pulled pork, baked beans, cheesy corn #yum #ReviewsByRL
Raena L.

We came for lunch 10.29.23 and caught it just before what might have been the after-church crowd, so wasn't busy when we got there, but then filled up. My two friends and I each had the lunch special of pulled pork sandwich(comes with slaw on it) and choice of 2 sides -- chose the baked beans and the cheesy corn, both that also have bits of meat ends in them. I also tried 3 of the 6 sauces on the table - -and appreciate the way they were labeled and described. Everything was very tasty and I was going to pack some up but instead I ate everything. #yum #ReviewsByRL

Burnt Ends Plate - all fat

Disappointed that I couldn't eat half the burnt ends as it was so fatty. Don't recommend it. I should've ordered the pulled pork.

This is for North location. With a heavy heart I write this. I hate writing bad reviews. We went in to try a few items on the menu . Getting ready to use for wedding reception. I actually told the hostess that (and owner). I ordered brisket dinner and side of burnt ends. Added slaw , baked beans, green beans and one piece of catfish. Visited with both owner and young girl while they were preparing food and said I wanted to try little bit of everything. Got home and order was screwed up. Had two orders of burnt ends. No biggie things happen. HERES is the PROBLEM! Burnt ends were so fatty that half of it was fat. See pictures. I've had burnt ends at several other joints. They never looked like that. Half fat. Removed all fat took some pictures and decided I couldn't stand it. I called and spoke with owner . She said that's what I ordered and that is what burnt ends were. I asked if I could come back and pick up brisket tomorrow..... she was irritated, busy and basically said she would call her husband and have 1/3 pound at front . I appreciated that but I'm the one that suggested it. I don't usually post bad reviews. I can't imagine trying to have a restaurant. But this experience was not what I'm used to when a business gets something wrong . I paid in full for all the food , paid an additional 3 percent cause I wanted to use credit card and finally another couple of bucks to girl who took my order. Fail fail, fail . The beans were ok. The slaw ok but not special and the burnt ends were so gross we didn't eat any of them. I didn't go get the beef cause I really felt like I deserved a call back when owner wasn't busy. One positive was the $ 3.00 piece of catfish she cooked for me. It was very good. I've had their brisket before from other location. I would stick to that but this joint if off my list because of conversation with manager. They messed up. She should have made it right. Not worth my time to go pick up a little beef. You lost a customer and a catering job. 1-10.

Two meat plate, cheesy corn, green beans

Decided to try this place based on the previous ratings and the convenience to the hotel. I placed an order over the phone. The person was seemed very inexperienced, and was rushing through the order. When I went to go pick it up, I noticed the restaurant was not busy for a Wednesday evening. The person taking the order and working the front register was a teenager.... (Hence the poor service). The food was accurate and looked very mediocre. As mentioned in other reviews the brisket was sliced extremely thin and looked steamed. I definitely wouldn't come back here for bbq. It's just not what a good bbq should taste like.

I take it that they're popular! Glad I already finished my ribs & brisket!

Don't be fooled by the ambiance and decor. Not a fancy place, but good solid BBQ at a reasonable price. Quick, friendly service

Always come here for tenderest ribs and decadent, super creamy potato salad. Choice of 6 sauces at the table. Can't lose.

Has anyone tried the brownie? Thoughts?

Yes. It might be the best thing on the menu sadly. Definitely better than the meat.

Do you serve hamburgers per the way customer likes made? I like mine medium rare....made like that?

No, I'm sorry we do not serve hamburgers. We only have a smoker at the restaurants.

They took my order right away and let me enjoy a ginger beer while the magic happened inside. The curry chicken dinner player came with steamed cabbage accented with some bell peppers and a side of rice. By all accounts, this was probably too much food but for the price it was an absolute bargain! This plate was loaded with so much flavor I forgot that I was sitting in the corner of a parking lot. With the palm trees swaying to my side and the sun shining, I was transported to the island myself! The amount of options on the menu is enough to make any customer happy. Whether you're looking for healthier options or that authentic jerk spice that Jamaica is known for. Great portions and options if you're on a tight budget or if you just want something outside of the Springfield norm.

