This was our first ever Dave's Hot Chicken experience - the service was pretty good for a fast food joint. Hubby and I both picked the same level of spice but his was much spicier than mine. The consistency issue was too bad. I also thought the chicken could have been crispier. I like the Dave's sauce and I appreciate they gave me extra. The kid who was working there is a true hard worker. He was polite. When he wasn't working the counter, he was cleaning the tables. I recall the restroom being clean so that was an indication of how good of a job the workers are doing. Overall I rate the food 3.5 out of 5 but with the cleanliness, service and friendliness of staff, I think 4 is fair. read more

Nice place to get your late night hot chicken fix! We tried the combo with two sandwiches and two tenders. Both were a big size. We had one sandwich and one tender each. I would highly recommend the two sandwiches combo next time since the sandwich is a tender that comes with a balanced Cole slaw and a nice bun whereas the tenders only come with regular white slice bread. Spice level extra spicy. The fries were double seasoned and went well with their Dave's creamy sauce. Waitress was nice and patient even though it's late at night since we didn't know what to order first. Soda machine: the tea one had a funky smell so definitely needs to clean it! Gross. Overall loved the place but not sure if my stomach can take it often lol read more

I've wanted to try Dave's for a while now and this was my first time ever. Interior was nice and clean and the customer service was excellent! Food wise we got the sliders with fries at medium level spice and I would say this was delicious. The fries especially were really good as well. I adore chicken sandwiches and love spicy food so someday I want to get to Nashville to try the chicken sandwich that it is so famous for. Until then, I have to rely on local options. This place popped up on my radar so one day I came with the family. It is a very minimalistic sort of restaurant with not much ambiance or pretense, but since the food was paramount to my visit I focused on that. Their menu was a little confusing: for chicken they essentially have tenders and sandwiches (sliders), but of their four combo meals each seemed to allow you to add more of the other, or cheese, or whatnot. Kaleslaw (coleslaw) and fries are standard, as are lots of dill pickle slices. I ordered a chicken slider at the second-highest spice level ("Extra Hot") with the kaleslaw on the side. It came with fries and a side of "Dave's sauce" (a mayo + sweet ketchup like mixture). My wife had the second-least spicy level ("Extra Mild"... a/k/a lame) sandwich, and my son got a plain ("No Spice") tender. Food was up relatively quickly. My sandwich glistened with grease and hot sauce and the chicken was much larger than the bun. Perhaps that is why they call it a slider and not a full sandwich. I bit in expecting the heat and I got it... but only because it was fresh out of the oil. Once I allowed it to cool for a minute the heat was gone. I may have a pretty good tolerance for heat but this seemed pretty wimpy. Tasty... yes, in a Cajon blackened chicken sort of way. But my mouth wasn't burning or anything. My wife's extra mild sandwich was mild to the extreme and if someone told me it was blackened fish I would have believed them. It tasted fine, but not spicy at all. My son's tender was very dark with a craggy coating that appeared different from our spicy chicken sandwiches and was decent, though I found myself dipping it in Dave's sauce for more flavor. He liked it plain. The sides of fries were coated crinkle fries with a seasoning spice mixture applied, and they were great. The Kaleslaw was a lot better than I expected and I wish I had ordered it on my sandwich after all. Note for next time. It didn't seem to have much onion or flavor outside of the kale/cabbage, but that worked for me. My wife loved the copious amounts of pickles that came with our three orders. They don't advertise it as Nashville hot chicken so it isn't fair for me to compare it to that. For $40 it wasn't cheap but the sandwiches were good. That being said, the college-chic atmosphere didn't do it for me. If I come back, and I likely will, I will need to order the chicken at the hottest setting (Reaper) and see how it goes. read more

Dave's Hot Chicken has been on our radar for a while now so when we drove by this location in Albany we just had to stop in. Hubby ordered the Dave's #1 Hot Tender Basket and I ordered the Dave's #3 Mild Tender & Mild Slider Basket. Our food came out in about 5 minutes. Everything was delicious! The slider was huge, more like a small sandwich. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, even for mild. It also had a really nice crunch. I enjoyed the thick cut pickles, kale slaw and Dave's sauce. The toasted potato bun was an excellent choice. The tenders were fairly big as well. Hubby got 3 tenders in his basket. The hot was spicy and packed with that classic Nashville flavor. The crinkle cut fries were seasoned very well and had a perfect crisp to them. Overall, a solid hot chicken joint. Until next time Dave's! read more

