Neither did Noel, but he was very upfront and straightforward with me and was able to quickly make a diagnosis and let me know that because of my computer model and the way it was damaged, he wouldn't be able to recover my data. Rather than just giving me my computer back and sending me on my way, he suggested another company that may have the capability AND he offered to facilitate the process for me. I brought in my broken Razer laptop to the proprietor of this business and I had a great (and honest) customer service experience. I know a little bit about computer repairs myself, but since I was dealing with a laptop I couldn't trust myself to mess with it. He wasn't able to fix the problem I had, but that was not his fault at all. Razer laptops are extremely shitty computers, and he told me they're notorious for failing motherboards. He didn't charge me for any of the labor but told me he tried everything he could and educated me on the situation. I have nothing but *AMAZING* things to say about Noel at BYOD computers. My 2010 Macbook was having problems - slow and sometimes non-responsive trackpad, date and time going back to some wacky time in 2008, and battery draining incredibly fast and then barely charging at all - and I chose to completely ignore them until the week before my last ever final (which is 50% of my grade, btw) when my computer would turn on but refuse to charge when it was plugged in. I scoured Yelp for several computer repair shops in various neighborhoods which I frequent (Culver City, Chatsworth, Granada Hills, Mid-city, Downtown LA) and messaged several businesses with questions about how much it would cost to fix and how soon the fix could be completed. Several businesses got back to me - and all the quotes were relatively the same (about a $20 difference at the highest point) - however many businesses would have to order the part (one place quoted me an 8-9 day turnaround - something I just could not afford!) Noel was the only one who had the part in stock and quoted me an awesome turn around time of "15-20 minutes" I took my computer to Noel this weekend and as his building elevators are secure on weekends he came down to get me and another kid who was having computer problems also during a really stressful finals week. Noel was personable and friendly and I greatly appreciate how he took the time to simplify and explain the problem my computer was having to me. Noel showed me the new battery and how it was supposed to look. After he removed my battery he showed me both side by side and I could visibly see the difference in my warped battery. Noel also showed me how many "cycles" my computer had been through - over 500 - and told me that somewhere in the 300-400 range was normal before batteries started to have problems. He explained that all the time/date problems and trackpad problems were due to the battery pressing up and expanding. All the work was done right in front of my eyes and sure enough within 20 minutes I had a brand new working computer. He explained to me to let it fully cycle one or two times so that the new battery would begin to kickstart itself. I really appreciate his fast and friendly service and appreciate that he gave me a 6 month warranty on the new battery and told me to let him know if I have any problems at all. I can't even remember why but I think it was something simple like replacing the screen on my iPhone. Fast forward a couple years later and on my trip in China, I dropped my phone into a toilet (yea, so gross! Good thing it was a western toilet and not squat) and it completely died. Normally it wouldn't be a big deal l, especially since it was a work phone, except had all the pictures from my two week trip in Asia, which also happened to be the final family trip before my mom's passing. Avoid at all cost. My son wanted to install ssd and ram into his laptop for which he was bringing in the parts. It required no cloning of the ssd, and there are two slots. It's a recent Alienware so the slots are easily accessible. ie., remove the back cover, and pop in the sticks. They are visible upon removing the cover. The owner quoted my son $150 for a simplistic process, which requires at most 10 minutes. Typically, $40 -$60, and $100 max if ssd is being cloned. But as mentioned previously, no cloning required. Highway robbery at its finest! I have been an EE for the past 30 years. But had an accident 3 years ago where I have lost dexterity in my hands. Otherwise, I would have done the process myself. My son is 12, and a bit of a scary cat, and was worried about damaging it. Even with me wanting to walk him through the process. I understand professionals need to be compensated for time and expertise, but this was purely exploitive behavior of the owner. AVOID!!!!!!!! read more

If you have a broken or unresponsive external drive, don't waste your time shopping around anywhere else, this is the place to go. I had a drive with thousands of dollars of music and TWENTY years of photographs that all of a sudden became unresponsive. I had thought I had this backed up on another drive in case this happened, but I had not. A friend recommended BYOD and Noel was kind, understanding and (this may sound silly) not judgmental of me for not having proper backups. He explained how to avoid this situation in the future.
