Rick's is not just one bar. It's 8 different bars in the same general structure. But they only have one consolidated Yelp listing, which makes me sad because I'm trying to inflate my numbers here. We went to Rick's Downstairs one night because my idiot friend wanted to do live karaoke in front of strangers (we left after a pair of girls stunk up the stage). You can also go to Durty Harry's for live music (and listen to the house band The Durtbags play appropriate hits like Wheatus' Teenage Dirtbag). There's also Rick's Upstairs for more of a clubby feel. The Crow's Nest which is just a tiny hole-in-the-wall for going to the bathroom, watching sports, or really just buying a drink so you can stand out on the balcony and watch live music from Durty Harry's... but upstairs. There's also the Red Garter Saloon strip club, which was terrible - no dancers, and the bartenders just ignore you. Last night my brother got Married and the wedding party wanted a place to celebrate after the ceremony. The plan was to start at Rick's Bar. As we were entering the bar, a random person shoves behind me and says "coming through." Mind you there was a crowd of people trying to get in and there was no where to move. The guy says it again and proceeds to be more aggressive shoving his way through. I turned to the man and said"we are trying to move, however, please don't touch me." The guy erupts and yells "Out. Get the fuck out." I said "excuse me?" To which he said "You have an attitude and I'm not dealing with it today." At this point I have no clue what he is talking about as he waves to some body guard out side to come over. Despite this mans aggression towards me, I tried to deescalate the situation and told him that my brother was bringing his wedding party here and this doesn't need to be an issue. The man continues to yell profanities at me and make a scene. Turns out the guy works there. When you enter an establishment, you have the right to not be touched without consent especially by its staff. Had this not been my brothers celebration I would have willingly had the cops come, as the man threatened, and let them deal with his belligerent behavior. He would quickly realize that him working there doesn't give him the right to touch another person. In short, the wedding party showed up and all 30 of us took our business to SLOPPY JOES across the street. This guy deserves to fired. read more

My first Super Bowl in Key West. Rick's had a ticket-only party that was fabulous. For $40 you got free unlimited top shelf 'mixed or frozen drinks and all you could eat BBQ along with a seat for the big game. While every other bar had 1st come 1st serve this was super convenient. Food included Cuban pork, hot dogs and hamburgers, pizza and a variety of sides. More TV's then you could possibly watch and the staff was amazing. If you are in Key West check out the bar and if you sew in town for Super Bowl weekend this needs to be your go to watch spot. read more

This place is an institution. Had a great time when I came here 5 years ago, and a great time this past week. Here to give some special kudos to management. We were here with a medium sized group having a great time after a week long work trip. One of the members accidentally (ahem...drunkenly) misplaced their bag. The one security guy we dealt with was being a royal jerk, however when a young African American woman (assuming management) got involved, we diffused the situation and she went out of her way helping us...including spending 10 mins going through camera footage to see at which point our crew member was seen with/without the bag. Wandering around Duval street, we stumbled upon this little bar with live music. After being out in the sun, it was time to do a little day drinking. Because we are in Key West, we decided, "Why not, lets get the frozen pina coladas!". The drinks were good. The live music for the day was ok. The bar itself is a smoking bar, so cigarette smoke is very heavy. We chose to sit at the only table that was outside to be away from the smoke. It was a nice break to have a quick drink. If you want to take a break from the live bands that line Duval Street at every bar - definitely make a stop at Rick's. This place is huge, but this review is specifically for the rooftop area where they DJ plays. SO.MUCH.FUN. that we went back both nights on our short trip! From hip hop, to reggeaton, to throwback jams - the DJ was playing all sorts of great songs to keep the party going. After a long day of bar hopping, it was the perfect spot to dance off some of those daytime drinks for sure. The upstairs terrace is huge - there are multiple outdoor bars. In fact, I think Ricks boasts something like 8 bars / venues total within this space. Definitely something for everyone here. On the second night, we did make our way downstairs where they had live music. Overall - really fun place to let your hair down and dance! read more

Durty Harry's has been our favorite key west night spot since we started going there in 2000. The Durtbags, who usually always play there live in Fridays and Saturdays at night are phenomenal. Some of the band members have changed through the years but they can do everything from Metallica to Outkast to Rage Against The Machine...with a little "Dancing On The Ceiling" mixed in for tourist fun. I don't even care if sometimes I have to wait for my beer or there's a line in the too small bathroom or that it's right on Duval in a super touristy mini complex. Not sure what to make of this place. First off you walk up a set of stairs expecting to see a small bar and maybe a balcony and it opens up into this gigantic sprawling campus of like 5 different bars and a huge dance floor. The place is massive and looks like it could get pretty crowded maybe at Spring Break or New Years. Unfortunately, this place during mid February was so dead, we were the only ones there at midnight on a Wed, and not sure why I was being frisked to get into the place when no one else was there. The place actually leads back down to Durty Harry's which is down the back stairs, but as for this place, it probably could be good...DJ seemed ok, dance floor and smoke machine was on, unfortunately I just didnt see the point of this place in the middle of Live music bars with dance floors. read more

People love flocking to Key West for the weather, the beaches, the water, the food, and the bars. With at least 20 bars within a two block radius, between Caroline and Front St (three if you count Charles St), one of the go-tos on your stay should be Durty Harry's. Located in the epicenter of Key West nightlife -- in the same area as Rick's Bar, Irish Kevin's, and the infamous Sloppy Joe's -- Durty Harry's is a place you are guaranteed to have fun and enjoy the local vibe. A bunch of my friends and I loved this place so much that we went there on both Friday and Saturday nights during our stay. They're one of the best places to see live music while knock back one drink or another on any given day. The DurtBags are the regular bar band there, and they were killing it when we last went to Key West. You can also watch their shows from a balcony overlooking the stage being that it shares space with Rick's Tree Bar. Durty Harry's is, simply put, a cool fucking place to hang out with locals and travelers and enjoy some good times. read more

This bar was our go to for the night out. The vibe totally fit us. They have two different areas. The downstairs houses their live music. This was our absolute favorite part. The live band was playing hits from our high school days which was awesome. There was some All-American Rejects, Fall Out Boy, and others. They played classic rock which the lead singer really nailed. Also, they did some covers of current hits. We sang along while my husband watched the basketball game at the bar. There was some dancing closer to the stage, but we didn't want to lose our seats. Upstairs is the DJ/Club area. They have a huge dance floor and music from today. While, it was fun, we preferred the live music downstairs, also known as Durty Harry's. It definitely got really crowded, so if you want a spot to sit, I'd recommend getting there early. There is someone checking ids, but no cover. The drinks were of course over priced and not great, but that's just typical of places like this. The vibe is what we really liked. Super nice people and some really hard working bartenders tending to a huge crowd. There was a delicious pizza place right outside the bar though. They are opened super late, so we were able to grab a slice on our way back to the hotel. read more