TLDR: elevated chicken sangwich, Cole slaw is too runny. Service was a little slow as there was a large order right ahead of me, looks like they ordered one of everything on the menu. Restaurant was clean. Bathrooms were clean. The decor of the restaurant was pretty cool. Split the double slider with fries with my husband. The fries were nice and hot, seasoned right out the fryer. The Cole slaw must've been sitting in its juices bc it was quite wet and made the rest of the sangwich very soggy. Pickles were also a bit moist. This would not have traveled well. Very messy to eat as it was juices flowing everywhere. Good sangwich, significantly better in Toronto where I had the same thing the day before. Go for the hot, it isn't too spicy! read more

All things considered, this was definitely a 5 star sandwich for me. The place was surprisingly busy at 3pm on a Saturday, especially for Albany. I did like that the decor had some Albany-themed decor too. My friend and I were brought here because of their app download promotion. Within a certain timeframe, if you downloaded it they would give you a free slider when you order ahead. I thought the slider would be pretty small because of the name, but I'm happy with how much it filled me. You get to choose from 5 of 6 different spice levels which I appreciate! My friend got it hot while I chose mild. I could've gone up a little bit, but I accidentally bit the spicy first and thought they were trying to kill me. Luckily my mild was sort of perfect, I could've done a bit spicier. If you're not sure what to pick between two options, choose the spicier one because you can grab honey packets that both make the slider yummy and cools the spice. I'm giving 5 stars because this is a fast food chain restaurant that had a solid product. Also, I liked that you can see the differences in chicken size and shape between two sandwiches. I'd 100% prefer that to say McDonald's consistent one size for each item. Dave's is a little more fun this way read more

Dave's hot chicken is serving "Not chicken" cauliflower options. I stopped in specifically for this after seeing and advertisement on social media. The fries were good. The cauliflower was good, not as crunchy as advertised but it was extremely flavorful. Service was good, they made sure I was ordering everything I wanted and told me to expect a short wait as everything is made to order. When my order was ready they asked if I wanted any additional sauces so I took some ketchup for the fries. The sauce didn't look vegan so I didn't try it. I'm assuming it's some kind of mayonnaise based sauce with spices. On a budget? The $16+ meal deal is probably not for you. But an order of six cauliflower nuggets comes with a slice white bread and pickles which makes a half sandwich. The pickle with a cauliflower bite is a nice salty and savory bite when paired together. So the 6 piece bites and fries come in at about half the price of the cauliflower "not chicken" sandwich. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and would go back again as long as cauliflower stays on the menu! read more

So, I am a big fan of extra spicy food. And this place did not disappoint. I was in Austin for the past month and searched for some hot Nashville Chicken. This place popped up, but the closest location was San Antonio. Not driving an hour for that, especially since I saw some Yelp reviews from my Yelp peeps in Albany. Nonetheless, I put this on my first place to enjoy when I returned to Albany. Well, I must say it was a challenging return, not because of the flights. They were perfect, but it broke my heart seeing all the Buffalo fans in the airport all depressed. Anyways, made it home only to wake up to SNOW Monday morning. Something I haven't had to deal with for the past winter. Well, the Jeep was up to task, and after a long day post travel day, I just wanted to head home. Tuesday was a better day, and I stopped in my Favorite Stewart's on Fuller Road and picked up some piping hot fresh coffee and a great breakfast sandwich. Sorry, forgot to check in and take pics. Well, the day passed and it was 3:30 and many of my colleagues we rushing out early to avoid the coming snow and sleet. I agreed and followed, but then my stomach growled at me in the car and I remembered... Dave's Hot Chicken. It was on my way home on Western Avenue, so I headed there. For those of you who don't know, it is one of the hottest new franchises spreading across the country, and I am so glad Smallbany got one. Location is great, lots of parking, and love the fresh new vibe inside. They greeted me at the register with a pleasant smile and asked if it was my first time here, which was a big star for me. It's places like this that not only focus on great food but great "SERVICE!" The service was fantastic, and the workers were so professional and pleasant. I took it to go, got home and was not disappointed. I ordered the extra spicy from their options and a slider with fries and side tender. This hit the spot. It was perfect. The chicken is real tender chicken breast and the extra spicy is really that.... Hot and Tasty. The fries were decent. I am just glad that my friends and colleagues have an awesome chicken place close to Albany Nanotechnology. read more

