Cinco De Mayo was our wander this particular day. It is not epic South American cuisine, but we have been to several and they are never bad. Always good is an important status in the restaurant world! My new go-to for South American food is Flan. Sadly Cinco De Mayo doesn't have Flan. 1. The Carne Asada was good. 2. The Guacamole was amazing, big pieces of Avo, it is really solid. 3. Chicken Enchiladas were pronounced good. 4. The tacos were also good. Overall not on our going to go back again list. I can't lie I was a big hater on this restaurant because I found the name of it to be tacky and out of touch especially with their restaurants be located in predominantly white neighborhoods but uber eats was having a buy one get one entree deal so I decided to give a shot and I was genuinely surprised. The soup is wonderful with fresh, avocado, pulled chicken and little peppers. It was so refreshing even on a hot day we loved the chips and salsa which were flavorful. The fajita made with chicken was piping hot but my partner didn't like the onions or peppers as the had no flavor. I ordered the three item special with a soft taco chili, Reno, and something else it was OK the rice was a little crunchy. Our waiter was very sweet. My wife and I dropped in on our way home from an event in Boonsboro. Glad we found this place! Nice variety of draft beers served nice and cold. If you like frozen margaritas, this place has a huge variety to sample. And from what I saw on other customers table, they are presented in large, festive glasses. I opted for the pick three tacos. They were each a generously stuffed taco. The pastor was nicely spicy, smoky, and a bit sweet from the chunks of pineapple. Excellent! The shrimp were cooked nicely with a good grilled flavor topped with lots of tomato, crisp lettuce, and crema. Well balanced but more veg forward than the pork tacos (not a criticism, just an observation). The carnitas taco was flavorful, but it needed more juicy. A bit dry. I also like to comment on service in my reviews. We were greeted and promptly seat with a warm smile. Our server, Cameron, was wonderful! She checked in with us with a smile. Had a friend visit me from DC, and after visiting a local winery she was hungry for tacos. I had no idea where to go so she whipped out her phone and Yelp led us here. I love a good margarita. They have great margaritas. I love a good taco. Their diabla, pastor, and fish tacos were A1. Indoors, everyone was well socially distanced, servers masked, and they also have outdoor seating. This has to be the worst Mexican food we've ever had. Absolutely no taste whatsoever and very dry. No sauce on the items. Wife and I both had one of the combinations meals. I ordered unsweetened iced tea and asked for a slice of lemon. Never did receive the lemon. I really wanted to love this restaurant but they need to step it up, both on the floor and in the kitchen. On my first visit, I wasn't greeted even though at the moment I walked a staffer was grabbing menus from the host stand. I waited for her return but she never did. Fine, I'm relatively intelligent and have visited many restaurants before so since I only wanted takeout, I figured I could go to the bar for that. I picked up only the lunch menu from the stack on the host stand and went to the bar. At the bar I ordered the chicken quesadilla, which the lunch menu said was $8.99. My food was ready in less than 10 minutes (place was empty). Yay! Get the bill and it's over $11. Boo. The bartender said I didn't say the lunch quesadilla when I ordered. But you didn't see me holding the menu with LUNCH in big, bold letters? C'mon fam. He did offer to have them make me a lunch quesadilla but I didn't want to wait so I just paid. The chips and salsa are great! Salsa is fresh and spicy! Chips are hardy, not that bullshit that snaps in half when you pick it up. Love them! The quesadilla went in the trash. It was saltier than my mom when her novela is interrupted for special programming. I have a big thing about wasting food. I would rather throw an actual $5 out the window than food. Crazy but true. I say this so you can understand how inedible the quesadilla was that I ate one triangle and tossed the rest because I knew I'd never reheat it at home and try again. However, I tried the restaurant again the next week because I was craving Mexican again and had time to kill. This time I sat at the bar to dine in. Ordered the lunch shrimp quesadilla. It actually was pretty decent. It was falling apart and I had to eat it with a fork but the flavors were good. Large, fresh shrimp that weren't over cooked. It is smaller than the full price quesadilla but still comes with sour cream and all that. For $10 with the yummy chips and salsa, it was actually a very filling lunch. One good thing about this restaurant is they are open later than most Middletown restaurants. There is generally an open table and they have nice outdoor seating. The food has been hit or miss. Some of the menu items are good while others are just okay. The drinks are huge and they offer many flavors of margaritas. We have found if you order a top shelf margarita, they make it fresh and it is much better. This is the same for the table side guacamole. I highly recommend doing both of those. read more

