CHICKEN TINGA ZANEY and brisket taco
    Abby S.

Stopped into agave 137 on a Sunday evening. It's a seat yourself situation with 3 small tables outside and plenty of inside and bar seating. The complimentary chips and salsa were the best I've ever had, the salsa was smoky and the chips were dusted with salt and flavor. We ordered one of their specialty cocktails I think called circus flare? And a spicy margarita. The specialty cocktail wasn't my favorite as it just tasted like spiked sunny D, but the marg was delicious. I ordered the quesadilla Americana with chicken. It is the same chicken used in the chicken tinga taco. The meat was soft, tender, and moist. However I found it to be quite spicy and because of this I could only eat 1/4 pieces :( my friend also found her chicken tinga taco to be spicy as well. When we brought it up we were told they were changing up the recipe. The pork taco was excellent and the fish taco was a 10/10 very crispy and flavorful. My favorite item was the street corn, creamy and tangy I would eat that everyday!! We sat outside on their patio, it is shaded and great for people watching. Aiden was our server, he made sure our waters were always full and answered all our questions. He also gave great recommendations. I recommend agave 137 and will definitely be back!

We stopped by Agave for lunch and found a quaint little bar restaurant. Not many people on a Sunday afternoon. Agave was a nice little place with a good menu of reasonably priced tacos and other foods. Ala carte menu that had varied items to select from. I tried a rockfish and jerk chicken taco. Jerk chicken was spicy and flavorful. The rockfish was fried perfectly and the jicama slaw was a perfect complement. Bottomless chips and salsa was a great topper for our lunch. The bartender was attentive and friendly. All in all we enjoyed our visit. The downside was the heat was out and it was quite chilly.

Chorizo taco and braised brisket taco

The food: The queso dip and guacamole were fantastic! However, I recommend the chef consider heating the chips up before serving or even make them fresh ‍, this would really compliment the outstanding dips. Tacos: Ordered chorizo tacos and the brisket tacos. They were absolutely delicious. The chorizo is a classic Mexican chorizo with the Smokey flavor I was looking for! The chef did not skimp on the filling. The braised brisket was also tasty, I wouldn't say it was "special" but, more of a comfort food. Loved the pickled (or maybe lime marinated? ) onions on top Now, if you are looking for "special", try the Korean taco! A little sweet with a lot of heat. Very delectable! A taco standout! A couple of very small issues, food was served on the coolish side and the corn tortillas really needed to be heated. This was not a show stopper for me, as i scarfed them down! Other stuff: The yucca fries are also a standout. Seemingly hand cut and served hot and fresh! Dip these in the queso or guacamole!! The street corn was freaking phenomenal but, I was a little taken aback that it is served on the cob. I'm used to this in Mexico, but at a sit down restaurant it might be nice to have it off the cob or maybe served with a knife... or a boatload of wet napkins! My face was all up in it!! I had the street corn facial The drinks: The skinny margarita was perfectly prepared. Very fresh tasting lime, not sweet with a Smokey mescal (i think?). The black salt rimmer is a very classy addition! Also, I really like the high end cocktail glass...very nice addition The bar: talk about a tight ship, this place is very well run with excellent service. The bartenders were all very quick with service and plentiful with the smiles and warm demeanor. Everyone was constantly working to keep everything stocked and ensure that customers were serviced quickly. I was super impressed with the team work here. Overall impressions: Our waitstaff was phenomenal! Natalie kept in constant contact with our table, checking in to ensure we had everything we needed and in general adding pleasant conversation for our experience. Other waitstaff helped out and were also very pleasant to interact with. We will definitely be back and i highly recommend, especially if you can catch happy hour. Really great HH specials!

Stopped in on a Tuesday night around 630. Not many patrons. Self seating. Server was nice but the 1810? house drink was trash. All mixer. Onto the food We had an array of tacos and the carnitas was too salty to eat. I realize this is a salty dish by preparation but it was inedible. All, I mean all, of the tacos tasted like the seasonings were mixed up and did not pair well. All of the meat was terrible. I did not finish one taco, only tasted. We paid and left. Won't be back. Shame. Great location, decor and atmosphere. Food and drinks matter, especially when that's what you sell.

