Finally, the late night boba shop has returned for us owls to burn the midnight oil! After the pandemic, there hasn't really been any place in the lower East Bay open past 10:30 pm on weeknights at the absolute latest, and many shut their doors even earlier than that. Since my creative juices usually flow in the wee hours of the night, and I absolutely hate working from home, this has been problematic for me. Now my dilemma has been solved! Housed in the former location of Tea Moment, Cool Tea Bar has completely revamped the interior with bright lighting and natural light colored decor. Gone is the Kei Truck filled with snacks, but the video games remain, and they are completely free to play! Now you can be Mai Shiranui in King of the Fighters to your heart's content. Cool Tea Bar is a regional chain with a few locations in other parts of the Bay Area and Sacramento. Pre-Covid, I remember going to the SF branch (aka My Cup of Tea) when I worked out that way. It is also like a throwback to the early 2000s "aZn era," when shops were packed with Jolin Tsai lookalikes and real ABGs (not the gentrified, watered down version nowadays). Jay Chou's latest CD blasting from the Onkyo surround sound system was the unofficial soundtrack. Modded JDM whips from crews far and wide also graced the parking lots. In this current day and age of fancy drink concoctions with various toppings, foams, and ingredients, and establishments trying to one up each other with over the top decor, Cool Tea Bar is a breath of fresh air that keeps things simple. The bobaristas are also super polite and very efficient. They speak fluent English, Cantonese, and possibly Mandarin (I have not tested). Each time I visit, there is a middle aged auntie, sometimes an uncle, and always a younger girl. Perhaps it is a family operation? I can't say for certain though. Oh, and the drinks? Absolutely splendid! As mentioned above, it reminds me of what boba cafés used to serve in the early 2000s, and that is a blessing! I usually get the Roasted Oolong Milk Tea with Grass Jelly, no sugar, no ice! It never disappoints. Best of all, whereas at other trendy shops, a tiny thimble of a cup will already throw you back 6 or 7 bucks, the large size here for a cool $6.50 (before toppings) is absolutely gargantuan, almost like the Big Gulp at 7-11! As far as the snacks go, this is where Cool Tea Bar slightly deviates from the "throwback" narrative, as they offer Mochi Egg Waffles in various flavors for us gluten sensitive folks, and also Croffles! I haven't had a chance to try the Croffles, but the Mochi Egg Waffles are quite delectable, and pretty much taste like the real HK style "Gai Daan Jai" (雞蛋仔). They also offer popcorn chicken and some rice bowls, so you can have a full meal here if you like! What we really need here is the States is the 24 Hour study cafés like in East Asia, but logistically, that might not be feasible. Until then, Cool Tea Bar will now undoubtedly become my new remedy for insomnia. Now if we could only bring back the JDM rides and real ABGs... read more

This was our first time ever at this particular Boba spot and we were ordering food from MJ sushi Dom walkway. My boyfriend wanted to get a waffle, but he didn't want anything was fake added in sugar and wish the honeydew was actual real fruit as opposed to a fake syrup. Oh well, I'm sure it's easier and last longer as a syrup form than fresh Squeezed honeydew. The lady at the register was very sweet and polite and we were surprised on a Thursday. This Boba shop was open until midnight. She said on the weekends it was open until 1 AM! Crazy!! I'm very clean and bright with some video games and music in the back for you to play or even board games with friends. They gave the Asian vibe of night markets in Asia. I really truly miss traveling and checking those spots out. So this definitely reminded me of a night market in Asia. Hee We didn't get any teas so I haven't tried that yet, but when we finally got the waffle, we took a couple bites and they were crisp, but not as crispy as we would like it to be. We took the waffle home with us and as we ate another piece towards the middle, we found out the waffle wasn't cooked all the way!! We tried to refry it in our air fryer, but it fried the waffle too much and honestly, it was just a waste of money at that point! I was next door getting food when I saw the sign for Cool Tea. They offer savory snacks and desserts as well as a variety of drinks. Their drinks range from milk tea, fruit