For what it is, this place is GREAT! We were staying in a condo on Smathers Beach, a wonderful area for beach life but a bit of a food wasteland - most of the solid places to eat are 2-4 miles away in the downtown area. As we were walking, we saw this little "hole in the wall" (almost literally) place on the side of a market. There were a few people in line, and the menu looked interesting, so we thought we'd give it a shot. Since much of the menu had Cuban items, we thought we would try a "Cuban Mix" sandwich - a combination of ham, cheese, roast pork (shredded), salami, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles. It was topped with mustard and mayo. Plain and simple, this thing was DELICIOUS. Moist, meaty, and enough for my wife and me to share. The flavors just came together so well it really surprised us. The roll was soft with just a little chew, and was the perfect bread for the sandwich. The meat was very lean, and seasoned very nicely. After spending big bucks on many of the trendy, upscale places on Key West (most of which were worth the expense!), this was a terrific find to bring us back into the "real world". The workers were very friendly (some require a little patience because English is not their first language) and happy, which added to the experience. Don't let the appearance of this place scare you away - it's wonderful! My wife and I enjoyed it so much we went back later in the week for another Cuban Mix. This neighborhood hotspot does a banging business with the locals who seem to compose the majority of the regulars. Most people I spoke with were huge fans of the Cuban or the Cuban Pork sandwich but I also found plenty of high schoolers who swore by the bacon, egg, and cheese. We ordered a steak and cheese, Turkey and cheese, and a BLT. Cooking style is a wedge that is pressed flat like a panini. All hit the spot and merited a return visit. Prices are reasonable and service is con sonrisas. There are a few stools outside and a ledge for devouring your sandwich in record time. Caveat: Bring cash as they were experiencing some digital difficulties with the Apple Pay on my second visit and I was short on cash and had to curtail my order. read more

Found this gem on Yelp as my daughter and I were sweating and hungry on the beach, with no real options in sight. We walked the half a mile and had bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches and a strawberry smoothie. All were amazingly delicious, and the staff were super kind. The one place in keywest that I can guarantee has amazing food at an actual good price! Service was quick and friendly.

It's easy to overlook this order-at-the-counter sandwich shop. It's more a locals joint, and really, don't they know best? It's a great find on the other side of the island. The menu is simple to understand. You order at the window and soak up the sun while you wait for your order. It is more of a to-go breakfast, although they do have about 4 stools to sit at if you wanted to eat there. When you place your order, they write it down on a brown paper bag--the same one they give you your order in. It is pretty efficient. We had the bacon, egg and cheese. The best parts were how the eggs were cooked as an omelet and that there was mayo on the sandwich. As expected, it was on delicious cuban bread. We also had the cheese bread. We ordered a cheeseburger; yes, it was breakfast. It was good! I do wish it was served on cuban bread rather than a kaiser roll. The potato croquettes have an interesting taste, but they are fabulous, too. My wife claims the café con leche is some of the best on the island. read more
