I have been visiting Cafe 1 when I visit Fort Bragg for the last 25 years. This is one of the best places in town for b'fest/lunch. The family run place offers a classic diner ambiance with good friendly service, superb quality food, and an extensive menu featuring mostly vegetarian with a few meat items. They also offer a good robust coffee, whole leaf teas steeped in a large tea pot, as well as booze for those early bloody marys and margaritas. Breakfast and brunch all day on a Saturday! And a good mix of both vegetarian and omnivorous dishes so there's something for everyone here. At noon on a Friday there was a line, but service was fast and friendly and they offered to bring my order out to the car so I could wait with my kids buckled in for our to-go order. The corned beef hash was delicious. On the down side, they forgot my toast. On the up side they added a free scone which was also delicious. My wife liked the hippy egg scramble and joked about how it was authentic hippy food and she could practically taste the healthiness. The fried polenta was disappointing - large cubes of somewhat soggy and bland polenta instead of thin crispy wafers. The kids liked their quesadillas and I thought the leftovers i tried were food. Definitely not "authentic" mexican food, but very authentic norcal hippy food. Which makes sense since this isn't a mexican restaurant. I love that this place has transitioned to all-outdoor, has big signs requiring masks, and all the employees treat it seriously. That's what we need from restaurants and businesses in order to get covid under control and let us all get back to normal. Five stars, minus one for soggy polenta. read more

I will never learn my lesson, will I? I keep hoping against hope that I will develop a raging appetite for organic health food. I keep hoping there will be a restaurant that will flawlessly execute on such a concept and that I will suddenly become a convert to a healthy lifestyle. Well, Cafe One is not it. Now they do a good job in their menu of describing such food in a tempting way, so much so that I tried the $8.95 Shiitake Mushroom Hash, a take-off I assume of corned beef hash, and I even kicked in an extra $2.95 to add tofu (see photo). Awful. Inedible. It was made up of chunks of sweet potatoes, red peppers, and onions mixed in with the shiitake mushrooms. The chunks of tofu, to my surprise, were not mixed into the hash but placed on the side as if they could stand on their own. They can't. Even with a dousing of hot sauce, the plate was beyond bland since it tasted like the ingredients were seared without any oil. The best part of my breakfast was most definitely the strawberry scone that I ordered as a replacement for the organic wheat toast (see photo). Jamie W. had much better luck with the $10.25 Cafe One Turkey Bacon Omelette because the organic turkey bacon was actually savory and complemented nicely with the mushrooms, bell peppers, onions and jack cheese. It came with home fried potatoes with scallions (see photo). Now that's more like the breakfast I would have wanted. The place was quite busy, but the waitresses were serviceable. And by the way, what's with all the pony-tailed men who eat here? I've never seen so many in one spot. weird, low trust environment. first, they make you pay before you even order (huh?) and then upon entering decide they want to be mask police and enforce face coverings yet they don't offer masks to their customers like they are supposed to. they charged us 2.00$ for two "takeout boxes" and gave us a paper bag. the burritos are also tiny considering they were 11.95 and 14.95, respectively. the breakfast burritos were really good though. our server was maria andrea. read more

The only reason why I'm giving them a 3/5 is how we waited about 25-30 minutes for two plates of food and they both came out kind of bland to the point where we drenched it in hot sauce and/ketchup to make it better. Today was the second time we have eaten here, and both times and been about the same. The food is advertised as organic, which is a plus. It appears to be a family operated business. Cash or debt cards only, and no credit cards accepted. Service is on the slower side. When ordering a non-carbohydrate restricted diet, the choice was full price with or without the carbs. Other places in tow will sub an extra egg in place of all the carbs, but not here. Today we asked for water, but we did not get any ice in the water. I also saw one of waitresses fill a glass of water and then looked in to it. She saw something in it and dumped some water out. The waitress refill the Sam glass, and serve it to a table. The food was ok. We have eaten at other breakfast places in town, and this one was not one of our better choices. We will be not returning her for any future meals. Stopped in here for some breakfast, and I have to say that for a pretty small sea side town this place is pretty amazing! EVERYTHING is organic that comes out of the kitchen. Even the chocolate syrup for chocolate milk is organic. I had the pancakes which were super fluffy and almost like sponge cake, which is perfect for soaking up that 100% REAL organic maple syrup, the cage free eggs, and free roaming pork bacon were an awesome addition to the cakes. I also had a small cup of Orange juice, and I have to say, that is the freshest I've had in a long time. The staff are friendly, and helpful. Absolutely the worst service imaginable. We we were the second group of people waiting in line to be seated. We were there for almost 15 minutes, and the couple in front of us have been there for longer, and no one was even acknowledged that we were all standing there. I assume it was the owner asked the first couple if it was just two of them, and then walked away and started doing other things. There were plenty of empty tables and clearly they didn't want the business. So we all walked out, including two more people that had walked in behind us, and went somewhere else. Never even had a chance to try the food, but a couple sitting there had mention that the place isn't worth it and their food is horrible and that they had been waiting for quite some time just to get a refill on their coffee. The pancakes were thin and a bit sweet for my liking. The coffee was very good however. Service was basic, probably due to Covid precautions. You place your order at the cash register, take a number and sit down. After serving the food, no one came back to check if I needed anything else or to give me a refill on the coffee. Credit cards were not accepted when I dined here, only cash or debit. The decor is plain and basic, has counter space like a diner.
