Was really looking forward to this place based on reviews We took a group and all were disappointed Beautiful building and nicely decorated but the food was a huge disappointment. Beef in fajitas was very tough and chewy. See food was fried to a crisp,ost of the other dishes ended up being largely French fries in place of potatoes.... Ambience is nice. Staff is polite and service is fast. Only complaint is the bland taste of the food. For being Peruvian restaurant the food has minimal taste. More made for American tongue than actual Latin person. Had the steak and seafood nekkei salad and the meat was very bland. Fresh. Every dish I've tried at Cafe Cusco has had a uniquely clean and refreshing taste, from the civeche to the black bean and quinoa burger. I love their commitment to alternative diets, offering both vegan and gluten-free options. I was also pleasantly surprised to find some decent Boulevard beers from their Smokestack Series amongst their otherwise bland beer selection. The atmosphere is stellar. The music and the decor set a fancy yet comfortable environment. The mix of bright colors and white accents set against dark wood booths and floors deliver an appealing contrast. My only complaint was a relatively uninformed staff. I'm sure that new restaurants always present a number of challenges for new servers. Learning a new menu can't be easy--particularly when that menu consists of fairly exotic foods. But the servers at Cusco were repeatedly and overly apologetic for their lack of knowledge. What an unexpected surprise on a cross-country road trip. Lovely atmosphere, solid cocktails, and delicious food. We were especially pleased about the range of vegetarian and pescatarian options on the menu. We ordered the tilapia and the chupe grande de mariscos (spicy seafood stew, similar to a gumbo -- amazing). Portions were very generous, ingredients fresh and well prepared, and the husband even consumed half a bottle of the homemade hot sauce! Service was great, and the owner even stopped by to chat and make sure we were enjoying our dinner. We would be regulars if we lived nearby! Absolutely worth the detour off the interstate. I absolutely love this place! I have eaten here on many occasions and have tried their goat burger, sweet potato noodles, and a few other dishes. The atmosphere is fantastic! The booths have extremely high tops for added privacy. Also everything on their menu but about 3 items are gluten free or have a gluten free option. They are extremely accomodating. Their wait staff are are so extremely knowledgeable about their menu. Due to dietary restrictions, I have to eat gluten free, dairy free, and soy free. They knew off the top of their head what meals I could switch to or make changes to accommodate my needs. I also had plenty of options to eat at this restaurant. I'll start with the pros. The interior is stunning. To call the seating areas a "booth" feels almost shameful. It's hands down the most beautiful restaurant on C Street. Our tequenos appetizers were amazing Now with the cons: the menu is overwrought and needs to be pared down. My brother and I both like to try new things so we ordered the goat burger based on our servers recommendation (it was lunch). We both agreed it wasn't good. The bun was a hard Italian style focaccia which seemed weird for a Peruvian restaurant and didn't do justice to the soft fried egg or the tender goat meat. The texture of the goat burger was so finely ground that it was almost mealy. And then I bit into a giant piece of gristle which made me call it quits. Despite my less than stellar experience I really hope this place stays in business because it's so beautiful and the staff was incredibly friendly. read more

A delightful dining experience. Cafe Cusco served us a delicious and unique dinner. We shared a pasta pesto...the pasta was cooked to perfection and the Peruvian pesto with walnuts was sublime. We also ordered a the "Puca Picante" (sp?), a potato, corn, beet and peanut dish. It was truly delicious. Service was friendly and prompt, portions were very large (enough for nextg day lunch for us both). The facility is immaculate and very comfortable. I had great expectations. I spent some time in Peru and have a few Peruvians friends and anytime I find a Peruvian restaurant in a town... I will give it a shot. I did like location, the decor and the server was nice. But the food was lackluster. All-inclusive meal quality... we had the Chicha Morada (my fav drink) and saw the server making it from a pouch... Disappointing. I ordered the Lomo Saltado and it as was more reminiscent of a Chinese beef dish. My dad ordered Pesto Pesto pasta... it lacked flavor. And the portions of the chicken on a stick are laughable. Our favorite part was the fried yuca. But wouldn't go back for it. read more

The wife and I went here for Valentine's Day. We had a table upstairs in the back of the restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. Askinosie Dessert was great! A little too much cinnamon, but delicious none the less. Although it was fairly crowded, we still had good service. When our waiter got a little busy, the owner began to take care of the refills and help out. They were thoroughly prepared for the night. We came early, at 6:30. And at 8:00, when we left, there was a waiting line out into the street. So. It was very busy. We made reservations, so had no problems. The Lomo Saltado is one of my favorites! But for those less into crazy spices and flavors, there's plenty of yummy milder options on the menu for you, too. I'd give this many more stars if I could. Such an amazing place with food so tastey I'd put it in a feed bag and hang it around my neck so I could eat it every second of the day. I personally got the scrumptious Arroz con Pollo, another friend got something yellow and chickeny which tasted like candy, and my other friend got pork and rice.... or something similar.... and I'll be damned if I didn't want to steal her plate, too.