It's a fantastic lunch spot and not a far drive from downtown. I've had rice bowls, the pastas, and some sandwiches. My favorite is the creamy jerk chicken pasta. The food truck is nicely decorated and has a good seating area, perfect for a nice day. The owners are wonderful people and put a lot of love into these dishes. When I say large, I mean it is massive. You need at least 2 to 3 people to eat the sandwich. Even if you took a quarter of the sandwich, you would be good to go for a meal. Often sometimes we will eat a quarter of it and take the other piece home after we split the whole thing in half. The soups here are phenomenal. They are made from scratch and they go fast. OH, and don't let me forget about the chocolate cake. It is wonderful! I try to get a piece every time I come. I believe the chocolate cake is homemade. Definitely a must have! The restrooms are well-stocked and usually pretty clean. The staff are pretty friendly,, with the caveat being that when the owner is checking you out at the register, he can be a bit prickly around the edges. Your main problem here will be finding a place to park if you go during a normal meal time. We usually park in the neighboring lot and walk over to the restaurant. Don't sleep on this place. It is SO good! Check it out for yourself next time you're in the area. You won't be disappointed.

J. Parrino's Queen City Deli -- "More Than What Meats the Eye"…read more It's no wonder why J. Parrino's Queen City Deli is more than what meats the eye. The name behind it, Joe Parrino, is a renowned St. Louis restaurateur known for blending Italian tradition with classic St. Louis-style soups, sandwiches, and pastas -- and that mix absolutely shines here in Springfield. From the outside, you might not think much of it. But as they say, IYKYK. This is definitely not a book to judge by its cover. Tucked on the east side of Sunshine, it's the kind of local gem you'll want to keep in your lunch rotation. I started with the Milo Salad, and wow -- thick cuts of salami and pepperoni, fresh cheese, crisp lettuce, crunchy homemade croutons, and a perfectly sliced hard-boiled egg. The dressing took it to another level -- creamy like Caesar but with a tangy vinaigrette twist. Honestly, I almost forgot to take a photo because I couldn't stop eating. And that garlic breadstick? Fresh, soft, and buttery perfection. Next up was the Parrino Special, their house sandwich -- prosciutto, salami, and incredibly tender roast beef stacked between garlic bread buns and topped with a house salad. Every bite was a dream: the crunch of the bread and salad with the tenderness of the meats created layers of flavor and texture that just worked. Pure happiness between garlic bread. The team here is friendly, fast, and full of good recommendations -- you can tell they care about what they're serving. If you're looking for a local spot that nails the trifecta of soups, salads, sandwiches, and pasta, Queen City Deli might just become your new favorite lunch stop.

LOUD AF on a Tuesday night with incredibly slow service…read more I like to eat in local places while we're on the road. Read about this place being historic with a beautiful bar and lovely tin ceiling. And that is all true. Walked in and could not believe how loud the single singer with an acoustic guitar was. There was a sound engineer, working a board, so he must've thought that level was OK. But you could not have a conversation at all. I was wishing for earplugs. When we first stepped in, I considered just looking at the carved mahogany bar and going somewhere else. But, we figured it should be fast and we could endure the cacophony for a short time. We were so wrong about it being fast. There was only one wait staff working that night, and she was also behind the bar. When she finally moseys over to us, she admitted she had forgotten all about us. She then took our drink order, and the drinks came quickly. But then she literally never came back to take a food order. Watched her go to all the other tables, watched her clean off the bar, watched her answer a phone call for a takeout order, and then I finally went up to the bar and asked her if we could put in a food order. Once the food was ordered it came out quickly. My husband's smashburger and candied pecan salad were both really delicious. I am a sucker for a local food item whenever I see it on the menu, and I made the mistake of ordering the cashew chicken poutine. The cashew sauce had zero flavor and was just overly salty. The chicken was fried very tough. At least the cheese curds were good. But I barely ate any of it. Nothing but regret about this choice.
