We checked in and were looking for a place to eat. Their main restaurant was being renovated and that left us with Cabinet. Not worth it!! At all. $35 each for the buffet. Two proteins a bland fried cod(I think it was cod) and a Chicken in Jus. It was not even 8 o'clock on a Saturday. There was slim pickings. The soup -potato leak- was a brown pasty mess. The chicken was ok but under seasoned and a little dry. If the wind chill outside was not -10 we would have gone somewhere else. All in all between the $35 each plus tax, tip and a service charge we were over $100 and disappointed. I remember when Cabinet first opened some years ago, and it was nice returning during a recent trip back to DC for work meetings. My colleague and I had free breakfast included with our hotel rooms, and we headed down to Cabinet before going to meetings. The breakfast buffet was really quite ample, boasting everything from a nice spread of fruit to French toast and pancakes to various meats (including non-pork options, which was great for me) and much more. Maybe no one else cares about this but me, but they also had the mini-jars of strawberry jam and such...I love those! I enjoyed my breakfast and felt powered up to tackle the day. It was hot and fresh, and the presentation of the delivery was great. It was a satisfying breakfast for me. I ordered the peanut butter overnight oats and buttermilk pancakes with banana - and it came with its own bottle of maple syrup. Definitely delectable, tasty, filling. Portion sizes together were great - if you ate the pancakes alone though it might not be filling because they're four small ones stacked together. I liked the taste and flavor of each one! I am not exactly optimistic about the quality of any sort of breakfast buffet most of the time, but we found the quality to be good and the options to be plentiful. I had some fresh tasting eggs, a bit of coconut quinoa, some gluten free bread, and one or two other things that I don't recall. It is also at a reasonable price point all things considered. Cabinet is the primary restaurant within the Grand Hyatt Washington on H Street, N.W. As with most high end hotel fooderies, prices are steep, but at least this one had a very interesting design on three levels in the left front corner of the expansive inner courtyard that gives this Hyatt its grandiose attractiveness. It opens at 6:30 A.M. to accommodate those of us with early starts to the day, which unfortunately, was us. Their coffee is good. The orange juice freshly squeezed. And the breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg & cheese on choice of croissant, english or white, tasty, runny and filling. The cost definitely crafted for an expense account. Luckily, we were being comped. Service was scaled to the quality of the facility. We were well cared for. It was nice to be pampered. Outside the Trump rally was just getting started. We made it to our meeting by walking the few blocks to another hotel closer to the White House and were witness to unfortunate history. read more

The Caninet is one of the in house restaurants in the Grand Hyatt Hotel. This is the only restaurant that that is open for full service breakfast is in the hotel which starts at 7am. They have a wide ranging menu as well as a large buffet. The space is quite large overall so it should be easy to get a table quickly. I had the buffet and it was just ok. The eggs were scrambled eggs which unfortunately tasted like you would expect from a buffet. The bacon was slightly over done and a bit too sweet for my taste as it was an applewood smoked bacon. The sausage Pattie's also were very overdone and required some force to cut through. They have a wide range of other common American breakfast options as well like pancakes and french toast which I did not have. They had what I would consider a more European style small breakfast of cold meats and cheeses available as well. They did have a good selection of healthier options such as chia seeds, yogurt, etc. The star of the buffet in my opinion was the fresh fruit. It was very good, fresh and full of flavor. They also had a wide array of breads to choose from as well. The buffet is a bit expensive in my opinion at $30. I would probably not come back unless it was included in the room rate or something like that. read more

Nice environment and decor, The food was very basic, fresh, decent prices, you asked theyll make special omelette, the pumpkin pancakes delicious, orange juice is fresh. As you eat you hear relaxing music to go with your meal, all the Staff were great our bilingual Waiter Mr. Carlos excellent service, he made my meal very enjoyable. I am pretty surprised this place is not more well known than it is. I believe this place should have a long list of raving reviews. Maybe they are not as in the public eye because they are hidden away in a hotel. I hope people can one day see what I see in this restaurant. First off, the service and wait staff is so friendly. They are so efficient and do their best to make you feel comfortable! The staff knows how to make their customers leaving satisfied and happy. Second of all, the food here is what makes this place shine. You must order their grits topped with bacon and jalapeño jam. The bacon and jalapeño jam is addictive crack. That jam alone is something I can eat alone by the pound. To add that jam on top of a perfectly cooked bowl of grits is someone every restaurant should do. Lastly, it's a classy, updated, trendy and modern setting. And what's better than doing brunch in a classy, updated, trendy and modern setting in Washington, D.C. like the cabinet. Ordered room service breakfast here during a stay at the Gran Hyatt. Prices were a little steep but hey, its room service so I cant dock them for that. Delivery was very quick and professional. Unfortunately, the hot food (blue crab hash, chicken and apple sausage, and pancakes) was lackluster. The cherry cheesecake muffin was pretty good. We stayed at Grand Hyatt several times and enjoyed the buffet package with the room. The lady at the front desk always was pleasant and Doris, the wonderful waitress remembered us from last year! We requested a table in her section daily, and on my husbands birthday she and the staff came over with a dessert and sang to him! What a wonderful surprise! The omelet station is my favorite and the large selection of fresh fruit. Even the staff who cleans up and reset the tables was very pleasant and always said hello. I went there for Mother's Day brunch. I was surprised that I was able to secure a reservation 3 days in advance, now I know why. The food is horrible and the selection less than desirable.
