I really like Bountiful Bread and I go their frequently, mostly for their morning glory muffins. Their sandwiches, soups, and salads are just special and made with care. For example, my simple breakfast sandwich (pictured) was on a full ciabatta sub and it had spinach. The server, who is always there in the morning and always so kind, suggested an array of veggies when I told her I did not eat pork. The decor is peaceful - light brown wooden aesthetic. It would be a cool place to study. The only thing I do not like at BB is their coffee. I took the advice of the cashier and ordered a steak sandwich her way (minus the cheese) and I chose a half sandwich with Italian chicken soup! OMG! The restaurant is clean and comfortable with the exception that some do the tables need a better cleaning off. This is a place where you clean up after yourself. While things may sometimes be a bit pricier here than some other bakeries, they absolutely make up for in quality of their bakes. All of their baked goods (cookies, cupcakes, muffins, etc.) are absolutely delicious and always stand out in my mind. The best thing about bountiful bread is the service, particularly from the front of house/cashiers. Always greeted with a smile and a helpful word, the two women who I see regularly on the weekends are absolutely a highlight. I gave Bountiful Bread four stars. I was disappointed to see the mediocre ratings on Yelp. I always thought the location at Stuyvesant Plaza looked so cool with all of the breads in the window. In my mind nothing sounds more delicious or wholesome as freshly baked bread. So I was looking forward to grabbing a quick meal there. When we stopped in for lunch the other day, surprisingly I chose the Power Bowl instead of a sandwich. Filled with veggies, steak and a fried egg, it hit the spot. I really enjoyed it even though I didn't meet my original goal. My husband, meanwhile, ordered the Southwest Roast Beef Sandwich. He said it was good. He ate half and took the other half home. It was a busy place at lunchtime. Service was okay. The ordering process was smooth and the staff in the open kitchen assembled the meals quickly. I don't mind paying for good food and decent service, but here you leave feeling that you are taken advantage of. I ordered online, and when I went to pick up my order, I stood at the pick-up spot for a long time, while the staff continued to cash out new people in line without even recognizing me. I then looked for my order behind the counter - not there - had to go back to the kitchen counter, they sent me back to the checkout counter, where I had to continue to wait because the sandwich was not even made well after the promised pick up time. The food is always good. That's where the compliments end. For the number of staff working, the tables are often dirty. When I picked up my salad from the counter and got to our table I was turned off by the fingerprints of food all over the outside of the bowl. I thought it was just mine, until I saw another person in our party with the same mess on theirs. While I ate, I watched two other patrons return to the counter to have their order corrected. The young lady at the register was pleasant and took our order. Upon being called I retrieved our order, mine included a cup of the chicken potato soup and Mediterranean salad. The soup was not well seasoned but I added a bit of salt and only ate half of the cup. I then turned to the salad where as I opened the dressing and attempted to dip my fork in the dressing. The dressing was like a thick wallpaper paste. I went up to the front to just make sure of what I ordered and reviewed the description. I said to one of the workers may I ask you a question where upon she immediately said "I'm going on my break". I then said I just have a question, is the dressing supposed to be like this and she said oh goodness no. She then directed me to go to the kitchen area and request another dressing which I did. I go back to the table and I start again with the salad. Where upon I realize there is no chicken in the salad oookkk so I go back up to the kitchen and say this salad has no chicken in it. The 5 people just look at me. Finally one guy says "oh it has no chicken"? No I say as you can see it has no chicken. At this point I am completely flabbergasted and I say "may I have some chicken in my salad?" Finally a girl says here I can give you chicken. I go back to the table and I have never had such tasteless dry chicken in my life. I literally said to my husband I can't eat this. Bountiful bread is an OK place and when it makes it soups, they are utterly fantastic at times. The sandwiches are OK to very good at times as well. The problem with bountiful bread is that it appears to do dumb things at times, like not knowing that their menu online is incorrect, then changing what you requested with something else, when they know that what you ordered isn't available that day. Then they prepare it for pick up without telling you what they did. Even your receipt when you pick it up says what you originally ordered, so you are assuming that the item is in the bag for pick up before you go and it's not. That is a very good recipe for disaster. Why prepare an order you know that I didn't want, not tell me about it and then expect me to be satisfied when I open the package and find out what I ordered is not what I wanted? When I call after I notice, they say when you go back, tell the person there that you got the wrong item. How do I know when the next time I'm going to be back in that area? I don't! Why not at least try to get it right the first time by letting the person know or if you cannot do that, at least cancel the order, and let the person know as well? A few of the reasons why I choose any place to patronize a business, is because of the consistency the business, that when I order something, I know I'm going to receive that item in a timely manner, it is very good and at a reasonable price. If I continue to not know what I'm going to be picking up, I'm going to stop going to that place of business. It's a simple as that. read more

Food is excellent, but I did not give it 5 Stars because of the seating area/dinner room. It is crowded and nothing special which would be nice to complement the quality food. Chairs were uncomfortable and most tables were occupied. The room could be set up more attractively with smaller tables. I had the Avocado Beet Toast (2 slices) which was delicious. I liked the flavors plus the crunch of the crusty fresh bread, and the pumpkin, sunflower, and sesame seeds. The pasta salad was flavorful. It cost $9.00 which was a reasonable price.
