The fajitas were bland. I'm not sure if they put any seasoning on them at all. Got rave reviews about their burritos from other diners at my table. Also - be aware that they charge a 3.5% transaction fee if you are paying with a credit card. They should probably have that posted more prominently on their website, menu, and receipt as this is a very uncommon business practice for restaurants. read more

Service is always excellent (and speedy, too). In other words, if you are hangry and need some tacos- this is the place. It is on the bigger side, too- so good chance you can get a seat without reservations. And it can accommodate bigger groups. Margaritas are large and they have many options. I don't mess around with- I get the Cadillac. The queso is thin but coats the chips - the way I like it. Fresh salsa w a little kick. We had the enchiladas - chicken was my fave. The spinach had no flavor- needed salt at minimum. I also love the interior- it's bright and vibrant - read more

My wife and I recently went to Plaza Mexico for a weekend lunch and had a solid experience-good service, reasonable prices, big portion sizes, and delicious complementary chips and salsa. I got the asada sopes which were solid, although the beef was a bit tough and overcooked. However, I liked the sopes base, the refried beans, the lettuce and the parmesan cheese. read more

In town to see relatives and needed a reprieve. Stopped here for a beer and some nachos. Everyone very nice. Up beat music (not live). Ate the chorizo nachos. Very good. Snake Dog IPA delicious. Very happy. Will come back next time I'm in town. read more

I ordered takeout, three tacos. I was quoted 30 minutes, but it took a full hour for my meal to be ready. It was the perfect storm, taco, Tuesday, and Cinco de Mayo! The restaurant was hopping busy and the staff was doing the best they could to accommodate everybody. Once I got my food and got it home, I enjoyed three delicious tacos and some rice. It was packaged well and stayed warm until I got home. I love the decor inside the restaurant, I love how well the staff works together to serve their customers. read more

Super cool atmosphere, surprisingly not very busy on a Saturday night. Complimentary chips & salsa were great, also got some guacamole and queso. We were worried about the queso cause it didn't seem very thick but it was delicious! I was disappointed with the spinach enchiladas though, they were pretty plans. Tasted like microwave spinach with no seasoning in maybe gluten free tortillas, definitely didn't taste like traditional corn or flour tortillas. Queso on the top didn't add enough flavor, wish the spinach would have been sautéed with some seasoning and mixed with cheese or something. Chicken enchilada was great, didn't skimp on the meat at all. And they didn't hold back with my spicy margarita, used fresh jalapeño and kept the seeds in it! I won't write this place off yet, would be a great spot for a happy hour but I'll try something different from the menu next time. read more

This restaurant is huge, and they offer both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor patio sits right off the canal, and the view is beautiful when the weather is nice. The portions are huge, and the elote and tacos are great! I acknowledge that we went on a busy Saturday afternoon, but service was a bit slow and it took us 20 minutes to flag down our waiter and get our check at the end of the meal. read more

We've been here several times because we live in the neighborhood, hoping to get something that is really good we keep trying different things. But we we've always been disappointed in the quality and the taste. Here is an example...the enchiladas, extremely dry inside. No sauce, no flavor the outside had barely a shred of cheese. Do not get the enchiladas here. I will say there's salsa is very good.I would recommend going in for a cocktail in salsa. read more

More people should know about this place.... It's tucked away on a little square inside a planned community, so it's not exactly on the beaten path. But it's gosh darn delicious! With reasonable prices! A nice little bar, and outdoor dining. I don't remember exactly what I ordered, I just remember that I was very happy with my meal! I know, that's lame..... read more

Plaza Mexico Restaurant - Street Tacos - Mexican Near Me - Frederick, Maryland

We had an extremely disappointing experience from start to finish. After being seated, we waited approximately an hour and a half for our food. During that time, we were repeatedly told that it would be "right out," but it never arrived. We had planned activities after dinner and ultimately had to cancel those plans because what should have been a late lunch turned into a nearly two-hour experience. Three people at our table ordered drinks, and two of them were served in the wrong size. When our food finally arrived, every meal was cold, including the plates. To make matters worse, the items on our receipt did not match what several of us had ordered. One member of our party was completely skipped when orders were being taken. While this did not contribute to the delay, it was frustrating and made her feel overlooked. We later learned that our waiter was new, which we could have understood and been patient with had we been informed earlier. Instead, we were only told this after numerous issues had already occurred. When we asked to speak with a manager about our concerns, the manager refused to come out to the patio. We were told we would need to go inside the restaurant to speak with them. After already spending nearly two hours waiting for food and dealing with multiple problems, we did not feel it was reasonable to wait any longer, so we paid our bill and left. The waiter relayed that the manager was offering a $25 gift card as compensation. However, after the experience we had, none of us were interested in returning. Even then, the discount applied to the check did not match what was shown on the receipt when it was brought back. We understand that mistakes happen and that new employees need time to learn. However, the combination of the excessive wait, being repeatedly told our food was coming when it wasn't, incorrect drinks, cold food, billing errors, poor communication, and management's unwillingness to address our concerns directly made this one of the most frustrating restaurant experiences we have had. read more

