This place was truly a gem. Forget about the cute, expensive, hip brunch spots that don't fill you up after eating, this place truly satisfies your stomach. Ever since I found Cafe Java, my family has been here at least 3 times in a month. I loved everything about this place: from the refreshing and rejuvenating coffee smell, the kind staff, the huge delicious plates of food, to most importantly, the affordable bill in the end. My go-to orders are the California omelette, the Iron man omelette, pancake, and french toast (ALL SO GOOD). I wish this place had online reservations, so I don't have to worry about the wait on the weekend. read more

This place was packed at 9:15am on a Saturday. You sign your name on the list kept on a spiral notebook and they will call it, smaller parties (mainly 2) have an advantage. We waited about 20 mins max but the aroma and people watching made us patient. People here really like to make friends. While we waited, four different strangers struck up conversation. As to the food and beverage. Iced tea was weak and watery. Not a nice start. However, the food was good and so was the service. The employees here work as a team to take care of the customers. What a great place to eat! Nostalgic austin feel great customer service. Me and my 3 sons went for Sunday brunch and it was delicious. I had steak and eggs my son had some for breakfast sandwich the other one had pancakes with eggs and bacon and all the creepers good hot fresh. Not to mention while you wait you can get a cup of coffee perfect. The gentleman getting everybody and was very friendly very funny and just a great time definitely will return. read more

Even though they have multiple locations, Cafe Java is a quaint neighborhood joint that is a great place to grab some breakfast, lunch or simply a good cup of coffee. The seem to treat their employees well as the servers and even the people who bus the tables have been remained throughout the years. The food is consistent and the menu has a wide selection that has something to offer for everyone. I enjoy the pancakes, omelettes, migas plates and sandwiches. I can honestly say that I've never had a bad meal at this or any location. The coffee beans sourced from many international places with specific descriptions to help you pick the one that is right for you. When you go, it may look like there is a long wait if you see many groups waiting outside for their tables ,but never fear, the waitlist goes by pretty quickly and you'll be at your table/booth in no time. It's also a good place for families with young children as their service is friendly and food is very prompt. It is also a good place to stop for coffee if you have a few minutes to wait before you get your nails done at Tegan's Nails in the same shopping center. (Also a great place for nails!) This place is a well-oiled machine that hopefully will continue to be a staple of the community for years to come. read more

I am all about quality diners (then again, who isn't lol #sorryDennys). My sis and I came here this past Saturday morning and our whole experience from the host to our waitress's welcoming vibes to our actual food to our busboy kindly taking our plates was honestly awesome. I got the The Java which was 2 eggs, 2 bacon, hashbrowns, your choice of toast or a biscuit, and coffee or tea. I also got a side of French Toast cuz why not haha and my sis got the Biscuits and Gravy. All in all, we were both so glad we found this little gem of a place, especially since it was hashtag so goooood and away from downtown where a lot of the good breakfast/brunch places tend to be these days. 5 stars. This small neighborhood gem was a hit for me! The wait was about 20 mins, not too bad for an early brunch. They have a coffee bar for those coffee junkies wanting to get their coffee fix on the go and where you pay out at the end of your meal. I ordered the County Omelet not aware that I would double the hash brown intake as the omelet already defaults to has browns and toast!m; but nonetheless I enjoyed my omelet which came with hash, sausage and cheese! You also have a choice to sub for egg whites for the health conscious folks out there; I will try this on my next visit. My boyfriend subbed his omelet and his looked and tasted very healthy! We ordered the flavored lattes with a double shot which had just the right amount of sweetness yet still taste the bold flavors of their espresso. Our server was fast, attentive and excellent! I would definitely recommend this place if you're a breakfast/ brunch lover! read more

I really want to give them 3 stars but this is such a great small town restaurant i cant do it! . We drive 38 minutes to get here... Ordered huevos rancheros Over Med Well - waitstaff (very nice) she clearly wrote OMW... Eggs came very runny... We were very nice and asked if they could heat them more.. That they didn't have to remake entire plate.. plate came back with very runny eggs... The side of tortillas never came... We gave up and took to go.. We would have been fine with anything cept very runny... We do not have crazy high expectations by any means. read more

