the entire place lively. Throughout the night, I kept asking everyone where Rick was. Each time, someone told me to quiet down. Naturally, I responded by yelling, "RICK! RICK! RICK!" in rapid succession. Rick then appeared from a puff of green smoke, looking like a combination of Macho Man Randy Savage and Grandpa from The Munsters. He asked why I had summoned him by saying his name three times. I apologized and explained that I had merely been trying to locate the owner. Rick handed me three Bacardi Lemon shots and ordered me to drink them back-to-back-to-back to cleanse the air. I obeyed, and we soon found ourselves laughing over a terrible "bad blood" joke. He then gave me a tour of his many bars, introduced me to a suspiciously pale bartender named Vlad, and led the crowd in a spirited rendition of "The Monster Mash." Rick even shared his favorite vampire joke: "Why did the vampire open a bar?" "To raise the spirits, but business was slow because everyone kept asking for a Bloody Mary." It was a fantastic night, although I did wake up the next morning with two strange dots on my neck and an intense craving for tomato juice. I'm choosing to believe it was just an aggressive mosquito and not a vampire initiation ritual. Great atmosphere, strong drinks, good music, plenty to explore, and possibly one undead proprietor. Rick's is always a stop for us when we come by to Key West. It has a variety such as a dive bar area, a live band area, a dance floor, and a karaoke bar. You can get a variety of drinks and they even have a daiquiri stand. Employees have always been great and I've never had to pay a cover charge when I went there. read more

My hubby and daughter sang karaoke on the stage here a few times in the past. Tonight we stopped in for a few drinks and listened to other people sing. The drinks are served in tiny clear plastic cups with no WOW factor. The bar is very very very basic and dark. The collection of porcelain mugs against the back wall were an odd addition but interesting. We celebrated Fantasy Fest on the ledge of the roof top bar and had a blast. It was a place to relax and listen to live music, to dance and drink, or just people watch. Regardless of the vibes you were looking for, you could find it here. I will say on a busy night it may be hard to get a drink, but overall it was pretty good service after the wait. One of the coolest parts of this bar is the ambiance of beach mixed with rock. We should have saw the red flag when walking it and seeing it was the only bar that wasn't busy on Duval street. There was a stage for live music but no one on it when we were there, unfortunately we didn't get to experience anything else besides the sticky tables, and the VERY rude bartender who happily bragged about how she's been bartending for 20 years (darling -that's not a brag‍). She proceeded to tell me that although my drivers license was not valid (bc I'm Canadian) she "trusts" me that I'm 40.... Again- you're not doing me any favours - we left because any bartender who likes to go on about her bar credentials is not my cup of tea. So many happier welcoming places on the strip! read more

Found this place walking around Duval and decided to join in for the drinks and rock music. What an amazing band they have performing. The drinks were reasonably priced and were pretty good in taste. The bartenders were quick in serving up the line of customers they were receiving. A must try bar if you enjoy new and old school rock while enjoying a drink. read more

The bar itself was a pretty typical beach bar but it had a fun vibe and cool decor includibg walls of beer steins. I wouldn't visit this place again if you paid me. It's a complete tourist trap. Overpriced alcohol and the bar waitress couldn't have been any worse. She was just plain rude to me and my guests. When we didn't order drinks right away she explained that the establishment makes money off what they serve and if we didn't choose soon, we would have to leave. Not exactly hospitable. We had one drink and left vowing NEVER to return! If you're thinking about visiting this crappy bar establishment, don't. Save yourself the trouble and agony. This was, without a doubt, one of the worst bar experiences I've ever had -- and I've been to dive bars, tourist traps, you name it. But this place in Key West? Absolutely miserable from the moment we walked in. We showed up on a Saturday night expecting at least something. The place was nearly empty -- five people max -- but the music was blasting like it was a Vegas nightclub. The vibe was just awkward and dead. The bartender couldn't have been more uninterested in helping us. She barely made eye contact, didn't say hello, and when we asked a question about the drinks, she cut us off mid-sentence and snapped, "I don't have time for this right now." Mind you, there was no one else even at the bar. But the worst part was the security guy at the front. As we were walking in, he looked at us -- a group of three friends, one of whom is openly gay -- and muttered, "Well, this should be interesting..." and then laughed. When we asked what he meant, he waved us off and said, "You boys look ready for a fashion show, not a bar." It was clear what he was getting at, and it felt gross. It was a subtle dig, but full of that casual, sneering homophobia that makes your skin crawl. None of the staff batted an eye or stepped in. It was just accepted. We stayed for one overpriced drink ($14 for a watered-down rum and coke) and left immediately after. You couldn't pay me to come back. Two words... TREE BAR!!! Yes, there is a tree out front and the bar top is a lawyered slab of wood. The best bar in Key West, With the best drink... the 007 that has fresh squeezed oranges. Perfect spot for people watching and cooling off in the FL heat! Great place to watch people stumble out of Kevin's and Sloppy Joe's.
