After having enjoyed their original and much smaller location for breakfast and lunch, we decided to try the new larger location for dinner. We went on a weeknight. The restaurant was packed but we were quickly seated and received quick and efficient service. My husband and I both had burritos, his with steak and chorizo, mine with chicken and chorizo. We were both impressed with the amount of nicely-spiced filling in each burrito. I highly recommend trying anyone of the dishes that includes chorizo. There's is nicely space with ample amount of warm heat but not overly hot. The tacos and salads that past our table all looked incredible. Café Bueno is a great place for a leisurely weekend meal or a quick weeknight dinner. read more

If you're in or around the Frederick, Maryland area this is a must stop. The food is as authentic as it gets! The burritos are all good, and they will custom anything. Excellet spot to grab Mexican food with a pretty standard variety of Mexican foods (tacos, burritos, etc). I ordered the Al Pastor burrito which was excellent. I could've done with a few less pineapples but didn't impact the overall taste or experience. The burrito itself was medium sized and well made. I would've expected something larger for the price but b/w the ambiance and great service it's worth it in my opinion. The absolute best part about this place that so many Mexican restaurants don't do is provide you with three different sauce bottles that were mild, medium, and hot. The staff were incredibly polite and the place was packed for lunch which ensured that my friend and I were at the right spot. Husband & I were here from out of town. First don't expect a margarita-NO alcohol or beer. It is nothing fancy by any means. Four booths & 4 tables surrounding the carry out counter. It was seat yourself & we grabbed the last booth. The server was very attentive & we both ordered fish tacos that came with rice & beans. I was still a little skeptical in spite of the salsas being very tasty and obviously homemade. We got out food & the fish in the taco was whole with cabbage & radish on top. Lacked a little flavor in spite of the cilantro dressing. Was is worth the $10? Yes. I think it's a good local restaurant. Still wish they had margaritas. My girlfriend was craving Mexican food so I took her here. Place was packed but we got seated quickly. Order was taken and food was served promptly. Food was delicious! We liked the ambiance as well. I would die for cafe bueno. Everyone who works here knows who I am, and when I call they say "you want your usual?." I call the meat specials weird meats and always want to try someone exotic, they cook the lengua better than anyone. I still give them 5 stars because I love their food and service. The ONLY issue is that they've taken ground beef off the menu. GROUND BEEF. Even Taco Bell has ground beef, and they aren't truly considered Mexican food. read more

We love this place. We have been going to Cafe Bueno since it first opened in its former location. The food is amazing. Most importantly, the staff are so warm and welcoming. After a horrible experience in another restaurant today, we went to this restaurant and decided to order to-go. We were greeted immediately even though they were packed. Tacos for lunch? Let's see what yelp has got to say. This little Mexican joint on 5th Street in downtown Frederick is not bad if you want something cheap and quality. I'm giving this as my first 4 start cause honestly, I've had better taco experiences. Tacos are life and when you don't make every aspect of your taco delivery 100%, you ain't gonna make the top of the charts. New Cafe Bueno location : 15 tables, only 20 minute wait on a Saturday evening, no TVs and very small bar , Extra charge if you want refills of chips ($4.50)... never heard of that in a Mexican style restaurant. Food is good, but nothing outstanding (bland, no avocado with tacos, not even Mexican cheese). Maybe food went a little downhill since change of location. This place is amazing. I had a huarache with pastor that was one of the best things I've ever eaten, Mexican or otherwise. The salsa roja here is fantastic. The 10 year-old said that they chicken and cheese quesadilla was the best he's ever had. The ambiance is hole-in-the-wall; don't come for the decor, come for the food. Highly recommended! read more

I think four stars is fair for now. We stumbled into this place by chance, like, "hey, let's try this place." Good stuff. We came in right before closing so we got our first order to go. The chicken/chorizo burrito. Yum! And the fish taco, which was good, but not as good at the burrito. Evidently they make their own chorizo here and you can tell. We went back again and this time got the chicken/chorizo and the steak/chorizo tacos......very impressive. We haven't ventured further yet. I can vouch for the chipotle salsa. The last trip, I saw they are moving across the street to a bigger location. They need it. It was a small seating area and the times I've been there it's pretty full. Staff is friendly. I've been to Nogales, Acapulco, San Antonio, et al. It's probably the most true, Mexican burrito you can find in Frederick. There's other good places in town, but that is one good burrito. read more

Don't be fooled by the fact that it's beside a 7-11 and a laundromat! I really love this place. It's reasonable priced and their food is really good. From what I understand, it's one of the more authentic Mexican/Latin American restaurants in the Frederick area (or so I'm told from a friend born in Mexico City...). The other nice thing about them is their quick and friendly. I can place an order over the phone and it'll be ready within 15 min. Cafe Bueno is definitely one of our spots for tacos, burritos, tortas, and much more. read more

Ohhhh my!!!! What a great find. I was looking for some good fajitas and these guys are legit. The Alambre Fajitas (Steak, Home Made Chorizo, Ham and Chicken) is one of the best Fajitas I've ever had. We have been going to Café Bueno for about 8 years and always enjoyed our food. First time at the new location last month and we were excited to check it out. The food as always was great. Service was fine. Could not enjoy the meal because it was so darn loud. Why the need to blast out-of-tune radio at a dining establishment??? Asked the server to turn it down but we did not notice a difference. Very sad we won't be able to converse with friends at one of our favorite Frederick restaurants. :-( read more

Service good, however the food we had was mediocre. Fajitas were over seasoned and almost pasty and seem like they had been cooked for a while (before the order). Defintely have had better fajitas at most of the mexican restaurants I've been to. My wife had huevos chorritos and said it was ok, but not great. They do, however, give you large servings which is nice. read more

We've always loved Cafe Bueno. But this review is for those of you interested in dining during COVID. Seating is outside, on picnic tables, with umbrellas to shade you from the sun. We were there today, on a Saturday, and had no problems getting a table after 6pm. Margaritas were so good. Tamale special was on point. Ordered azteca burrito, steak tacos, shrimp/steak fajitas, bueno burrito, it was all delicious. Waiter was friendly and attentive. Parking was easy too. Lots of people were doing curbside, but we enjoyed eating onsite. Sorry no pics this time...I was focused!! read more

Mexican food is not authentic just moved from California and nothing close to the Taquerias by the border. I guess its mexican food to the locals in Frederick lol. It's just okay. We went on a Saturday night and they were very busy. We were seated right away. I wasn't a fan of the salsa and chips and the guacamole was $7.49 for a very small portion with a small batch of chips. We ordered the spicy pork burrito which was very good but it came out warm at best Service was just ok too. This place gets great reviews and the food at the original location was always great. I was very disappointed to say the least. Maybe we just picked the wrong night to go. We'll try it again. read more

Not even sure where to start about how good this place was. I guess the only bad thing I can say about this place is the location could be better. As soon as you walk in the staff is very friendly and welcoming. It is a small mom-and-pop type place which has a charming feel that at any moment you're waiting for the regulars to come in like an episode of cheers. The rice was perfectly cooked light and fluffy and the beans were also cook to perfection with a nice creamy texture.I had the tacos chips salsa queso and guacamole. All of which were fantastic The shells and chips were all freshly made came out hot and crispy. Everything was well seasoned from the meat to the queso. If I ever get a chance to get back in the Frederick area I will definitely re-visit try something else. read more
