My husband and I lived in Albany, NY for 2.5 years so I'm shocked I've never reviewed Cafe Lark before. We consistently ordered from Cafe Lark and the Margherita pie with sausage added was a regular fave. We always ordered it extra crispy and they delivered on both flavor and crispness. I'm a bit of a pizza snob so I was glad to find a pizza parlor that could deliver. We had the chicken wings special often and they were usually cooked well. I don't like that the carrots and celery are delivered in sandwich bags which I use at home but other than that I am onboard with the wings too! read more

Our food came cold, I ordered extra sauce they did not give it to me then when I called they said I asked for extra cheese yet they didn't even put extra cheese and my receipt says extra sauce. They had an attitude on the phone and they weren't even speaking English. I asked if I can get a refund or if they can send the correct food and they hung up on me. I ordered a Sicilian panini and it was terrible. It was basically a mashed tomato, better yet one slice of tomato on each slice of bread with one half of a basil leaf. Also very soggy and I would not consider that a panini since it wasn't even grilled and on a roll. They also forgot my other sandwich and accused me of lying about it. Everything was fresh and was happy to see that they serve breakfast after 11am. I order two egg cheese and sausage bagels with 1 order of hash brown, not knowing the hashbrowns were regular size which waS good to see! However, my only complaint was the sausage patty. Horrible service!! And RAW BACON!! PLEASE READ & tell me if you think this is normal. I ordered for delivery, 2 subs and a couple other things from the menu. The sub I ordered was a toasted sub with bacon, ham and Mayo. That is not what I got. I got a cold sub with ham, cheese, Mayo, and COLD bacon that was never cooked! I'm assuming it was pre-cooked but it was never heated up it was freezing cold and rubbery like they just took it out of a package and put it on my sub. My boyfriends sub was toasted and had COOKED bacon on it. We called and it BLEW my mind what the owner had to say... he told us we always serve the bacon like that on a cold sub (even though I asked for a toasted sub). He told us "we can bring you a sub tomorrow".. it was only 6pm. He REFUSED to refund us or bring us a new sub.. with cooked bacon, no cheese and toasted bread like I asked for. Very disappointed. Ordered two of their lark special breakfast burritos. Said multiple times that I am allergic to turkey and can't have any turkey in it. The description clearly only says bacon and sausage. They were adamant that there would not be turkey. First bite told me right away it was obviously TURKEY BACON! call to confirm and they say thats the only bacon they use. THEN YOU NEED TO SAY THAT! WHAT IF I ATE THE WHOLE THING?! I COULD'VE BEEN HOSPITALIZED! Trying to sell turkey bacon as bacon is shady. If you can't have pork then fine but you need to say it's turkey. We were a regular customer here until today. The delivery we received was 15 minutes late. Bagel were stale and ice cold, the cream cheese tasted spoiled. The ice coffees were warm and ice had melted. so was just luke warm coffee. We called to complain. Owner promised that they would resend the food in 10 minutes. It never came. This is after we've ordered breakfast from there nearly 2x a week for the longest time. We complained to Grubhub who offered a $10 coupon which was $4 less than the cost of the food that was not fresh. So we said we'd like a refund for the full amount of the poorly delivered items. They called the owner and he refused to authorize the refund--over $4! The owner is quite obviously short sighted and does not treat his good customers well. Located just down the street from my good friend Chris B, Cafe Lark is often my go-to choice when I want a slice of pizza or breakfast sandwich, but don't want to go very far. Pizza is naturally a delicious food and they do it well. Sure, I love a good wood-fired pie, fancy margarita with fresh basil, or a nice deep dish from time to time, but, when you want a good variety of toppings to choose from and a hot, fresh slice, Cafe Lark will you do no wrong. Even though it's open late, Cafe Lark is also a good place for breakfast. During the warmer months, I'm especially a fan of the iced coffee, which they serve with ice cubes made from coffee, so your coffee doesn't get watered down as it melts. Great idea, Cafe Lark! If I could give 3.5 stars I would. I tried a cheese slice, chicken and broccoli slice and garlic knots. Cheese slice tasted kind of weird, not like a normal cheese slice. The chicken and broccoli was pretty good, the chicken didn't taste like cardboard like some other pizza shops. The garlic knots were nothing special, and they were served with cold marinara which I would've preferred warm/hot. There seemed to be a good variety of slices, but the staff didn't seem to be able to handle the large crowds coming in from Larkfest. This was after apologizing and stating he misunderstood me (The person who took my call was clearly struggling with english), and saying they will make sure it doesn't happen in the future but refused to do the decent thing and make it right.The manager would not get on the phone and then the employee hung up on me. I do not recommend ordering anything from them as they literally have no concept of food safety or customer service. I definitely reported them to the department of health, so I'm sure they will be getting an inspection soon. One Panini was supposed to have grilled chicken, sun dried tomatoes, artichokes and fresh Mozzetta and include chips and a pickle got a sandwich with grilled chicken red peppers and maybe 3 artichokes no sides. I stopped in once and had an egg and cheese bagel from this place on another occasion. We tried a slice of the breakfast pizza (scrambled egg, cheese and bacon), which was surprisingly pretty solid. Definitely different, and I'd return for that alone. The egg and cheese bagel was good and fresh, and not microwaved, which seems to be the norm in this town, yuck. Otherwise their other breakfast options are the usual... bagel sandwiches, muffins, pastries, coffee. We chatted with the owner while he was preparing our food and he seems pretty friendly. This place definitely beats DD across the street, and they're on the same price point. I hope they continue to expand. It would be nice to have another brunch place in the neighborhood. I think they're working out the kinks of their new business, but I look forward to returning to see how they evolve. read more

The irony is - this cafe is named cafe lark but is on Madison Ave instead of lark street. This cafe is absolutely amazing. The coffee is something you MUST try if your ever in Albany. Don't settle for a Starbucks or a Dunkin donuts coffee, I'm serious. The coffee they make at cafe lark is unlike any other.