We found this place after church one Sunday and waited about 20 - 25 min for a table for 2. The place was packed but you can tell they are VERY EFFICIENT. Staff clearly all work together to get everyone in and out. We received our food on time and everything was hot. My husband had the BLT and I had the French toast 2x2x2. Everything was really solid and for a great price! I wouldn't recommend this place for super large groups, but I'm sure the my could make a large group happen. I appreciate the speed and quality of this meal and would definitely recommend to anyone staying at or near the domain. For both my husband and I it was $23 dollars. I love that they had sugar free syrup and grits that were cooked properly. Thank you! The only reason for not giving 5 stars is nothing blew my mind...but that doesn't mean I won't be back. Ohhhh myyyyyy Me and the wife just moved to Austin and this is the first yelp I'm leaving after trying many places! (Including moonshine patio bar and grill which is amazing!!) This place deserved a 5 star immediately! It was so amazing from the moment we walked in. And the food came fast and looked so amazing that we didn't take the usual social media pictures. Although we did take one of the hot chocolate This is a must try! We're here on a Thursday at 11am and all of the tables are pretty much taken. It's that amazing! Keep it up Cafe Java! read more

Cafe Java has that local neighborhood diner vibe. Got the ultimate migas ($9.50) here and the dish definitely lives up to the name. For its price it is a truly massive portion that is just not huge but also delicious at the same time. Love the two fresh tortillas they give you on the side so you can construct your own breakfast tacos. The hashbrowns are super crispy and the refried beans are some of the best I've ever had. I could barely finish all the food and a couple of my friends had half of their portion leftover that they just took back as leftovers. For the price the ultimate migas is probably one of the best deals in Austin and you'd be sorely missing out if it has never graced your mouth. read more

food is really great and i love the homey atmosphere they have. pretty cheap considering how much food you will get. I got so full from eating my dish plus a pancake. i didn't know how i manage to finish most of it; my stomach was basically dying inside me. funny moment though: the waitress who was in charge of my table kept mentioning us to finish our food. at first it sounded like a funny joke, but towards the end, when's she saw that i didn't finish a pickle, i got a feeling that she seriously wanted us to finish every bite regardless of how we felt. maybe i was over thinking it, but that's what i felt from her. i chose to ignore it during my time there. I give it 4 stars mainly because of the affordability and quality of the food. You can't really get the same quality with the same price as some of the biggest breakfast chains that exist (ie iHOP and Denny's). read more

Been coming to Cafe Java for a while now! It's definitely a great spot for some good comfort home food!! My husband and I almost always get their ultimate migas, best hashbrowns and frijoles ever, and you can't forget to get a side of pancakes!! Banana, blueberry, whole grain, ect! Soooo good! They have a lot of options for coffee, but we usually just get their regular coffee and it's really good! Very laid back place. Their service is almost always on point! Some waiters and waitresses are sometimes tooo chill and they hardly check up on you. Something they could definitely improve on! Other than that, if you're coming in on a weekend, expect to wait 30-45 min or more, they're always packed because their locations are small, but soooo worth it! read more

Food may be good. I wouldn't know. I went in for a quick pick me up. Ordered a cortado, which is my go to drink to get a feel for cafes I've never been to. I knew I wasn't going to like it the second the "barista" buried the steam wand in the pitcher and just let it sit there. The espresso tasted burnt and there was no foam or creaminess to the drink whatsoever. The workers didn't seem very friendly either. But at least I gave it a go. Now I know. read more

HASHBROWNS HAVE BEEN FOUND IN AUSTIN!! I've been searching for great basic breakfast/diner food since I moved here and that is just what this is. Fantastic, fair priced, delicious. They are one of the only places that serves actual shredded hash browns in Austin. Their sourdough tuna melt was one the best I've had. Great service, chill casual vibe. First time back at Cafe Java in too long and not one thing has changed, thankfully! I had the California omelet with sprouts, tomatoes, avocados with turkey added. Omelet was splendid and large enough that I took half with me for later. Hash browns were crisp and not greasy. English muffin was nice and toasty. Perfect cappuccino. The wait for a table at 11:00 a.m. was about 40 minutes. Service was friendly and solicitous. This is the perfect breakfast spot and they offer breakfast all day! read more

