As a local in the Keys, I love Chico's. Its affordable, fast, and good. My husband and I come here often becuase sometimes we get sick of expensive seafood, and want a cheaper meal that is equally satisfying. If you're a tourist and want a waterfront, sunset view, then Chico's is not for you. But if you want some filling Mexican food, at a cheaper price than Key West high-dollar restaurants, come to Chico's! The service is always great, the kitchen is fast, so you can eat quickly and be on your way. There's an outside patio area, but I've never seen it, I always dine inside. I love the combo plates, I always order a buritto and taco, or buritto and enchilada combo. Get it "wet" with cheese sauce, yum. Guacamole is good, and they have great salsa. We ordered a pick up order from here and will never again. My bf and I ordered a ton of tacos and a guac appetizer. We got there when they said the order would be ready and it wasn't. At least for the wait they gave us a free queso dip. I was so excited because I personally love queso and didn't order any bc my bf preferred the guac. I tried some and it was absolutely disgusting. I can't even explain what it tasted like but not cheese I'll tell you that. I've ate plenty of "okay" or "not the best" queso but this one was so bad neither one of us had any more than that first bite. As for yhe tacos, the meat (we got chicken, beef and pork) was all dried up. Completely dry. There was BARELY any pico on the tacos and the refried beans were like cafeteria quality. All stuck together and bland. The rice was the only decent thing (bland but at least it wasn't bad like everything else). The salsa was okay, very watery not very chunky. The guac was generic, like what you get in the containers at the supermarket. Very very disappointed with this place. Will also say our stomachs were KILLING us that night and the next day. It's were the locals go, so we are told. Based the age and attitudes of those we sat around I would agree it's a local hang out. This place is between Stock Island and Key West island right past the Chevron. There were 4 of us and we only had to wait about 5 minutes and then we got a table on the back patio, which was perfect. We all had something different: Chilli Rellano, Enchiladas Suiza, Green Chilli Enchiladas, and Carne Asada. All come with Rice and beans and were steaming hot and very good. The Carne Asada is served with a mashed potato empanada which was different. We split a pitcher of Margherita which was more than enough for all of us. The chips and salsa is served complimentary but only one basket. They charge you for refills. The salsa is home made and a bit spicy. This place Is off the beaten path but worth the trip if you asked me. Since you have read this far you must be asking ;) Parking is a bit difficult as it's super small parking lot. read more

We would highly recommend this place to anyone. The services was exceptional and our waitress was very knowledgeable about everything we inquired about. Holy cow! We were beyond impressed with this place. From the second the we walked in the door, we felt welcomed. The host told us there was a little bit of a wait but told us he would get us seated right away. Right from the beginning we felt like our business and company mattered. The margaritas were delicious. We also tried the special soup which was phenomenal. It had turkey, pork, hominy and fresh herbs. At our table was fish tacos, portobello mushroom enchiladas, tacos, queso and everything was outstanding. The magic cilantro, garlic sauce was something we have never tasted but it was for sure special. The server was the chefs wife and owner, she was exceptional. We were in Key West 1 night and due to flooding we couldn't get downtown, so we had to settle for something close to our hotel. What a great find! I am originally from Texas and have been living in Virignia for 3 years without a decent option for good Mexican food. This meal was just what we needed to satisfy our craving for a big plate of cheesy enchiladas w/ rice and beans. We added a slice of key lime pie for dessert and the meal was 5 stars. Decent food with parking in the front. Easy to get to from the main road. Prices were pretty steep. $18 for fish tacos. It came with beans and rice but I guess that's key west prices. It was filling and staff was friendly. Not any real small dishes though they did offer a kids menu. Carne asada was decent but not anything special. Clearly everything here is made fresh daily. The guacamole was the smoothest and creamiest I've ever tasted. I did notice there was no "kick" to it like others I've tasted (I am not a Mexican food expert) but a friend said "authentic" Mexican is not typically "spicy". The salsa did have a nice kick to it. We went here specifically for the steak tacos. Because of the Yelp reviews, we drove 20 minutes all the way from Truman Annex to eat here. My family wanted to just walk to dinner but I am a Yelp believer and the Yelp community did not disappoint! OMG was it ever worth going a bit off the beaten tourist path....if you want good Mexican food this is the place! My son and his fiance both ordered the steak tacos and raved about the flavor. I'm including a photo. When we entered the restaurant, the aroma of freshly cooked food wafted over us as we were seated by a genuinely happy to see us host (we saw him hug and kiss an older gentleman later...seemed they had known each other for decades). Locals eat here (my kinda place). We knew this place was different when they asked "How would you like your steak cooked?" Who asks how the steak gets cooked for steak tacos?! This place does! My son said the steak was melt in your mouth moist and flavored impeccably. They both were in heaven over the steak. It made we wish I had ordered this! I had read comments on the cheese dip so we tried that along with the guacamole for starters. At first the cheese dip looked a bit thin (more like soup) but as it cooled, it thickened. You can tell real quality cheese when you have to cut a string of cheese as you pull up your chips. They refilled our chips as we emptied them and we ate WAY too much before the main course arrived. If you are hungry, this is the place, especially if you like chips and dip/salsa/guac. I was amused by their "Gringo" menu. My husband does not eat Mexican (except he loved the Flautas as an appetizer) so he ordered the hamburger. He said it was average (what he usually says) but adequate. The service here was top notch. I think we had 4 different people filling our drinks, asking after us, and keeping the chip baskets full. It was like they were watching and as we got close to empty, they offered more. I love service like this and they were REALLY busy so it's not like they had nothing better to do! As we left there was a line out the door waiting for a table. Tip: get their early (before 6pm). Even if you have to wait, it will be worth it trust me. read more

The portions were the smallest I've seen at a Mexican place anywhere in S Florida. $23 for 3 tacos and $22 for a chimichanga the size of a medium potato. Granted, they weren't terrible, but certainly nothing special. I asked for a refill of the chips and was charged extra for the chips and the salsa. The margaritas were made with bar mix. To top it off they added a service charge, I guess because I paid with a card. Almost $90 for 2 entrees and 3 margaritas. Priced like they are on Duval street, no local discount either. We dined here (five adults) on our trip to Key West. We have dined at MANY Mexican restaurants around the country and throughout Mexico, and this restaurant left a lot to be desired. The chips and salsa were just okay. The prices are high for what you actually get. Be very careful if you are dining in the back room (patio), as there's a board that hangs down and I smacked my head very hard and several days later, the top of my cranium is still sore. There needs to be a sign on it to "watch your head". I'm 6'0 and I'm sure I was not the first victim. I noticed the taller wait staff would duck every time. I had a cap on and didn't notice it until it was too late. The hostess offered to bring me a bag of ice, but I waited until we got back to our condo since I had a terrible headache. We ate here since it was close to our accommodations but would absolutely go to El Siboney or elsewhere next time! read more