Cinco de Mayo is a nice Mexican restaurant to try out if you're in the Middletown area. I grew up in Middletown and I was excited to finally see this edition! The margaritas are huge! They were pretty good, but need more tequila in my opinion. Our waiter was very nice and knowledgeable, although I do wish he would have checked up on our table a little more as there were a couple times we had empty glasses and had to wait for service. The food was very good! I ordered the fresh guacamole as an appetizer and loved that they make it right in front of the table for you. The avocados were fresh and the guacamole was perfectly seasoned. I tried several of their tacos, but my favorite was the Diabla grilled taco with grilled steak and chorizo. I have attended this restaurant many times. I was greatly disappointed the food quality had declined since the pre-Covid-19 incident. The price of food had been tremendously increased and is almost double nowadays with minor potions. I decided I would no longer attend this restaurant anymore as same of customers had enormously decreased. Several weeks ago, I had to pick up my order from this restaurant late at night, just before closing. I ordered tacos. It took me five minutes to get home and eat my late dinner. The chicken was cold and hard to chew. I did not enjoy it, threw it away, and wasted nearly 20 bucks. I did explain to the waiter who gave me the order. He just said sorry, and that is all. I did not appreciate that I was their best customer. I found another place that provides excellent Mexican food and reasonable prices. read more

Pretty typical and tasty Mexican food... nothing to really rave about but nothing to complain about either. Lots of chips and salsa. We all ordered the 3 items Build Your Own Combo meals. The enchiladas, quesadilla, chicken tamales and ground beef chile relleno were all very good. We also enjoyed the rice and the charro beans as sides with our meals. Stopped by on a whim with family and we're not disappointed. The Diabla tacos were very tasty - a nice depth of spice in the chorizo and crispness of the steak led to many great bites. My wife got chicken nachos that tasted pretty good. Service was pretty slow, even when we were one of only 3 tables in the restaurant so I can't give it a full 5, but maybe after next visit! read more

Excellent Baja style Mexican canina. The food is tasty and every menu item is made with love. You can taste it ! From someone who grew up in Mexico and also traveled the Baja peninsula you must try this little hidden secret. It's minutes from Frederick and in a beautiful part of the country side. Favorites are the shrimp avocado bowl, all the tacos are incredible, they even have vegan options for many vegetarians and vegans. Dined in here recently and ordered the Arroz con commarones. The service was good, but not the food. The dish was disappointing. Although there was plenty of shrimp there was barely any rice. Welll, t ordered the four chicken poblano enchiladas and was disappointed. Could barely get thru one. Laura was a great server and attentive I was served chips and sass right away but unfortunately there where pieces of chips in it that could only have been from the last customers. Yuk! As you can see the enchiladas were served with a bit of cold iceberg lettuce with crumbled cheese and fresh chopped tomatoes. You're gonna be grateful for the juicy tomatoes in a minute. The chicken was shredded and sooooo dry as without the tomatoes and xtra cheese I would not have been able to swallow them. The term 'sauce' is used loosely here . As you can see they look like the poblano sauce was painted on. There is hardly enough cheese sprinkled on to make polka dots much less any kind of 'sauce'. The smallest amount of sour cream drizzled over them did not help. I usually would be disappointed if my enchiladas had 'filler' in them, but in this case I would have been grateful. Save your money, Taco Bell is more edible in my opinion. read more

The worst Mexican / Latin American restaurant my wife and I have visited. Sadly, we gave them a second chance considering that we received a gift card. We first noticed that the place was empty at Noon on a Saturday. We were greeted by a kind young man that walked us to our table. We sounded like a group of ducks walking as our shoes stuck to the floor with every step. The beer was cold which was nice. The tortilla chips we got were slightly over done and had a bit of a burned flavor. We got our appetizer which was flavorless dried out chicken wrapped in deep fried tortillas. It came with sad watered down cheese dipping sauce. I got steak fajitas and my wife got a chipotle chicken bowl that she took one look at and cringed. I traded her my fajitas and was shocked at the absolute lack of flavor the Chipotle bowl had.. the chicken had zero seasoning and looked like dried out (possibly deep fried) bits of leftovers. The "chipotle" sauce tasted like sour cream... No spice, no flavor. For something that claims to have chipotle peppers in it, it had zero heat! I ate a few bites and left it. My wife's Fajitas were just as flavorless. The steak had no salt, pepper or even a hint of spice. We ended up taking this home because I thought I could fix it but later threw it out. The check was close to $60 for two meals and two beers!!! We tipped the waiter since it wasn't his fault. When were there a little less than an hour only to see another couple come in as we were leaving. I was half tempted to tell them to turn around. The parking lot was packed as others found their way to other restaurants in the area. There are plenty of other options on 40 alone if you are in the mood for Tex Mex or Latin American food. I would recommend going there instead of wasting your money. read more

I have been back to dine several times and had some disappointments. There seems to be a reduction in the staff causing some delays - in initial seating and serving. I was amused at the typical warning about hot dishes only to find they were not. Am I the only diner that feels a compulsion to handle plates after being warned? My biggest gripe yesterday was being told that I would have to pay for the house hot sauce that was previously free. That pissed me off enough that I'll probably never come back.
