My hubby and daughter sang karaoke on the stage here a few times in the past. Tonight we stopped in for a few drinks and listened to other people sing. The drinks are served in tiny clear plastic cups with no WOW factor. The bar is very very very basic and dark. The collection of porcelain mugs against the back wall were an odd addition but interesting. We celebrated Fantasy Fest on the ledge of the roof top bar and had a blast. FUN KARAOKE NIGHT... At 11pm every night Ricks Bar hosts Karaoke night. A guy sets up the karaoke system with two mics and a display screen. Yes, of course I got up on stage and beautifully sang a few songs. Upstairs there is a huge bar with a balcony that overlooks Duval Street and Sloppy Joes. Great times here. read more

I love finding places on my own that are the perfect place to be on a night out without even trying. We decided to go to Rick's two nights in a row because the energy was great. It was a place to relax and listen to live music, to dance and drink, or just people watch. Regardless of the vibes you were looking for, you could find it here. I will say on a busy night it may be hard to get a drink, but overall it was pretty good service after the wait. One of the coolest parts of this bar is the ambiance of beach mixed with rock. We should have saw the red flag when walking it and seeing it was the only bar that wasn't busy on Duval street. There was a stage for live music but no one on it when we were there, unfortunately we didn't get to experience anything else besides the sticky tables, and the VERY rude bartender who happily bragged about how she's been bartending for 20 years (darling -that's not a brag‍). She proceeded to tell me that although my drivers license was not valid (bc I'm Canadian) she "trusts" me that I'm 40.... This was our first stop on a pub crawl as part of a cruise excursion so we weren't there very long. The bar itself was a pretty typical beach bar but it had a fun vibe and cool decor includibg walls of beer steins. We tried the Key West Lemonade which was pretty good at 11:00 a.m. There was a peanut machine but the peanuts were a bit stale. The bartender made up for it though. Found this place walking around Duval and decided to join in for the drinks and rock music. What an amazing band they have performing. The drinks were reasonably priced and were pretty good in taste. I wouldn't visit this place again if you paid me. It's a complete tourist trap. Overpriced alcohol and the bar waitress couldn't have been any worse. She was just plain rude to me and my guests. When we didn't order drinks right away she explained that the establishment makes money off what they serve and if we didn't choose soon, we would have to leave. Not exactly hospitable. We had one drink and left vowing NEVER to return! If you're thinking about visiting this crappy bar establishment, don't. Save yourself the trouble and agony. This was, without a doubt, one of the worst bar experiences I've ever had -- and I've been to dive bars, tourist traps, you name it. But this place in Key West? Absolutely miserable from the moment we walked in. We showed up on a Saturday night expecting at least something. The place was nearly empty -- five people max -- but the music was blasting like it was a Vegas nightclub. The vibe was just awkward and dead. The bartender couldn't have been more uninterested in helping us. She barely made eye contact, didn't say hello, and when we asked a question about the drinks, she cut us off mid-sentence and snapped, "I don't have time for this right now." Mind you, there was no one else even at the bar. But the worst part was the security guy at the front. As we were walking in, he looked at us -- a group of three friends, one of whom is openly gay -- and muttered, "Well, this should be interesting..." and then laughed. When we asked what he meant, he waved us off and said, "You boys look ready for a fashion show, not a bar." It was clear what he was getting at, and it felt gross. It was a subtle dig, but full of that casual, sneering homophobia that makes your skin crawl. None of the staff batted an eye or stepped in. It was just accepted. We stayed for one overpriced drink ($14 for a watered-down rum and coke) and left immediately after. You couldn't pay me to come back. Key West has some great, welcoming bars -- this is not one of them. Avoid it unless you like rude staff, uncomfortable vibes, and offensive comments being shrugged off like it's normal. read more

A main attraction in key west. Ricks bar is multiple bars all connected in one area. At night, the upstairs turns into a club and you can walk from bar to bar. Downstairs is a little pizza place that has some really good food! The bartenders are nice and quick with your orders! I always make sure to stop by when I'm in town. read more

Two words... TREE BAR!!! Yes, there is a tree out front and the bar top is a lawyered slab of wood. The best bar in Key West, With the best drink... the 007 that has fresh squeezed oranges. Last night I told my friends we HAVE to go to Ricks. It's so fun. Well we had the worst experience thanks to the two downstairs "bartenders". We had to go to the bar to order our own drinks , no big deal. But the two young ladies totally ignored us because they were too busy talking with friends. Both of them glanced at us so they knew we were there. Then after waiting a few more minutes, a couple walked in and sat close to where we were standing and one of the girls walked over and asked for their order. My mouth hung open and I said hey we were Here first and she replied with a disgusted face and said "don't be that person" Lol! I'm NOT that person but I will speak up for myself if need be. Then she went to the other big girl with dark hair and whispered in her ear and they both looked at us and the bigger girl came to take our order with ice in her demeanor. Listen the place was not busy at all! I would understand if it were. Then we got our drinks without even a thank you kiss my a$$ or anything. Sipped my vodka and soda and there was no vodka on it. Took it back and they charged me $10 to put vodka in it. These two girls should be fired. If you don't like working with the public then this job is not for you. Buh bye! We went to Rick's Downstairs one night because my idiot friend wanted to do live karaoke in front of strangers (we left after a pair of girls stunk up the stage). You can also go to Durty Harry's for live music (and listen to the house band The Durtbags play appropriate hits like Wheatus' Teenage Dirtbag). There's also Rick's Upstairs for more of a clubby feel. The Crow's Nest which is just a tiny hole-in-the-wall for going to the bathroom, watching sports, or really just buying a drink so you can stand out on the balcony and watch live music from Durty Harry's... but upstairs. There's also the Red Garter Saloon strip club, which was terrible - no dancers, and the bartenders just ignore you. Even if none of those things interest you, you should go just to say you went. read more