tea, lattes, matchas, slushies and more. Service was quick and the employee was friendly. Inside had plenty of tables and board games. The tables were clean also. I ordered two fruit teas and their blueberry matcha. The blueberry matcha was really good and had real blueberries. Was surprised to see a Cool Tea Bar in fremont! Very solid place, nothing fancy or mind blowing but its what you'd expect. Every drink ive gotten has gave me a feeling of nostalgia. It doesnt try to do too much in a time where there are so many Boba spots that try to impress you with every little thing. There are arcade games inside, but ive never seen anyone use them. I got their thai tea and an ube croffle. I was pleasantly surprised as I was disappointed by croffles before. The cream was so good, not too sweet (one of the highest forms of compliments btw). And the croffle was soft yet firm on the outside. Their thai tea was okay, not that strong but still pretty good and light. In all of the drinks, you can only taste the milk and no tea flavor (not even in the roasted milk tea drink). The boba has no flavor and it was too chewy (needs to be cooked longer). I definitely underestimated this place Their slogan talks about using authentic tea leaves, and after trying it, I can actually taste the difference. Glad Cool Tea Bar has opened a new location! I got the grass jelly roasted milk tea and the strawberry smoothie. You can adjust the sweetness on the smoothies. The drinks tasted like what I am used to from their SF Chinatown location! I will say that for the roasted milk tea, it doesn't have the strongest tea flavor (at least when it's 70% sweet), but the roasted flavor comes through nicely. This location of Cool Tea Bar is located in The Globe Mall. There is plenty of shared parking in this plaza. Not much customer service and they seem a bit understaffed here. I had been to their other locations before and was surprised to see that they had taken over Tea Moment. On my visit, I ordered their Banana Croffle and Jasmine Milk Tea with boba. I waited about almost 10 minutes, then 2 customers came in and the employee came out from the back with what I thought was my order, but he came out just to take their orders. I thought maybe I will have my order shortly after that, but I waited another 5-10 minutes, then my croffle was left by the front counter with no sign on my drink. I waited another 5-10 minutes before my drink came out with everyone else's drinks, even though I came in before them and have been waiting for almost half an hour at that point Croffle was decent - a bit burnt and too crispy, but I wish that they had more fruit options for their toppings, such as strawberries. The milk tea was actually good - it had a good milk to tea ratio to it. The drink is the only reason why I rated it 3 stars, instead of 2 stars. read more

I didn't take pictures of the interior but it was clean and they had a menu with a variety of options for beverages and snacks. I think this makes a good place for friends to hangout. The employee was very welcoming and kind, which I always appreciate when I'm going on my food adventures. I got an original mochi egg waffle which wasn't overwhelmingly sweet. It paired well with my jasmine milk tea with pearls. I usually get less sugar (in this case I didn't) so it was sweeter than what I prefer, however it was still very flavorful and did not disappoint. They also make croffles too, that are $7 each. There is a sign for popcorn chicken, fries, & something else. No pricing for that. The area is very spacious and good if you want to do some work or meet some friends. The drinks come in regular and large. Large was bigger than what I thought. We got 2 drinks and popcorn chicken and paid $27.10. Don't get 120% sweetness. The drinks come at a good sweetness level. The two people at the counter were very nice and patient. It has this deep, rich flavor that's not too heavy, and the house-made grass jelly topping?? Easily a 10/10. It's soft, slightly herbal, and pairs perfectly with the tea. I literally crave it and can eat that topping alone. Also, their party packs are such a W. I've ordered them a couple times for kickbacks and they're always a crowd pleaser. Such a friendly and warm experience! The owners are always smiling and so hospitable. The drinks were perfect and I loved the fries and croffle! Their tea's are authentic and you can really taste the natural (no chemically) flavor. I 100% recommend and will keep going back there again.
