Holy Burger opened on Central Ave in Albany, in the former Taco Bell. This NYC burger restaurant offers burgers, sliders, sandwiches, plant based sandwiches, wraps, hot dogs, tenders, cooler drinks, shakes, and desserts (ice cream, cookies). They also offer value combo meals. I stopped by Holy Burger in Albany for lunch recently. The place was moderately busy, so I placed an online order through Toast. DoorDash ordering was not yet available. I was quoted a 20 minute wait after ordering on Toast. I walk up to the counter at my scheduled pickup time, but was told it'll be ready soon. However, my order was ready to go, 20 minutes after pickup time with some orders after mine getting completed before my order. The kitchen was very busy, but not very organized or efficient. A couple folks from a nearby car dealership actually waited longer than me for a large order and they were also missing a few items (they checked their bags before leaving). Anyways, I was given a bottle of Boylan's Ginger Ale at no charge for the long wait. The 2 Spicy Chicken Wrap Combo ($7.99 plus tax) with crispy fries and small can of Shasta ginger ale were very similar to the McD spicy chicken snack wraps with a breaded chicken tender, spicy sauce & lettuce in soft flour wrap. The fries were nice & hot, crispy rough texture outside. The Chopped Cheese Sandwich ($8 plus tax) had plenty of grilled chopped beef with American cheese, holy sauce on a soft toasted bun. Other than the very long wait, I would probably come back again once the kinks are addressed and order the Holy Burger and a strawberry milkshake.

Holy Burger is a Halal restaurant with a full handhelds menu including burgers, chicken, cheese steaks, hot dogs, and fresh deli sandwiches. Excitingly they have a full vegan menu, and gluten free menu which includes many of the regular menu items but in plant-based or GF versions. The interior is fun with street art style tags on walls including a cool Albany one behind the registers. The employees were really courteous and friendly. I ordered online and my food was ready when I walked in. I got the plant-based burger which can be ordered as vegetarian or vegan for the same price. I assume the burger is the same type or Beyond or Impossible plant-based meat patty regardless of which you choose but the sauce and cheese would be either their vegan cheese and vegan holy sauce or the regular cheese and traditional holy sauce. I do question the bun, maybe I should have received a GF bun as I am sure it would also be vegan but I think I got their traditional bun which seemed to be a brioche style bun which typically contains egg. That said, it was a crazy good burger! The spicy vegan chick'n snack wrap, I probably would not reorder. The chick'n pieces were small and dry, maybe over cooked? I am looking forward to going back and trying some other plant-based options including the plant-based chopped cheese, hotdogs, tenders, turkey sandwich, loaded fries, or an ultimate brownie! They have vegan mayo, vegan holy sauce, and vegan peri-peri. I am sure they will have some growing pains as they get themselves established but I imagine Holy Burger will make its mark on the Capitol Region in the coming years.

PLANT BASED BEEF CHOPPED CHEESE (ROLL-BUN)

I went through the drive through for a quick bite as I was craving fast food lol. When I saw online that they have plant based options, I was ecstatic. The drive through menu doesn't show the plant based options so I had to confirm and they do offer them. I got a plant based chopped cheese. I waited for about 12-15 minutes in the drive though. There was about one person dining in and I was the only one at the drive through around 6pm on a Monday night. I'm glad that I have the option for plant based fast food. I would say that it was doable. My bun was a little charred but I was starving so whatever. I guess I would come again if I'm craving a greasy bite to eat. Keep in mind that during the 12-15 minutes I was there waiting, I watched them prepare the doordash orders coming in before ever starting mine so I would give another star if I didn't wait as long as I did for a single item.

I loved the Rabe C, broccoli rabe, fried eggplant, provolone and hot pepper spread. Great flavor combo and a pop of heat from the pepper spread. My wife enjoyed a delicious roast beef wrap and my daughter enjoyed a vibrant pasta salad. All that plus a local orchard sparkling apple cider! Almost forgot to mention, the woman working behind the counter was pleasant and the staff were all professional. I can see why it's a local favorite!

First off I'm not sure what food people in these reviews are eating, because in my experience the Italian mix sub was very bland, the bread was dry, and the meat looked pale and weird. That ambience of the place was nostalgic which is the reason why I gave it 3 stars and not 2. The woman helping me was friendly enough but made it a point to tell me how gas prices were fine at $4.10 per gallon as long as Trump was the president, which annoyed me because it gives an indication that details don't matter here. Given the taste of the $15 small sub I paid for it definitely tracks. Be your own critic, but for me it's the history of this place and not the food has people coming back. I won't be one of them.

Some notable changes I noticed during the most recent visit include a big flat screen TV and tables and chairs indoors. The freezer apparently was out of order, but I would have loved to get their tiramisu which is also one of the best I've ever had. Their sub always strikes the right balance in the dressing, bread, meats, and toppings. Toppings are consistently good quality, and you can customise your sub by asking staff what you do and don't want on it. I hope they stay healthy and busy for decades to come.

My only complaint is that after ordering what I believe was the regular-sized sub, I was still a little hungry. That said, would I recommend it? Absolutely. The food was tasty, fresh, and satisfying. Would I return? Definitely. The price point makes it more of an occasional treat for me rather than a regular lunch spot, but it's worth it when you're craving a quality sandwich. (Certainly a lucky neighborhood) It looks small from the street but once you walk in, it opens up to a sizable store. We were greeted by a friendly staff member, he took the time to describe their cheese selection and the other things going on in the shop. He then pivoted to giving us tons of help selecting the right cheese. We sampled a couple of things and then he dialed in three choices for us to buy. (With an assist from another customer that insisted that we would love the Delice de Bourgogne) Prices were reasonable enough for the quality. We added some gourmet crackers that were neutral enough to not overpower the cheese. The next day, we made the three cheeses the focus of our lunch. The Delice de Bourgogne was the star of the show, a creamy, earthy, and savory masterpiece. The two year aged Gouda and creamy blue cheese were delightful as well!