I tried here for the 1st time while in Albany. It's definitely a cute fun space. I had one of there ice cream mixed with slush drinks was a combination of sweet and sour but tasted really good. I would definitely go back if in the area of one but not a need. read more

My husband decided to eat hear on a Sat afternoon after an event nearby. I'd been talking about it since it opened because he loves spicy chicken sandwiches. The atmosphere was kind of industrial, casual with spray painted Dave's hot screaming chicken and graphiti muruals. Food was a decent value for the portion and quality. They're using good deli pickles which I love. I ate my husband's and my kids. I ordered a slider and tender combo lite mild so I could share with my kid. The slider came with daves sauce, kale slaw on a nice soft bun. I kind of wish it was a toasted bun. It also came with 5 pickle slices, Dave's sauce on the side and good crinkle fries with some powder seasoning. The tender came on top of a slice of bread. As someone from western NY I was missing a little pat of butter for the bread. Anyways, everything was good but not spicy at all. Also the powdered seasoning blend was kind of thick on the tender and dry in my mouth. I wish it was spicy with out the seasoning on the chicken and fries. The Dave sauce was just doctored mayo, good but nothing fancy. Next time I would just get the tender and use the bread to make a sandwich. Loved the fries. read more

I'm always looking for great chicken places so I decided to give Dave's Hot Chicken a try. With that being said, I'm glad I did because it was delicious. Knowing that, I ordered the combo #3 and macaroni and cheese. The combo comes with a tender, fries, and a chicken sandwich. Anyways, I tried the chicken tender and it was great. To explain, the chicken was juicy and crunchy with just the right amount of spice. Next, I tried the crinkle cut fries which were solid. To elaborate, the fries were crispy and seasoned. On the other hand, the macaroni and cheese was awful. It was incredibly bland and the noodles were generic. On the flip side, the chicken sandwich was excellent and it is the best item here. As I said before, the chicken itself is great, but it's even better on the sandwich. To put into words, the chicken went great with the potato style bun. Also, the pickles were delicious and elevated the sandwich. But, the real MVP of the sandwich was the sauce. The sauce had a tangy, slightly sweet flavor with a prominent heat. The sauce was so good I could have guzzled it down by the gallons. In a word, Dave's Hot Chicken has delicious tenders and sandwiches, but stay away from the macaroni and cheese. read more

