We ate at the bar and the bartender Igor was great. He was working his butt off to make drinks but he still found time to talk to us and make sure we had what we needed. We eat at Margaritaville restaurants whenever we get a chance. They never disappoint. This location is the true Mother Church of the chain and you can feel Jimmy's spirit everywhere. So when this world starts a-reelin' from that pressure drop feelin' and your just treading water each day. There's a way to feel better. We stopped in today for an afternoon drink at the bar. I got a watermelon margarita and the other person got the blueberry pomegranate margarita. Derek was our server. Both drinks were excellent and service was the best. Decor amazing as always. The reason for the 2 stars, however, was what we observed as we were finishing our drinks. A younger female bartender she was behind the bar) sneezed into her hand and then grabbed a glass and started making the drink, also dipped the glass into the salt or sugar. That's just gross. Servers were friendly and informative. They know folks entering their restaurant are from the cruise on a quick stop or visiting tourists so they are very friendly but not over zealous. Came here for a late night snack/dinner. The menu had GF items listed but online indicated the nachos could be made GF, but it was not indicated in the restaurant. We stopped in for a drink or two and were fortunate to find a few seats at the bar where we were immediately greeted by Derek, he dropped off a few menus while finishing up a few drinks for other customers. Although I'm not an official "Parrothead" I do enjoy listening to some Jimmy Buffet tunes especially here at the original Margaritaville and raised a glass in his honor. All I know is no matter what you're opinion of this place is, it's so nostalgic and I loved my time here "Wastin' away again in Margaritaville" we had a ice cold Landshark draft with a lime and a top shelf margarita and have no complaints. It's late November in Key West the front doors are propped open, it's sunny, 78 degrees out, and the tunes are blaring, I'm not going to sweat the small stuff. If you've ever wondered what the "Salt Life" feels like, this is it so if you're lucky enough to be here relax and tune out the noise of the outside world. This original gem could almost be missed if you're not paying attention! It's so cute. I was very excited to get to the very first Margaritaville and it didn't disappoint. I got my classic perfection meal of the house marg and cheeseburger in paradise. All were as fantastic as they always are! A little better actually because this is Key West. Recently went to this original Margaritaville location for the third time, since first coming here in the early 1990's. It was great to see that it's basically unchanged. We had a couple of rounds of drinks and some appetizers, and they were still just as good as I remembered. The live music and bartenders made the afternoon extra special. We have been to other Margaritaville locations worldwide but this remains my favorite. When I got home, I found a menu I had "appropriated" back around 1992. (Check out those early 90's prices!) Oddly, the "original" Margaritaville was my least favorite one I've visited. First, we walk in and say party of 6 and the two ladies at the desk say "this isn't a restaurant it's a gift shop". So, confused, I walk around a bit to shop, then find the entrance to the restaurant...ten feet away from the ladies, yet they never pointed us that way. We walk through doorway into restaurant and try to get seated again. Greeters say "we don't have any tables for 6". They offer as a round table for 4 plus 2 at the bar right across from it...ok that works. Order drinks and appetizers right away, lemonades and Margarita came but not the waters we also ordered (98 degree day). Appetizer brought about by a runner, no plates, no silverware, still no water. Server comes back, takes food order. Ask her for plates for apps and the waters again. Plates and silverware come, second round of Margaritas come, NO WATERS STILL. Main food comes out with two wrong plates, delivered by runner. Server comes to table (no waters) and we show her wrong dish, they take it away. The rest of food comes out correct. ASK FOR WATERS AGAIN....she finally goes and gets water. Order 3rd round of Margaritas. Oddly, after THREE world famous margarits none of the drinkers have a buzz...I've never walked out of a Jimmy Buffett Margaritaville without a buzz! This Margaritaville restaurant bar location has been a landmark for a while in Key West. You can sit at the front area and people watch on Duval Street. This location has a cool second floor eating area that overlooks the entire place. The decor is of course Key West themed and love the wind or wave (not sure) painting on the ceiling. The bar is very long and takes up most of the side wall. I go here more for the vibe than the food though. read more

There are also plenty of choices on the menu if you aren't interested in a burger. Of course, I had to get a Cheeseburger in Paradise. First of all, the restaurant was so hot. After our server got our order, she never came back by to check on us, until we had to flag her down to get our check. A runner delivered our food. The restaurant wasn't even busy. I could more so understand why we didn't see her if the restaurant was actually bustling. We just popped in for some sodas and an app. Our sodas tasted terrible and our appetizer wasn't good either. Not to mention we were in there for over 2 hours just for an appetizer and waiting for our server to get our check... not because we wanted to be in there that long. When we walked in the hostess tried to sit our party of 5 at a tiny round table, by the front door. I asked if we could be seated somewhere else and I was told there were no tables available for 5. I walked upstairs myself and there were tables available they just needed to be cleaned. I told her this and she rolled her eyes and stomped up the stairs. They slowly cleaned the table and finally sat us. She had the other hostess take us upstairs. Our waiter was then in-turn short with us and seemed irritated. I told him we are not rude, we just need more space, and wasn't sure what he was told. He also rolled his eyes. We asked for a kids menu and he said he only had a cheeseburger or Mac and cheese. He did not provide a menu, I looked online and found more options listed for their location. When we ordered I asked about chicken tenders as they were listed online. He said he would see what he could do. He never told us if that was or wasn't an option. The food came out pretty quickly, but was not great. My daughter's tenders tasted like they were fried 4 days ago and left under a warmer, until we ordered them. The bathroom was also disgusting with a toilet that was overflowing. Came here on my vacation to Key West and had a good time! I had a burger while there and it was pretty good, not the best burger I've ever had but it did the job! The fries were very good!!! As far as the service goes, the server was incredibly friendly, helpful and efficient. Our food and drinks didn't take long at all! Lastly, as far as the ambiance goes, it's incredibly vibrant and inviting. The music reminds me of my grandpa so it out me at ease! Nice cool place to go during hot days. My kid wanted some mac and cheese and this was basically only place near by that had some so we tried it out. I've been to Margaritaville in Atlantic City, NJ and although I'm not sure if it's the same thing, certainly seemed similar food. Interior is nice and staff was friendly. Conch fritters were good and mac n cheese were the Kraft variety so my kid enjoyed it. Jambalaya presentation was terrible but tasted okay, EXCEPT, the chicken tasted off. Super easy to walk in and seat yourself at the bar. There was no host/-ess while we were there so not really sure about other table seating. The bar tenders were friendly and welcoming. Not super attentive but it is a busy bar at Margaritaville! As soon as we ordered our drinks we ordered our app that we wanted to split. After getting our drinks, we were still waiting on the app and after a while the bar tender came to check on us and asked if we needed anything else. We mentioned the app and he had to go and actually order it for us since it slipped his mind. No biggie as the food came out after another 10 minutes or so. Our margaritas were delicious! I had the last mango in Paris and my fiancé had the perfect margarita. Both of ours were good but I definitely preferred the mango tequila and orange liqueur in mine. By the time we got the spinach and artichoke dip, our drinks were done. The dip was hot and the chips were pretty crunchy, although every once in a while one tasted a little stale. It's a tourist trap, but you knew that. The music is good, ambiance fun and *perfect* for Key West. Service is slow, Hostess seemed disorganized. Staff will ignore and neglect you. Another waitress even snatched the ketchup from our table to give to her table (without asking) just to save herself a few steps. My burger was okay, but French fries had a freezer burn taste. The fish taco was good, but the rice & beans were too salty and not eaten. I enjoyed the premium margarita, it was delicious. Maybe best if you have a drink and eat elsewhere. read more
