Came here on a weeknight and the place was empty. Not one customer. Didn't see any workers either when I walked in. I walked to the kiosk and ordered the upside down halo halo. While I was at the kiosk, a group of three people came in and a worker greeted them with "Welcome In." I waited 12 minutes for my drink. When they called my name and I went to the counter to pick up my drink, three other halo halo drinks were at the counter for the group that came right after me. I understand that it might be more convenient to make four of the same drinks at once, but as one customer who came in first and ordered just one thing, I should not have to wait 12 minutes for my drink. Especially when there were no customers ahead of me. Plus, I saw 3 workers working there. I didn't understand why it would take so long to make. The upside down halo halo drink was refreshing. Loved the Frosted Flakes on top of the drink. The flan on top was good as well. I didn't care too much about the boba inside as it was super chewy and took awhile to chew. Overall, not a bad drink. While I was dining in, another customer came in and waited several minutes for someone to help them. No employee was at the counter. The customer literally had to try to get someone's attention in the kitchen. As an improvement, I think it would be helpful for one of the employees to be at the counter or at least keep checking now and then for customers. The place didn't close for another hour, so I can't see why they would need to start cleaning so early.
Come here for your Filipino desserts like halohalo and other ube treats and drinks. Got me an upside down halohalo or reverse halohalo. Last time got the corn maize which was good but too much corn after while
I love ube and I cannot lie and Café 86 did not disappoint. I got their ube upside down halo halo, and it was perfect for a warm, sunny day. It comes with ice cream and is packed with halo halo toppings, making every bite fun and satisfying. The best part was the flan. It's smooth and delicious. They also have a great variety of desserts and drinks, from espresso to shakes and tea, so there's something for everyone. Definitely worth a visit if you love ube.
What a rip off to charge $4.00 each on a scoop of ube ice cream!!!!!!! I asked for the vanilla ice cream to be replaced with Ube Ice Cream on the upside down halo halo and I was immediate told that " there's a charge for that" wherein back when they just opened and have a line out the door, there's was no charge. My sister wants the UBE so she went ahead with it until she told me after she paid that she was charge $8.00 for them. WTH!!! How do you justified charging that amount for a tiny scoop not even a kiddy scoop mind you. You need to revisit your pricing or else you will lose more customers.
Boyfriend brought me here for dessert after a birthday lunch. He told me to pick out wherever I want to go, and I chose Cafe 86 because the halo halo sounded good and I was in the mood for shaved ice (one of my fave desserts!), and we both enjoy ube desserts. I got the upside down halo halo, which instead of vanilla shaved ice topped with ube ice cream, it's ube shaved ice topped with vanilla ice cream. They were out of tapioca pearls/boba, so I chose lychee. I was expecting lychee fruit, but got lychee jelly instead. Once I dug into the halo halo, ngl, I was VERY disappointed. I expected shaved ice. Instead, I got a disappointing, mushy, soupy, melty mess of ube that tasted like a war broke out between pathetic attempts of shaved ice and heavy ice cream and exploded into a melted massacre. How does one even get shaved ice wrong? Boyfriend got the ube cheesecake and ube truffle. His choices were much better than mine. You know how things can leave a bad aftertaste? Honestly, the halo halo left me with a bad AFTERTEXTURE because it was so slushy in a bad way, so I ended up buying an Ube crinkle and Ube cashew brownie to get the lingering texture out of my mouth. The space is a lot smaller than expected. When we first arrived, all the seats were taken, but we got lucky when a party left after we made our order. Staff was incredibly sweet. My boyfriend wants to come back and try more Ube pastries, and said if he could, he'd buy every Ube pastry on the menu so we could try them all. I'm never getting the halo halo again here, but it's definitely worth coming back for the pastries. The ube pastries and seeing my boyfriend enjoy them so much with me is what saved this review from 3 stars, and gets 4 stars.
Cute ube themed cafe in Union City! Their drink deals are a great discount, we got the hibiscus calamansi and Thai tea. Of course, we had to try something ube flavored so we went their crinkle cookie, it was the perfect chewy texture and I loved the vibrant purple color. We went on a Sunday afternoon where the service was quick and most tables were full. I am happy to see they are open later than most places in the area too. Definitely need to try their halo halo next (:

This is tough because I've been on an ube kick and I've been wanting to try Cafe 86 for the longest time, but I think it fell flat for me. Located in a plaza, there's plenty of parking and free. The inside of the cafe is a decent size and I appreciate them using a self-order kiosk. Their menu is extensive, but during my 10-15 mins of being inside, most people ordered their upside down halo halo. We opted for a couple pastries and their ube matcha latte to go - the ube bar was a tad too sweet and the ube pop tart was dry. The drink was okay, but nothing worth stopping for in my opinion. The pastries looked good, but the ube bar was too sweet and the pop tart was dry.