I saw a TikTok about this place, and when I searched it didn't realize we have a location nearby! I made an order on the app and it was ready within about 10 minutes. Food was hot and fresh, chicken super crispy. I went with mild and medium, but next time I'll go a bit hotter and put some honey on the chicken. Sides were great, too. The kale salad is delicious. The store is new, everything super clean. The staff was courteous. We come to this Dave's all the time. The food is always consistent, and the employees are nice enough to offer my kid stickers. I always get the "hot" for myself, and it's the perfect level of spice their fountain coke is yummy too (coming from a coke addict). Updated 4/13/23: It's pretty obvious Julie C's job has nothing to do with actually relaying comments back to Dave's, just insisting everyone make the same effort - AGAIN - by leaving comments on their website. Note that reviews with a similar number of stars receive similar, sometimes almost identical, feedback from her. Guess she's too busy cutting and pasting to actually take the time to relay Yelper's comments directly to the business. Back to my initial review... Let's be real here... you came here for the chicken, and all the other food here is just something that comes with the chicken. The chicken is indeed really, really, good. And the service here is quite good as well, the restaurant is very clean. I was a bit surprised at the overall cost of my meal, but I'm sure that has a lot to do with the price of the chicken (since potatoes and soda are relatively inexpensive to prepare but yield good profit). So, knowing that Julie C. is probably going to reply to my post and urge me to provide feedback at their link to earn those extra 2 stars, I will say: No, I'm putting my feedback here, and that will do. I rarely give a 5 star review to an order-at-the-counter chain as it is, but really, it's about the overall experience. - When I arrived, I saw 80% of the customers in the restaurant were waiting for food rather than eating it. After I placed my order, everyone that was already waiting had to wait another 10 minutes before any food was served. One wonders how long they were waiting before I came in. Either things are made in big batches, with long waits in-between, or something was backed up in the kitchen. A smooth delivery of food is always better if possible. - Make the fries more appealing, or make them optional. Crinckle cut packaged fries are so-so, especially when I can to go other places, even some chains, that are either serving hand-cut fries, or seasoned fries. Unless, of course, the fries are a "price raising item" to help manage the cost of the chicken. - Be a bit more factual about the milkshakes. They say made with real ice cream, but I'd be willing to bet it's soft-serve ice cream, because as it melted, my shake did not have the expected taste or consistency of a milkshake made with milk and hard ice cream. Next time I visit a Dave's I'll definitely get either soda or water, as these milkshakes, for me, were not as good as ones I've gotten at other burger/chicken chains. - Either turn down the volume of the music playing, or install a microphone. As customers' orders came out, the employees had to call out numbers multiple times, competing with the music, before the customers realized their food was ready. Of course, handing out buzzers or being able to send messages to a cell phone number would be even better, but the investment is probably not justified. - While I appreciate the effort to keep the restaurant clean, having someone come to my table while I'm waiting for my food and ask me to take my items off of it (including my drink) while I'm sitting there is unnerving. If it's important to keep the tables clean, be sure to staff someone to do it immediately after tables are vacated. read more

It's definitely hot! I was pretty happy with the food from this new spot. The chicken was flavorful, surprisingly moist and tender, and yes, hot. I got the medium and it was just tolerable but I usually get mild when it comes to things with this type of spice so I wasn't too surprised. Although I'm not sure what the Reaper is like!! It's definitely loaded with spices, but I didn't find it overwhelming as that's the style of Nashville hot. Dave's sauce was delicious and the fries and mac n' cheese were decent. One slider with fries and some mac n cheese was plenty! Prices are reasonable. read more

New hot place! Located on Western by the SUNY campus, this is the it place apparently. Super busy parking lot. We ordered online takeout. A very limited menu so the items they have, they make them well. Choose your hotness! I got medium tenders and fries. Even the fries have a kick. I ordered the two tenders and they are huge! I could only eat one and some of the fries. They give you a good amount of crinkle cut fries. The tenders come on bread with pickles and a side of Dave's sauce. The sauce taste like big Mac sauce kind of. The tenders are juicy and the medium was pretty hot! Delicious! They also have family packs. My dinner mate got the sliders. They come on rolls with Dave's sauce. He gobbled them down. He got a side of mac n cheese. He said it was good. Nice portion too! I wish they had a breast as a choice but the tenders were so big, they'll do! A little pricey but worth it. You won't leave hungry. A lot of potential here, but not the best execution here. The sliders were nicely done with cheese, pickles, and sauce, but the chicken was seasoned a bit too much (shocking that's even possible) -- seems as if the chicken is loaded with Old Bay/chili powder. While crunchy with a juicy interior, the overload of seasoning is a bit too much. Would suggest to tone it down a bit while maintaining the crispy exterior. The fries were good, but similarly seasoned with chili and Old Bay, which made it all a bit much. Price: 3/5 Quality: 3/5 Quantity: 5/5 Service: 4/5 Atmosphere: 4/5 read more