They hosted a graduation luncheon for us and it went really great! Ordered: Michelada with Pacifico: always great! Lime salad with chicken: chicken was grilled and hot! I never like cold chicken on a salad. The toppings (fried tortilla strips, avocado, pico) were pretty good. Coronarita: frozen margarita with a small corona beer. It was pretty good as well. Our server was very helpful and attentive yo the entire party. Will go again! read more

This is a very busy place on a Saturday. They have a huge outdoor seating area and a huge indoor seating area. They were sufficiently staffed, so our server was great. We opted for the indoors. The food was pretty good. We ordered street tacos, avocado salad with shrimp, and enchiladas. Everyone was satisfied with their choices. Overall, it was a good experience. read more

I was craving some Mexican food, which is nothing new, so we decided to try this location. It was our first time at a Plaza Mexico, so wasn't sure what to expect. The location is nice; seems like a newer development. We got there around 830pm and we're seated right away. I wanted a margarita so opted for the guava drink they had, which was overly sweet, and I disliked. My husband got the smokey mezcal margarita and really enjoyed it. I liked the chips and salsa. We ordered birria tacos and the steak street tacos. The food came out really fast. The birria tacos were good, but the tortillas could've been done a bit better and cooked longer. My husband enjoyed the steak tacos, but I thought the steak was lacking flavor. Service was mediocre. I felt like it was bare minimum and could've been better. Overall, not my favorite spot and unsure whether I'd return since I've had better Mexican food in the area. read more

This is hands-down, my favorite Mexican place in the Frederick area! They offer indoor and outdoor seating as well as seating at the bar. Staff is always welcoming and I am usually seated pretty quickly. I've gone for both lunch and dinner as well as have ordered for pick up. Service is always very fast and efficient. Food is delicious and the menu offers quite a variety. I wish that they offer a tangible lunch menu, however, it is available online. My go to is usually the ground beef taco salad or the pick 2 lunch or dinner combination with a cheese and beef enchilada Both come with rice and beans. The food is always fresh and hot salsa and chips are always served Unlimitedly. This is my go to for affordable, good food, good margaritas, and quick service! read more

When I go to heaven and turn on the tabs, I am definitely going to see the seafood dip that they served at this restaurant. The dip was creamy smooth filled with delicious shrimp bits of crab cream cheese, sour cream, all in an umptious, delicious, warm bowl we split the Arroz Texans This is a dish that came with everything you want in a Mexican meal, rice, steak, chicken, seafood, cheese, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, avocado, and two tortillas. The tortillas were warm. The Tex-Mex mixture was perfectly rich in flavor.. The restaurant overlooks the mini river in the middle of the city, and we could hear the concert that was being played from the plaza close by her. A perfect evening for the perfect meal. read more

We've been to Plaza Mexico three times over the past few months and every meal has been amazing. The service is great, the atmosphere is colorful and comfortable and the food is delicious! I've tried a few vegetarian dishes like the burrito loco and the veggie quesadilla and both were amazing. However, my favorite item on their menu is the table side guacamole... it is so bright, delicious and full of flavor, I highly recommend it! Cheers to the good people at Plaza Mexico, I look forward to my next meal there. read more

The food was basic, mild flavors nothing too exciting to write home about. Came on a Saturday evening and I think the bar tender was overwhelmed. He was also our waiter and I could tell it would take a while because he was running around like a chicken with his head cut off trying to serve multiple tables and work the bar. I got the mezcal Paloma and it was picture worthy but taste wise I didn't feel like I was in Mexico. The grapefruit soda in the drink was flat. Also I ordered enchiladas normally those come with a little bit of pico and sour cream on the side, but not here. $2 extra for a side of each. The pico was dry and lacked acid and salt. I was told before drinks were good and food was just okay. After my visit though I discovered the restaurant physically is pretty and that's where the high notes end. read more

Served flour tortillas for one guest when told server of gluten allergy and requested corn. Ordered burrito al pastor - awful!! Refried beans not black or pinto. Disgusting pork - chewy and grizzly! First time here. Food was very good but customer service was severely lacking. Slow wait staff, never returned to fill water, one of the 5 orders was messed up and came 15 minutes after the other 4 orders. And the restaurant was nearly empty. Our favorite Mexican restaurant! Food and drinks are always on point. House guacamole is the best!