On this visit, we tried the halo-halo bread pudding after it was recommended by the cashier--and I was instantly sold when he mentioned it comes with a scoop of ube ice cream. It was the perfect balance of flavors: not too sweet, incredibly rich, and honestly addictive. Let's just say after the first bite, I had zero interest in sharing. My go-to, of course, is still the ube monster--an ube shake topped with Oreo crumbs. I do wish it came with a bit more Oreos, but next time I'll just ask (even if there's an extra charge, totally worth it!). The staff is always friendly, the shop is cute and cozy, and it's the kind of place you keep coming back to. Can't wait for my next visit when the sweet cravings hit again!
This is the only place to satisfy your Ube cravings. There was nobody during lunch when I arrived. Only a few people came to purchase takeout after I arrived. Since my Filipino friends mentioned how good their Halo Halo was, I decided to get their mini upside-down Halo Halo, which was the same size as getting a regular boba drink. I had to order without flan and cornflakes to prevent any sugar crash in the afternoon. The Halo Halo was Ube-licious, not too icy nor too melty, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a few jackfruit pieces, and colorful Nata de Coco filling. I even went home with Ube Cashew Brownie and Mais Con Yelo Bar. Both of these pastries were hard from refrigeration, so heat them in the toaster oven before eating. The Mais Con Yelo Bar was way buttery on the crust and had some corn bits inside the filling for a small bar. Ube Cashew Bar was like eating a brownie with crushed cashews. I recommend their Ube Cheesecake and Ube Flan Cupcake. This is the only location that opens late at 12:30 pm, while the rest open earlier. It gets busy after dinner. It's dim to dine inside, so I prefer to eat outside on a sunny day. Their kiosk doesn't let you tap a card during payment, so you have to swipe it the traditional way. No AMEX and cash accepted.
They charge 85 cents for a boba topping like other boba shops but give you a tablespoon of boba.
We ordered two halo halos (A mini and regular) and a truffle. Very good. Two adults and a toddler shared it and it was enough. We ordered on the kiosk. I used to come here quite often when the location first opened up and there was a line out the door. Now there is barely any line and a self-order kiosk. My family and i really like their upside down halo halos. We havent ventured too much into the other items on their menu but we do occasionally try their ube pastries. I remember their ube crinkle cookie being to die for! I wasnt sure why i stopped coming here, but then i looked at the price and remembered why very fast! Honestly... worth it for a sweet treat every once in awhile!
Today is a hot day today and I wanted to come to Cafe 86 since they're a Filipino cafe I believe since they serve Ube items especially Halo Halo. It's very quiet when I come here and there were only a few people here. I wanted to take my order in person but the employee seems to be too busy in preparing them. I waited for a couple minutes and then decided to order from the Kiosk. The Upside Down Halo Halo was interesting because some of the ingredients were swapped such as Ube ice cream with the yellow one. I don't know what it's called but I'll have to look it up. Usually Halo Halo's main ingredient is Ube ice cream, which is why it's flipped upside down. Anyways, let's talk about what they also included, they included boba, Leche flan, and other flavorful ones, which I don't know what they're called. I may have to research it. I'm surprised that they included boba, which isn't really usual to be a part of this dessert. They all taste good though. It's like other Halo Halo I had from many Filipino restaurants. There are two locations that are near my home: Union City (which is here) and Milpitas. Even though that the one is slightly closer to my location, I came here since I wanted to try going to places in Union City. Definitely will be coming to Milpitas location the next time I go to Cafe 86. read more

For all of the ube enjoyers, this cafe is for you! Their menu is filled with ube flavored pastries and drinks. Some of the enticing desserts include ube leche flan cupcakes, ube truffles, ube crinkle cookies, and ube butter bars. I tried their ube truffles and crinkle cookies and they were absolutely delicious. These purple goodness are sweet, tasty, and delightful. They also have milkshakes, lattes, milk teas, and many other drinks. If you're not an ube enjoyer, they do offer other flavors. I ordered The Rosie milk tea and it was pretty decent. It's creamy, sweet and floral. The only con about this place for me is the price. Their desserts can be a bit pricey with the small portion they give. Other than that, everything else is great. Customer service is on point and the atmosphere of the place is clean and spacious. read more

Stopped by Cafe 86 to try their popular Upside Halo-Halo, which I've heard a lot about. Presentation-wise, it definitely looks fun and Instagram worthy with the ube soft serve flipped upside down over the mix-ins. Flavor wise, it was decent but didn't fully live up to the hype. The ube ice cream was creamy and not overly sweet, which I liked, but some of the toppings felt a bit underwhelming and unevenly mixed. A few bites were great, while others tasted mostly like shaved ice without much flavor. As it melted, the texture became a little watery, which took away from the overall experience. Portion size is generous, and it's a solid dessert if you're craving something cold and different, but for the price, I was expecting a bit more balance and punch in flavor. Worth trying once, but not something I'd go out of my way for again. read more