Great place for breakfast. The coffee is the best in town! Wondering tradition American breakfast (eggs, bacon & hash brown) an some of the best breakfast tacos in Texas. Look on the board when you come in for what specialty coffee of the day is being served. You also can't go wrong with the house coffee. It's also a great place for lunch or a lite dinner. I can't even. This place rocks! The food was really good, service was good, and even the pricing is good!! We tried some breakfast platters. Mine was just eggs, bacon, and a pancake. Wife's was migas and she asked to replace the bacon with their faux meat and it was soooo good! My pancakes were banana flavor. You can't see the bananas at first sight but they were on the underside and boy were they delicious - cooked perfectly .. caramelized! Parking is plentiful but the place is small so be ready to wait on weekends and busy times of the day. (brkfst, lnch, dnnr) I can't wait to try this place again. We didn't even try their coffee!! Even if you come here for brunch and find a long line, Cafe Java provides a self-service coffee station for your wait. I've tried just about everything on the menu - the tacos, sandwiches, all-day breakfast, desserts. I have never left feeling hungry and dissatisfied with my dining experience. I have only left feeling warm and happy. One thing I love about Cafe Java is the rotating specials menu. Every day they have a few entrees, a side, a soup, and a coffee special. The more trips you make to Cafe Java, the more you will see this place as a local treasure. They are consistent and solid, with surprises and delights. I've been living down the street from this spot for years and never went in--can't believe I've been missing out until now! Such a quaint and authentic restaurant! Affordable menu items. Dine in was pretty busy even during these times. I ordered a Togo omelette with a latte and it was yum. They serve all menu items all day as well as rotating daily specials that they post on their social media platforms. This is a great spot for people in the north austin area and I'm totally going to be a regular here. Better late than never! It would be great if they started offering online ordering too. My server made the experience! She was the sweetest person, super helpful, and made the hunger pains go away. This place could easily be 5 stars but they told us the wait was going to be about 30 minutes and it ended up being over an hour. If we would've known we would've dipped out. So word to the wise, go early on a Saturday or Sunday if you don't want to wait! The inside is very cute and cozy and not too bright so it does wonders for a hangover. The food is just some good old fashioned diner food. My only food complaint is that my grilled cheese (The Wisconsin) should have been cooked a little longer for more melty, ooey-gooey toastiness. Absolutely loved their fruit bowl though! We'll be back and you should try it out too! read more

Their burger is easily one of the best I've had in Austin, especially paired with their thin, crispy fries. It's my go-to order almost every time. One thing I love is that they switch up the steak portion of the menu a few times a year, and it never disappoints. Right now they have the steak au poivre, which is incredible, although I'm still craving their steak frites and hoping it makes a comeback. The escargot and French onion soup are also favorites of mine. At this point, June's has become a staple in our house--usually with a couple of Diet Cokes and either the burger or whatever steak they're featuring. A few of my friends swear by the chicken sandwich (fair warning: it can get a little messy!), the half roasted chicken, and the tuna crudo, so you really can't go wrong no matter what you order. On top of the amazing food, the staff is always incredibly kind and welcoming, which keeps us coming back. We ordered the prima dora omelet which would have used more filling but it was over all good, the black beans we ordered in the side , we possible the best black beans i've had. The hollandaise sauce was a bit bland but I used the yellow bird habenero salsa and it kicked up the flavor profile- Overall we really enjoyed the food, service & vibes!

There's no big sign on the window indicating the restaurant's name, just a plastic A-frame sign outside the building's doors. When I got there, four of the eight tables were empty but the dirty dishes had not yet been cleared. It took close to 10 minutes for the tables to be bused. Because the kitchen is so small, I'd recommend going up to the counter to order as soon as you get there. I believe you can also place your order online using the QR code on the table, but I didn't try that method. I ordered the lox n found, a toasted croissant roll with smoked salmon, avocado, dill ricotta, arugula, onion, and capers. The menu says it also comes with a side of roasted potatoes, but mine didn't come with that. The sandwich was delicious and filling, so I definitely didn't need them, but I do feel like I didn't get what I paid for.

Cafe Java used to be my favorite spot but every time I go there and sit at the bar and have to look at the lady that works in the kitchen handling food without washing her hands after being on the phone, it makes me sick. Not only that but I have seen her before coming out of the kitchen yelling in a derogative language at her co workers. I don't know for what reason they keep her around when she doesn't care about the restaurant image. I am bilingual and can understand every single word that comes out of her mouth and it is disgusting. I asked her name to one of the servers and I was told her name is Dhalila. I came here the weekend of the fourth of July to do a bit of homework and get away from the hustle and bustle of Southern Holiday excitement. And boy did I luck out. This place was air conditioned (PLUS!!) and not too crowded. It offers a great breakfast menu and is completely organic. I enjoyed a smoothie as well as a slice of German chocolate cake as I fully took advantage of the free wifi. The manager introduced himself to me and mentioned that they are opening a new desert cafe and that I should check it out. As I was paying I joked around with the cashier, some may call it Southern hospitality while I call it excellent service. Great place for breakfast lovers! This is a greasy spoon, where everyone that works there is as friendly as f. They love their clientele. I feel like if there is an introduction to Austin & a place to encapsulate Texas hospitality - this is it folks. We ordered some soft beef taco and the hill country Sunday special. I didn't think breakfast food could be much different from ihop with regular egg, biscuit, and hash browns, but it was actually pretty impressively good! I would say the tacos were just okay, I would say, but I ate it the next day because it was a lot of food. However, I really love how the atmosphere of the restaurant. Completely blown away by how friendly and thoughtful the staff is at Cafe Java. I just ran into grab a quick cup of coffee, the guy at the register asked me what the best thing that happened to me all day was, and I told him that work went pretty smooth so I was pleased about that. He then said "well how about a free cup of coffee" and gave me my coffee for free. I've literally never had a bad experience at this place, and they clearly go above and beyond to earn customer loyalty. It's obvious that they truly care about each person who walks through their doors, which in this day and age, seems to be pretty rare. Highly recommended! read more