They finally opened a Daves location in Albany. They're originally from California and have been expanding their restaurants in the east. Knowing that they finally opened a restaurant here, I had to go try it out! The location very close to University at Albany, plenty of parking near the area too. The store itself is also fairly big. It is very crowded as of todays date because the store just opened and everyone wants to try it out! I had to wait around 30 min for my order and food. The service was great! They had people giving out free stickers. There was a person helping everyone with the menu before they got to the register. I recommend getting Dave's number 3 because it comes with sliders, tenders and the fries. You get to try everything if its your first time! In case you haven't had your fill of fried chicken, Dave's Hot Chicken in Albany offers the Capital Region yet another option. Dave's hails from L.A. When I read that Canadian rapper Drake was so impressed with the recipe that he invested in the company, I wanted to try some myself. I ordered online on a Saturday just before dinnertime. It was hardly an original idea, but I sure was glad that I ordered ahead. When I arrived, there was a long line to place orders. It snaked all the way to the entrance. Fortunately, there's a separate line for pick ups and I avoided waiting. I ordered a chicken slider and a side of Mac and cheese. The slider consists of a chicken tender, coleslaw, special sauce on a bun. It was good, but I found the portion to be small. I'm petite and I don't eat that much, but I didn't find the slider big enough to be satisfying. I was so glad that I also had the mac and cheese which was very tasty. The restaurant was clean and as nice as a fast food eatery can be. At least on that evening it was a noisy, happy, crowded place overrun with families. If I had come with family, I might not have minded all of the clamor, but I was happy to have the meal in the quiet of my own home without having to cook. read more

I'd go 3.5 if I could. Got my food to go. Place is modern and industrial-looking. Appeared clean. I ordered a tender and slider combo with a medium spice level. Didn't wait too long. Almost $18 for the combo and a drink would have been extra. The chicken was good quality and more than enough. I could have done without the fries as I'm not a fan of crinkle-cut. The pickle slices are excellent. Not racing back but it was ok, though pricey. read more

I ordered a medium #1 (two tenders, fries, white bread) and also checked in on Yelp for a free chocolate milkshake. The food came out very fast and the woman at the cashier was pretty friendly too for the various questions I had. It is very spacious and pretty clean inside, and there is retro hipster-esque art painted on the walls. I was in the mood for some spicy chicken but I guess I should have gotten a higher spice level. Having never been to a Dave's Hot Chicken before, I chose the medium spice since that's usually a good benchmark at other places, but it was not really spicy to me. There was a lot of seasoning on the chicken, but it seems the seasoning is just on the milder side, so if you're looking for spice, get the hot level or even higher. I was also a bit disappointed that aside from not being spicy, the seasoning was also on the sweet side? If not spicy, I was hoping for some salty/savory fried chicken but it had a more sweet profile instead. The size of the chicken tenders were pretty big still, and the meat itself was tender and moist. I also thought the crinkle fries had a great crispy outside with the perfect soft potato interior and I liked the seasoning on them, but they also started to taste a little sweet to me after eating them for a while. Overall, the food was decent, just not the flavor profile I was expecting when coming to a hot chicken place! read more

This was my first time trying Dave's Hot Chicken. And I can't say I had a bad experience. I ordered the 2 Sliders with Fries. The fries were not amazing. They were definitely something I could eat, but I did find them a bit flavorless. The "Dave's Sauce" that came on the side helped that quite a bit. That sauce was incredible. It's obvious that they are making a copy of the "Cane's Sauce" from that fast food chain, but that was a good thing. The sauce was super creamy and had a very unique flavor compared to sauces you could get from other restaurants. The sliders were a decent size. They both had a good size piece of chicken which were obviously the same thing they use as their Chicken Tenders. I ordered one of the sliders with the Mild flavor and one with the Medium. I only noticed a very very small amount of more heat coming from the medium slider. I will in the future for sure try out the hot flavor. The chicken was pretty tender and worked with the Cole slaw and soft bun it came with really well. Now... the prices are kind of insane. For that meal it was $18. For the amount of food you get I feel like it should've came with almost double the amount of fries and another slider. I would say it came with 10 French fries overall. If you are looking to spend some money on some good chicken with really good sauce, this is a place you should try out. read more

Checked out Dave's hot chicken and found the meal to be quite tasty. For fast food this is one of the better pieces of chicken that I've had. It is white meat but juicy, it tastes like it's been brined and the breading has lots of flavor both savory and a tiny bit sweet, nice combo.