Such good halo halo/ube desserts! It is hard to find a spot that does Halo Halo, only time is when you make it at home. I am so happy a spot like this has popped up. I am a big ube fan and this spot hits all those places. It did take a while for them to make it but, I did come before closing which is understandable. read more
It was my first time here. And I came here because I thought it was anime day! I saw the post on instagram but I got my days mixed up. So I'll have to come back tomorrow. I ordered the Ube Monster milkshake and Ube bar. So good! They took their time to make it too, which I appreciate because you know and can taste the quality! They have call graffiti art, with a facade brick wall, and cool collectibles. I'll be back for anime day! read more

I've known about Cafe 86 ever since they opened their first few locations in SoCal and was SO EXCITED when they announced they were opening in NorCal, and so close to me in Union City!! If you love ube, you HAVE to go here. Their entire menu is a heaven of ube. I've tried several items here, and I would most recommend the ube truffles and the ube crack cheesecake. I also wouldn't recommend getting drinks here - they're known for their desserts. The ube truffles were super decadent and flavorful - a slight crunch on the outside but soft and moist on the inside. The ube crack cheesecake was a decadent cheesecake with a crumbly buttery graham cracker crust. I've brought these to holiday parties several times and they've been a hit with everyone! read more
You know a place is good, when you see almost a full house an hour before closing. I ordered the kouki monster and a ube flan cupcake, and it was delicious! I finished the kouki monster on my drive back home, with a good amount of creaminess and Oreo flavor! Portion was really good, as I can drink a lot. I tried the ube flan cupcake. Forward ube flavor with a tad bit of sweetness complemented by the flan. The flan was soft and creamy. I liked how the service was attentive despite being busy. I was really excited to try this drink, but it didn't live up to my expectations. The matcha flavor was very faint, and it wasn't mixed properly, there were lots of specks floating around. Overall, it mostly tasted like sweet milk, and the ube layer didn't add much. My sister ordered the pandan matcha, and it was also disappointing. It lacked the strong pandan flavor we were craving and again just tasted like milk. It looks beautiful, but unfortunately, the flavors don't match the presentation read more

My main gripe is ours did not come with boba and when asked, the person behind the counter said it's because they're currently cooking some. Would've definitely waited for some or have appreciated being informed. They had a "take it or leave it attitude" which I did not appreciate. read more

We came here after lunch for their churrorito with Ube Ice Cream. However they were sold out already. We settled for a pop tart and drinks. The pop tart was good and not overly sweet. Ordered on the kiosk. The tap was not working and was instructed to swipe but that didn't work either. We ended up having to go to the counter and do our whole order over again. read more
Loved this place. When we walked in we were greeted right away, the cashier was really nice and helpful. Lots of good menu options, average prices. We ordered the upside down halo halo, iced cookie butter latte, and ube crinkles which is cool because if u get 4 it comes with a free iced hibiscus calamansi cooler! Everything we tried was really good, especially the ube crinkle cookies were nice and soft and just perfect amount of ube and sweetness! Nice modern inside with games to play. My friends and I came to Café 86 to satisfy our sweet tooth, and it was such a fun experience! They got the Upside Down Halo Halo, which they finished in one sitting hahaha. I went with the Ube Flan Cake, but unfortunately, it was a bit dry. Maybe it's because I came two hours before closing, so I'd probably skip that next time. One cool thing about this spot is that they have card games you can rent out to play. You just hand your ID to the worker, and you're good to go. This review is solely for the drinks I tried. I had the ube milk tea and my mom got the coffee milk tea. We both ordered 50% sweet. My ube milk tea tasted like 150% sweet. It was unbearably sweet I could only take three tiny sips before throwing it away. I added egg pudding and really enjoyed the texture of it but it was hard to actually taste it because of the drink itself. The coffee milk tea my mom said was "not bad," and I definitely enjoyed her drink more than mine. I'm willing to come back and try their dessert items in hopes that they will be better! Service was quick and easy up at the cashier. Drinks came out within a few minutes. Place is quite spacious with a good amount of seats and it's uniquely decorated! read more

Love this place! Came here on a Monday night for some sweet treats. They have various options and tons of Ube! Personally love the Milo milk tea with boba and the milo cupcakes. If you like chocolate, I'd highly recommend! We also love the Calamansi juices they offer if you're looking for something more refreshing! The staff is really friendly and welcoming and same with the entire cafe. It's a cute, smaller sized cafe, maybe enough to seat 20 people altogether. We will definitely be back as we love the Filipino fusion treats and the drinks! read more

How long are the waits now? Is it still a line out the door or has it died down?
Lines are not as long as the grand opening. From my experience- I arrived 10 mins before they opened. I was the 4th person in line. I went around 2pm and waiting 15 mins in line.
Do they have a separate line for online order pickup?
If you place an online order, you just head to the general pickup area and let them know.
What's the difference between the the Halo-halo and the Upside down Halo-halo shake?
The difference is that the halo halo has a vanilla ice cream base. The upside down halo halo has a ube ice cream base.

They have soy and almond milk however any of the Ube drinks contain milk in the powder they use. You also can't get any of the milkshakes vegan. There is one vegan pastry but this location doesn't carry it right now.