We went here last night and really good addition to downtown Frederick. I had the shrimp taco - outstanding! My son had the brisket nachos and I stole them when he was done because they were awesome. We had a tequila flight and it was also very good. My daughter and husband had various other tacos and all really good. We are looking forward to coming back. Of it was extremely quick service so kudos to kitchen and waitress. There was also live music. Highly recommend.

Opening weekend! And it was In the Street, so it was pretty chaotic. But it went better than we expected. After some inital miscommunication between the host and the server, everything came out quickly and accurately. I had the Pinkman Paloma, which was excellent. And they use grapefruit soda instead of grapefruit juice, so it's safer for medicated people! We also ordered the queso blanco, yuca fries, chorizo taco, rockfish taco, and shrimp taco. The shrimp taco and yuca fries were the best. We felt like everything else could use more spice, but it was all still tasty. Excited to go back when they have their full menu up and running, especially for happy hour.

Guac, nothing special, way over priced, small portion

A friend and I checked this place out for happy hour for the first time yesterday. Inside is really cool, I like the decor and updates they made since it was Taco Daddy. The happy hour specials are pretty great as far as the $3 tacos and half price drinks (which made their margaritas between $5-7). I would highly recommend the Smoke on the Water or Sweet and Spicy margaritas. I tried 3 tacos, chicken tinga, rockfish, batata. They come served on two soft corn to tortillas. They were all good, no complaints but very basic. If tacos is this restaurants "thing" I guess I just expected...more. But for $3 I would return for happy hour. Paying the full price though seems a little steep to me. They also don't provide chips and salsa, you have to pay for it. 7$ for chips and salsa that are free at most places seems steep. The true disappointment was the guacamole. At $12 we thought it should have been better quality and it's really a small portion. 0/10 for the quac it taste like store bought. In conclusion: I would return for happy hour, minus the quac, but I wouldn't seek it out beyond that. 4 stars because the margs are delish, but they aren't very strong.

My girlfriend and I were in town for the weekend celebrating her best friends bday, so we went into town when we got in looking for a place to eat and stumbled upon Agave 137! The ambiance in here is really cute, lots of tables set up for 2 and big tables, so this is definitely a good spot for dates or big groups! We started with the chips and queso, which was delicious! The queso was super creamy and the chips tasted really fresh. For the entrees, I went with three of their tacos (Korean, chicken, and carnitas), her friend went with three tacos (2 carnitas and a chicken), and my girlfriend got the steak and yuca! The service was super quick even on a busy night!! The tacos were LOADED and super flavorful, constructed perfectly, and very reasonably priced. My girlfriends steak was cooked a nice medium rare and was served with a large side of yuca fries and green beans! I was absolutely in love with the yuca fries and kept snacking off of her plate! I highly recommend coming here!

    Churros. Supposedly.

Probably the worst restaurant and food experience we've had in years. First, we walk into the restaurant and the wait staff seemed surprised to see us there - likely they were expecting us to go to the bar since thats what all the patrons did after us. No one greeted us, so we asked where to sit, and after a few confusing moments we were directed to a booth. The waiter seemed like he was unsure of what to do and after hovering for awhile and asking way too many questions allowed us to look at the menu. It was happy hour, and margaritas are supposed to be half off, but when asked about frozen margaritas they said they weren't included. Perhaps it was too expensive to work the blender to crush the ice instead of just serving it on the rocks? Seriously, how stupid. Food - truly awful. We ordered six different tacos and the dip trio. All the tacos were cold and very basic and unflavorful, and kind of wet, like school cafeteria sloppy joes. The queso tasted simply of melted cheese, not queso, had no flavor. The guacamole was poorly made and the salsa had an off flavor, possible beans? Lets just say we've gotten better queso from the frozen food section at the grocery store. And the piece de resistance - the churros. I rate my mexican restaurants by the churros. These were fried probably two days ago, not tossed in any sugar at all with a dash of cinnamon on top. They tasted like a foot. Seriously. They made a nice "bonk" sound against the dish, like a piece of wood. So, good for a drum solo maybe. All this can be yours for the low low price of $60. Enjoy.

