Cafe Cusco is my favorite restaurant in town. I'd never tried Peruvian food before coming here, but now I love it. The location on C-Street is great, the service is always good, and the decor is attractive (I especially like the curtains at the door and the semi-private booths). Although some of the entrees cost more than I'm used to paying in Springfield, they're worth it. Some of my favorite dishes are the Escebeche Wahoo, Sudado de Pescado, and Aji de Gallina. Their hot sauce is fantastic as well (and not too hot, which I like), and they have many great options for vegetarians. read more

I ate here when I first move to Springfield, it's been somewhere over a year now. I remember getting a traditional Peruvian steak and eggs plate. The Steak came out perfectly rare. I'm not much of a steak guy but that was a lovely steak. I may have to go back there today..Just thinking about it makes me hungry. Again like most of my favorite places in Springfield everyone was warm and treated me with the grace and decorum they seem to treat anyone who walks through their doors regardless of my celebrity status to them I was just another kind stranger. Wow, just wow. In town for one night and found this on Yelp. Beautifully renovated space. Imaginative menu. Loved my Lemon basil margarita. I had the Puka Picante which was enormous, could only eat half. Husband had the Arroz with chicken which was fabulous. So much food for the price. I wanted local cuisine, not some doo doo chain restaurant. The only complaint I have about this place is that there isn't one near my house. However if it was near my house it would be a chain and the food would turn into doo doo suck. So don't make the mistake of going to a microwave dinner shithole like Applebee's, treat yo self to some nice, local, freshly prepared, vegan friendly fusion locale like anyone who doesn't live in 1970! Wow! What a great find while visiting Springfield. I had vegetarian tamales and friend had the goat burger. The masa on my tamale was delicious! One of the best that I have had. My friend loved her goat burger too. Apparently they grind their own meat, which is really great so they know exactly what is in it. I also really loved the feel of the place. Not quite sure what everybody raves about . Ok, the building and the decor are amazing. I loved the stained glass and the original wood details. But I'm not sure how that goes with the whole Peruvian theme. In my opinion, save yourself the trouble and get Nelly's Peruvian food. At least it'll taste good and be authentic. We got the 3 potato fries. All of them very overfried in old oil and the accompanying aioli mayo was bland. The ceviche was horrendous. It lacked the lime flavor that allows the fish to ferment and was mostly inedible. The arroz con pollo was ok but nothing to rave about. I ordered the trout but for some reason the clueless waitress thought that it was the sandwich variety so I had to sit there and watch the rest of the table eat while they took their time making the dish I initially ordered. The final insult came when I ordered the Pisco Sour and mentioned to the bartender that it didn't taste right and wasn't foamy. He replied that they were out of egg whites. Umm, ok?! So why would you charge the full amount for a drink that is missing one of its key ingredients? These people need to go back to the drawing board and really look at their recipes and their preparation methods because right now, this place is as far from authentic as Springfield is from Peru. read more

Another great add to the growing C-Street. First of all.. A restaurant that carries all local and Missouri beers is on my A list. They carry Mothers and even the Boulevard Smokehouse series, (sixth glass, tank 7 etc) kudos. That a lone will keep me coming back. Then the food, it was amazing. You must enjoy spices, that's where most of the flavor is. I loved it. The ambiance for a date night was perfect. I will be back. Never had Peruvian food before; liked it. The Pisco punch was excellent; want another one now! Tried the fried avocado on recommendation from review I read. It was not what I expected (I was thinking battered, deep fried--wrong!), but good. I would never have thought of cooking or heating avocado. I did not care for the crawfish bisque; again, my expectations interfered; I grew up on Cajun style and this was not it. I also ordered, the caprese salad with shrimp; really tasty. Had the cheesecake and coffee for dessert; wonderful. I would definitely love to go back and explore more. My take away opinion based on this experience is Peruvian is a bit exotic (new to me!) and yet appealing and this particular restaurant does a first rate job. read more

Yes, Yes AND Yes! I was lucky enough to wonder into Cafe Cusco totally by accident. I was looking for a place to have lunch, that didn't offer only sandwiches, not to pricey and potentially offering a gluten free menu. We were in the middle of Springfield, Mo, it was the middle of the week and the middle of the day, so I wasn't too hopeful. But how fortunate for me! Before I get to the food, I recall driving by and thinking to myself that as soon as we park, I'm going to make sure I walk back and visit that place! The outside looks like a cafe straight out of the movies! The drapery decorating the door, flowed to the light breeze blowing on this warm August day, just made to feel like you had to enter. The view looking inside from the window was comfortable and inviting. Walking in, the overall ambiance and decor of the walls, tables, booths, and bar area made it difficult to choose where to sit. I knew I was just visiting the area and honestly walking in I wanted to sit and experience each section. But we had to choose one table so my husband and I choose a table near one of the big windows. So now on to the food! The menu was very simple, but pleasing. It offered a little of everything. Remember, it was the middle of the afternoon, so I wasn't seeking a heavy meal. There was a variety of appetizers and lunch offerings of Peruvian flavored, vegan and gluten free meals. I was excited and wanted a taste of everything. I apologies, I can't recall what we ate, because its taken me a few months to write this review but the experience is still very fresh in my mind, fond memories of a wonderful eating experience. I do remember that the food was tasteful, fresh and just plain delicious! Generally, my husband pays more attention to prices and he was happy to see that all this ambiance wasn't going to cost him an arm and leg. I don't fuss over the menu prices, only the check if the overall experience and food is bad. But this is not the case for Cafe Cusco. The customer service at Cafe Cusco was wonderful; again, it was quiet, around 2 to 3PM and a weekday. The waiter took time to address how the meals were prepared, ingredients, as I expressed some difficulty in deciding what to eat. I was excited and wanted to try everything. The waiter explained the overall history of the restaurant and how it came to be in this out of way place in the middle of Springfield Missouri. Don't worry, he wasn't too talkative, I inquired. If you are in the area, please make Café Cusco one of your places to eat. I most certainly will visit them again. I know it will be well worth it. read more