Beware y'all: nachos with chicken and beef comes with chips, meat, an embarrassment of iceberg lettuce, a smushy pour over of "queso," and some sad smears of refried beans. THAT IS IT. Like a sad gas station nacho provision on the Vermont/Canada border. Do not expect any kind in any meaningful flavor in anyway. No Sabor. No Texture. But: An ROI On expenditure re emotional eating ~ 13 bucks plus tip etc. I will annihilate this sad offering because #feelings. But please don't follow my suit. PLEASE DONT. read more

My friend and I came on a Friday night and we were seated right away. Our waitress (I never got her name) couldn't be bothered. I could never finish my sentence or request before she would walk off. One star for bringing us fresh hot chips, but the salsa was just okay. Nothing to brag about. I ordered the carne asada and my friend got a steak taco and cheese quesadilla. Portions are on the smaller side than what I am used to at other restaurants such as Guapos and uncle Julio's. I was disappointed in the lack of flavor for my carne asada and im used to carne asada made with skirt steak. The steak was thick and gave me pork chop vibes. The tortillas were unimpressive, thin, and felt like I was eating store bought tortillas vs homemade. My friend ordered two drinks and mentioned they were strong so I guess that's a plus for people who like their alcoholic drinks strong. read more

January 2024: Ever have one of those days when, after work, you don't want to cook, you just want to go to a favorite restaurant and relax? That was me today. We drove in to Frederick to the PM out near Wegman's (a favorite). It didn't go well. I decided I wanted a mushroom quesadilla, but mistakenly said "cheese quesadilla". After the waiter left my wife pointed that out so I went to the register where he was and told him. He said I couldn't have that. That threw me off...I didn't understand. I have had many mushroom quesadillas there. I was just telling my wife maybe we should just cancel and leave and the waiter came up. He said something about a cheese quesadilla and putting mushrooms in. I was rather confused by this time, but I didn't want to cause a scene so I said that was fine. They brought the food but honestly I was stuck in simmering mode and just wasn't hungry so I didn't have anything. I later asked for the check and they had removed my plate from the bill. I told them it was fine I am happy to pay for what I ordered, He didn't charge me for my plate but I added it to the tip amount. I didn't want them to bear the cost of my order. We've been coming here for a couple of years now, and loved the food. But it must be time for change. I know this will not matter in the long run, and that is fine, but this is the last time I'll go there. We've been noticing that staff just don't seem to be as friendly as they used to be. The whole thing was just the proverbial straw. read more

Food was hot, fresh, and flavorful! Portions were huge and everyone had to go boxes. I loved the salsa as it's lime and cilantro heavy. The choriqueso and jalapeno poppers were also amazing. My Arroz Texano hit the spot, especially the massive shrimp! They were juicy and cooked well. The margaritas were also incredible - I recommend the pineapple jalapeño marg. Service was fast and pleasant. Interior is updated and comfortable. The only feedback about the visit was the music in the dining room. I wasn't personally bothered by it, but they were playing hardcore, uncensored/unedited rap on a Sunday afternoon with children present. Some of the music was truly explicit which can make for an awkward environment when in mixed company. Nothing like bopping to "Wet Ass Pussy" or "Pound Town" next to your pre teen niece and great aunt Marilyn. read more

I thought our server was really good. I left him a good tip. Apparently he thought it wasn't good enough and he changed it to a greater amount. I come from San Diego, and I can tell you that this is authentic Mexican food! The carne asada is delicious. The Chorizo fries, or as we call it in Cali, "Chori fries" are outstanding. Well let me start by saying- we love it here. We have a family of 7 and everyone leaves happy despite whatever anyones mood- we usually order mock-tails for the kids and margaritas/ Paloma mazcal, table side guac, a steak burrito, chimichanga, quesadillas, steak/ carnitas tacos, nachos, mixed fajitas and tamales. Absolutely everything has been delicious every time. I love that the drinks taste like they're made from scratch and the service is attentive but sometimes they do get busy either way we'll keep coming back. Always ask for extra hot salsa. read more

Great food at reasonable prices. The dishes generally come out quickly and hot, with excellent taste and an enjoyable atmosphere. However, the service is hit or miss.