Great spot for tacos! I visited with a group of friends and we all order from the a la carte taco menu. Great selection and so good! Table was served with chips and salsa which was ok. However, the drinks/cocktails were perfect! The waiter was very friendly along with the rest of the staff. Depending on the night there may also be live music.

Good service but food was OK. Some of my food came out cold. Probably wouldn't come back for food. Drinks were good though.

Also, we had a dozen oysters and when we finished we realized we were one short! ha ha! The main dining room is absolutely gorgeous with the stonework and architecture. The bar area was very busy as we were on the tail end of their happy hour. Our server walked us through the menu. We started with the ravioli appetizer. It had shaved truffles on top and egg yolk covered in Parmesan cheese. They almost had a little crunch to them and the inside was filled with ricotta cheese. The sides are à la carte as is most of the menu. I ordered the tavern burger. It came with beef fat glaze among other spreads and was very well seasoned. The side of beef fat fries were also well seasoned and crispy. The best dish was the pot roast. It was so tender and the gravy was so flavorful. This paired perfect with their creamy mashed potatoes. The service was decent but the food and atmosphere was absolutely amazing. They have a huge variety of cocktails and wine. It's a bit more formal Dining. It doesn't require a jacket or anything.

We received fantastic service from start to finish, from being seated right at our reservation time to our server answering our dietary needs questions to our dishes coming out in a timely and well-paced manner. Wye Oak's ambiance being set in a former church/religious institution is unique, providing an interesting ambiance. However, the food left much to be desired. While the presentation on every dish ranged from good to amazing, out of the seven dishes we shared only 1.5 of them were delicious. Some of the dishes were bland and one note; others were overcooked or overseasoned. We shared the following dishes: Coddies: While the cod was perfectly cooked and breaded, it had no flavor. The cauliflower tartar sauce added nothing to the dish; the cauliflower giardiniera at least added some nice crunch and acid. Savory Parmesan Cheesecake: The cheesecake had no flavor; the acid and freshness of the cherry tomatoes of the arugula pesto could not elevate or salvage this dish. Cheese Ravioli: By far the best dish of the evening. The ravioli tasted fresh, were nicely cooked, and the cheeses and sauce were delicious. Smoked Beet Pastrami: The beets were well-cooked and fantastically seasoned, complemented perfectly by the dressing. However, there needed to be more beets and a better beet-to-funnel cake ratio; while the funnel cake added some nice crunch, there was way too much of it and did not do much for the dish. Brussels Sprouts: Well-seasoned, although very greasy and overcooked. Broccoli di Ciccio: Perfectly cooked, but very salty. It did have good heat. House Rolls with butter: Warm and fine, but nothing distinct. I would try elsewhere if you are looking to dine out in Frederick, especially given Wye Oak Tavern's prices.

Stopped into True Standard Distilling during the Frederick St. Patty's Day bar crawl and the place was absolutely buzzing all day. As a rum distillery, everything on the cocktail menu leans rum which makes things interesting, especially when they remix classics that usually feature other spirits. I tried their take on a negroni and it was surprisingly really well done. It kept that familiar bitter and balanced profile but with a unique rum twist that made it stand out. The interior was unexpected but in a good way. They were still fully committed to a Valentine's Day theme with pink everywhere and a massive faux chocolate candy wall right when you walk in. It honestly felt like stepping into a mini Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, which added a fun and memorable touch. Despite the crowd, service was quick and efficient. The bartenders clearly knew what they were doing and kept drinks moving without sacrificing quality. Overall, this is a great, high-energy stop if you're spending the day drinking your way around Frederick.