Love this place. This is my go to place for brunch and it is the best in Austin. It usually gets crowded though so expect a wait of 20-30 mins on weekends. The servers are really nice and friendly and they work real hard to maintain that old style diner atmosphere where you actually get a check that you take to the cashier and pay. Food suggestions - the Cajun chicken sandwich and the short stack of pancakes are my go to with a cup of black coffee. Check it out once and trust me you will fall in love. read more

This place always seems to be buzzing with life, which can be good or bad depending on what your dining preferences are. It can get a bit cramped in here from all the people, but overall, it felt cozy to me. The staff is very friendly and helpful. While they do have many good deals, some items are a little bit pricey for what they are. Definitely check out the daily specials they have up if you like trying new things. read more

I heard good things about this place, so I gave it a try. They are too freaking busy for the small space they have. There was a long line just to pick up my order. The staff seems to barely be keeping up with the workload-- it was very hectic. I'm glad they clearly have loyal patrons, but my omelette was bland. I liked the hash browns-- saved only by my own seasoning. read more

I love the coffee here, I even bought a piece of cake the other day that was off the hizzie fo shizzie! U don't hear me though!!! My wife & I recently discovered this little gem on Metric and we love it. Great atmosphere, great food, & great prices. I had the pancakes the first time, they were big fluffy & delicious! Today I had the corn beef hash, hash browns, eggs, & toast. Breakfast served all day always a plus. FYI... They close at 3:00 on the weekends. read more

"It was very good, but it didn't blow my socks off." The wait was only 5 minutes at like 2pm on a rainy day and the food came out in like 5 minutes as well! Super efficient service. Tasty food. Good value for $7. It's in a little nook like Jason said and the atmosphere is great. Others at the tables raved about the corned beef and the special that day. Employees were attentive and smiling a lot. Everyone seemed happy. Busy on weekends though, so know you will wait. Worth it= yes! read more

That kind of attention feels thoughtful and rare, especially for a counter service spot. They have a nice selection of iced teas including herbal tea and flavored green tea, plus beer and soda. It feels like more of a brunch / lunch place but it works for dinner too. This isn't a place where you come away saying "you have to order this one thing." It's more that everything is done well across the menu, which makes it easy to come back and try something different next time. I can't speak to the other locations, but this one was great.

It was absolutely delicious. For my sides, I had the vinegar-based coleslaw and the jalapeño cornbread stuffing. The coleslaw was outstanding, some of the best I've ever had. The stuffing, however, was disappointing. It lacked flavor and had an unusual texture, and the addition of pecans just didn't work for me. Everyone in our party was extremely happy with their meals, which says a lot considering we all ordered something different. The dessert menu was almost overwhelming because there were so many tempting choices. We ended up ordering the sticky toffee pudding, pecan pie, crème brûlée French toast, and the pistachio ice cream pie. Every dessert was delicious. My only criticism is that the pistachio ice cream pie seemed overpriced since it was essentially pistachio ice cream served in the shape of a slice of pie. Nothing over $27. The dinner menu is about the same, but some items are close to $50. One thing I was glad to see, which most restaurants no longer do, is to start off with a complimentary basket of warm bread and smokey oil. We started with their brussels sprouts and their shrimp appetizers which were excellent. We moved on to the various dishes on the menu. All were well plated and perfect for the average appetite. I got the pizza which was well made and large enough for me to take 3 slices to go. After the meal, we were handed a very extensive decadent dessert menu that no one in Austin can compete with. Once those desserts hit the table, that cinched the 5 star review. The leisurely lunch service was on point. They have the right formula working for them here which explains their long running presence. Keep in mind, this place is popular, so you'll need to make a reservation for those special holidays.
