This was an accidental find - popped in our first night in Key West because it was right across the street from our VRBO. It's a small cafe with personality - a few tables and a counter. Gabriela took great care of us (we went there THREE times while in Key West - once for dinner, twice for coffee and key lime pie!!). SOOOO good! Hubs had the beef tacos in corn tortillas with black beans and rice and salsa verde and pronounced it all delicious! (I tried the black beans and rice and loved it!). I had a chicken empanada which was great but I loved the arepa stuffed with shredded chicken the best - fabulous with their homemade salsa verde (I would put that on everything!!!). Let me tell you about that ginger mimosa - amazing! They make their own ginger syrup and I loved that it had a little ginger bite and was not overly sweet. While everyone CLAIMS to have "authentic" key lime pie, this one won our vote - no toxic green color and a smooth creamy tangy custard. And not cool whip either. Yum! Arrived on a busy Sunday late morning to a busy but not packed shop. We wanted coffees and toast to go, but the single server said to order food we needed to sit at a table. Down we sat. When she came over, I asked how long for coffees and toast, and if we should actually be taking up a table for a carry out order. The server said, "I can't tell you that." I clarified: "Could you say if it'll be 10 minutes or 45 minutes?" and she confirmed that she could not (would not?) answer the question. Then she turned to another customer standing there and repeated (incredulously) that she had no idea how long anything would take. Very strange. That was a our cue to leave and head to Cuban Queen, which offers true counter service and a much friendlier atmosphere. If you're looking for a sit-down, menu experience, this might be an option. If you want quick carry out, this is not it. Either way, service has to be friendlier almost anyplace else. read more

We stopped in for lunch and share the tacos con al pastor and a Cuban sandwich. A great meal and the tacos were by far better than the sandwich. But I'd recommend both if you are hungry. We discovered this cute lil cafe while getting a little lost while walking in Key West. This place is more than a cafe and has a HUGE variety of meals. After eating some not so great items in the touristy area, I wish I had room in my stomach to try some of the awesome food at this place. This may be an odd complaint but I kinda wish their menu was smaller. We got a couple of cuban coffees and an Orange and Melon drink. We visited Key West Cuban Coffee after an audible from Moondog (25 min wait) for a late morning breakfast. There was no wait and we split a Chorizo Breakfast Burrito with a hot black coffee and an iced latte. The burrito was delicious, with the chorizo having more of a ground beef texture than the cased sausage chorizo we've had at other restaurants in KW. The spice level of the meat and salsa was excellent and the salsa verde complemented the dish. The only complaint was from my girlfriend who ordered an iced latte which tasted a bit burnt upon receipt. There was music playing over the speakers inside at a nice volume level. There was also a set of drums for live music at different times. The prices were a bit higher than our regular breakfast spot but the burrito was more substantial. We would visit again as a nice change of pace from Cuban Coffee Queen. read more

The minute me and my wife walked in here and I saw the lady behind the counter I knew the food was going to be amazing!!!! And I was not wrong!! Me and my wife stoped by to have a quick dinner here after reading all these great reviews about this place. I ordered the grilled chicken with tostones, rice, beans and green sauce. I have to say the chicken was amazing so fresh and juicy, definitely hands down one of the best grilled chicken dishes I ever had. The tostones on the other hand definitely the best tostones I ever had, they were so crispy and amazing I could just eat a whole plate of them. My wife got the skirt steak which was very tender and juicy, overall very very good. Also our waitress was super nice and helpful. We also got the Key Lime pie which is actually made right here on premise. It was very very good and full of flavor. I would honestly recommend this hidden gem to everyone who's looking to have some good food! Trust me you won't be disappointed!!! A huge array of dishes with a sweet friendly owner and huge portions of delicious food! We came for breakfast and got a huge portion of catch of the day grilled grouper in a bowl with beans and rice and salad, with an excellent side of chimichurri. My wife got the breakfast egg bowl and daughter the shrimp bowl. All were enormous, comfort food and high quality. The cocoa beans with cinnamon and allspice was a cut above the usual hot chocolate. The guava and cheese empanada was OUTSTANDING, fresh out of the oven and the best we have ever had! Next time, will load up on them to go! My friends and I were looking for place to recover from a night of good times. Key West Cuban Coffee looked to be the perfect place to overcome a hangover. Located in the middle of Key West near Duval, it was pretty easy to get to. We rode rented bikes and locked them up at the nearby rack. From there it was a short walk to get inside and seat ourselves in the quaint space. The staff was very attentive to our needs and got us started quickly. The menu has a ton of options for every palate with everything from breakfast burritos to traditional tacos and churrasco. After deliberation among the group, we decided to try a variety of Cuban coffee from cortadas to iced black coffee and a caramel latte. They all exceeded expectations. As for the fare itself, we started with an order of ham croquettes (also amazing) before ordering entrees. I chose the Ropa Vieja plate pictured alongside the review. Portions were amazing, and value was pretty good at around $18 at the time of this review. Honestly, it was one of the best meals I've had in recent memory. The beef was perfectly savory, and the tomatillo salsa was particularly great as well mixed with the rice. I loved the plantains too. All in all, I can't recommend this place more. If you have the time, this is a must-see restaurant in Key West and the perfect place to get your day started in paradise. read more
