I was so excited to stop by for Martini Monday! We have been coming down to Key West for years and this was our first time coming in. It was busy- but we snagged a table on the side. A server stopped by quickly for our order. Lots of options but I decided to stick with a classic dirty martini with blue cheese olives. My drink was good. I was going to try another one but our server didn't stop by again. We also noticed other tables being offered a food menu but we were not. I was disappointed but understood that the restaurant was busy and maybe we were just overlooked. One other thing to mention- smoking is ok. The key lime martini was nicely served in a proper martini glass and then the have a small pour in a baby craft on time of ice. Now.. the martini gets warm quickly only because of how hot the weather is outside. The staff is very attentive and great service. They also offer food but only to a certain time. We were able to order a couple of apps- bruschetta and meat and cheese board. The wine selection is better than decent but they need to properly store them! Hot wine on hot nights is not enjoyable. A cool martini bar at the back. It's closed in, but had openings in the roof, so decent ventilation. They have a live band that comes in at night, but it's a pretty small area, so it might be a bit too close for comfort for us. The bartender was really friendly, mentioning the martinis were their specialty. He gave us a bar menu, showing beer/wine prices, except for the pricey martinis, until the bill comes of course ($15 each). I don't like that kind of trickery, so shame-shame to the owner. I have to give Virgilio's 5 stars for the simple fact that its my husband and I's favorite martini bar in Key West, and we come here every week! We've probably had almost every martini on the menu, and each one is so delicious. My favorite is the espresso martini, and the Lucifer's Sister because I love Frangelico. My husband's favorite is also the espresso, and the mocha tini which has chocolate and espresso. There's also a mint-chocolate martini he loves, and I love the key lime pie martini. There's literally a martini for everyone here, so just go and try it! Each martini is really like getting 2, because you also receive a side-carafe which is enough to fill a second glass. There's live music almost every night, really great bands play here. There's also the full Italian menu from the Trattoria restaurant attached, so you can order food without the fancy atmosphere. I love the "half" sized portions of pasta if I want to save more room for alcohol :) Everything is delicious, and the options are endless. Also, shout out to the bartenders who are seriously the best; Dillon and Alex who recommend great options to customize the drinks or switch up the vodkas. Every year when we come to Key West we always make reservations at Virgilios. The food is always excellent as is the service.

Poor service - Once great going downhill Add this to another place going downhill on Duval Street. We have been eating here for the past 12 years and it used to be wonderful. We have come to Key West at least twice a year for the past 25 years. This past trip to this restaurant left a particularly bad taste in my mouth. Typically, I do not leave bad reviews I would simply not say anything. However. We decided to stop in and sit at the bar to get a salad and an antipasto and have a few cocktails. We sat and ordered food and drinks. There is a bartender there whose name is Carrie. From the moment we sat down all she did was talk loudly nonstop to the patrons at the bar, complaining about tourists ruining the island. How horrible fantasy fest is, how bad boat week is, the type of people that come to town. There were probably one or two locals there, but the rest were. Well, tourists and there for next week's fantasy fest. We watched several people roll their eyes and leave after one drink. So fine, some people have a bad day and are characters, well that's cool, no big deal right? Here's where it gets weird. We sat, we ate, we didn't engage her in any conversation, the food was alright. It was obvious she resented any little request we asked, such as , can we have some bread please? or, can we have another drink? I go to pay with my credit card, she comes back, and I ask her for change of a 50 so I can leave a cash tip. She states it's our policy not to break large bills. I said, but I would rather leave a cash tip, and is 50 really a big bill? Don't people come in and buy drinks with cash, how can you not give me change so I can leave you some money, it makes no sense? She says and I quote, although I won't write profanity here. "I don't need you F..in money." Well ok then I said, I guess your not getting a tip from me. Mind you I could easily have left one on the credit card but after that attitude, no way. The it gets even more bizarre; she says that's why people hate you. Now I have never met this person before in my life, she doesn't know who I am or what I do, where I'm from etc. etc. What ??? This happened last week, still trying to get a hold of the owner, but honestly, I've wasted enough time just typing this, I left a voice mail at both locations on Duval and Roosevelt. So with that we will never recommend this restaurant ever again or spend another nickel there. Pretty soon they will join the rest of the empty store fronts on Duval in a once wonderful town that, as someone going there for more than 25 years can see, is struggling. Key West doesn't need someone like that and she should return to whatever town she came from, she certainly does not represent the Key West that has kept us coming back for 25+ years. read more

There was live music and we definitely had key lime martinis, and some kind of chocolatey ones but things got a little fuzzy after that! Martini Monday's are can't miss. We were sent here by a server in another restaurant. It was a great find. The martini was $7 and delicious. We sat at the bar. She was super busy but she was on top of things and I loved to watch the manger jump in to help. We sat with some locals and really enjoyed getting to know them. The convinced us to try the Truman White House the next day and we really enjoyed that experience. The place is off the alley. A couple other reviewers hit the nail on the head with this place, and that's actually the reason my friend and I ended up checking it out. We're from DC, and the Duvall Street shenanigans just wasn't our cup of tea (I know, I know - so how did we end up in KW?) So we actually dressed up that night (well, not DC dressed up, but dressy for KW) and were looking for a chill place to have some drinks on a Wednesday evening. Although the reviews sounded good, we were still a little hesitant. When we arrived at about 10pm and looked in the window for La Trattoria, we thought - it looks dead, maybe we should cut our losses and leave. But then we saw the sign that the bar/lounge was in the back and decided to pop our heads in. And what a difference the back was! Very cute place, dimly lit, exposed sky in the back bar, yes a tree growing in the middle, and Audrey Hepburn making her mark on the wall. Only negative is the smoking. We got there right as the live music was starting and were told it was blues/rock. Once again, we were hesitant, but stayed...didn't want to waste the makeup, LOL! But the drinks were on point - had both martinis and champagne, and the music was pretty good (one lady singing, a drummer, and a guitarist) doing covers like Macy Gray, Alicia Keys and some 80s stuff I had heard before but don't know the band names. Overall, this was a great find for two single ladies who enjoy the lounge scene. We were told there would be salsa the next night (Thurs) and intended to come back, but had a little too much fun on the Fury Rum & Reggae cruise *wink*! read more

This is hands down the best bar we visited in key west. The atmosphere had a tucked away jazzy lounge feel. The live band was a plus in that they did a lot of classic rock "ish"cover songs. This was a nice Change of pace for us after suffering a few days from modern day pop "music" with every turn of our head. The real gem was the bartender Sean and his innate talented and craft for making top notch, heavenly tasting martinis!!! I ordered a key lime pie martini and everything about it was just perfectly good. Too bad I have no picture to back up the beauty and superb image of Sean's piece of work!! Sean is truly the most personable, funny, talented and adorable bartender I've encountered in my 37 years. He only works here on Wednesday's, so bare this in mind . We met a few other kick butt characters during our visit at Virgilio's. One of the younger band members named Tyler and John, a lively local who took interest in me and my fiancé's news of getting engaged just an hour prior.
