I guess all the bad reviews are right. Needed my Apple Watch battery replaced and was quoted $150 and told I would get a new watch. I was hesitant since I could have just bought a new watch and put that $150 towards it, but I was swayed to replace it, so I did. Works great but later I find out if I would have taken it directly to the Apple Store, just down the street I would have been charged $99. I understand it's a business, but your prices should be similar to those at the Apple Store. Or at least tell people, so they have the option to walk a few blocks down and not pay as much. Guy working at the store pretended like he was working on my MacBook Pro but he did absolutely nothing with it as I was observing him from the outside. 15 minutes after he was finished 'chilling' he came out and said it will cost $100 to re-install MacOS but was not completely sure if it will be fixed at all. I scheduled an appointment with the Genius Bar in Manhattan Beach the following week and they fixed everything for FREE!!! I originally went to Downtown Hi-Tech for Liquidity Damage issues for my MacBook Pro. Nothing was wrong with my laptop when I brought it in, but I wanted it checked out and cleaned just to be safe. The guy at the counter was nice and answered all my questions. Took 3 business days to finish. After I got it back, they said everything was good to go. When I turned it on to use later that day, the bottom left corner of my trackpad was suddenly stiff/stuck. Everywhere else would click, except the bottom left. The trackpad was completely fine when I brought it in to get checked out for liquidity damage and they mentioned nothing about any trackpad issues when I picked it up. So I brought it again so they could check out the trackpad. The technician took it to the back for 20 minutes. He came back to tell me there's nothing he could do and that liquid corrosion probably damaged my trackpad so I'll need to replace it. And he made sure to mention that they can replace the trackpad (trying to scam me and have me pay more to fix my laptop). None of this made sense because I brought it in to get liquid corrosion fixed in the first place. They would've mentioned if my trackpad was damaged and needed replacement if it were from liquid corrosion. I took it to Melrose MAC in Burbank instead for a second opinion. They took it to the back and in LESS THAN 5 MINUTES, the technician came back and somehow fixed it free of charge. DO NOT GO TO DOWNTOWN HI-TECH. From all the reviews and my experience, it's too much of a gamble to take your devices here. Either go to the Apple store or I highly recommend Melrose MAC for legit services. read more

This man, Diego, physically harassed me. I filed a police report on him. I have NEVER written a negative review in my life. The absolute worst experience I have ever had in any business ever. I came in for issues with my touch bar. He charged me $800 to fix it. I had told him that this computer had been repaired multiple times before, so asked if I should buy another one. He insisted he could help. The next week, I picked up the computer and the touch bar still wasn't working. I called him annoyed that the issue wasn't resolved. He instead was defensive saying the computer had issues from prior repairs, he won't fix it again. So basically I paid $700 for a new top case and still the same issues as before. We set up time to go to this store, and when I got there, he was irritated and repeated that the computer had been fixed 3 times before. I asserted that he had not fixed the problem I originally came to him with and charged me for a part I did not need replaced. He grabbed my laptop and my jacket and physically removed me form his store, leaving me shaking and crying in my car. This is actually the biggest RIP OFF ever. If you want someone to charge you a grand to replace a part in your computer that does not need to be fixed, this is the person. COMPLETE FRAUD AND HARASSER! Do not go if you are alone and a woman. Found this shop based on issuing a support request on Apple's website, which referred me to this authorized provider. Dropped off a 2018 15" Macbook Pro, one of the ones that had a defective keyboard from the factory. Was told it might take 2 weeks because of the Texas ice storm disrupting the supply chain, however the machine was still ready to go, perfectly repaired in 1 week, completely free of charge. Service was friendly and responsive, even sending me a text the night before they opened so I could get there bright and early and pick it up. This is the WORST place you can go to take your computer or phone. PLEASE do yourself a favor and go to any other. I made the mistake of not looking at the reviews before going and paid the price. I took my MAC laptop which had been really slow and having issues. The guy there told me to buy a new hard drive and a new fan making me believe it would last for a couple of more years and I did. The total for everything was almost $400. When I picked up the "fixed and almost new" computer and turned it on at home, it felt as slow as before taking it to get fixed. It felt like they literally did NOTHING TO IT!!!! When I went back asking for an explanation they "diagnosed" something else that was over $300 to fix! Why didn't they tell me this in the first place??? I would've never paid that much. I asked for a refund, they gave me a lot of push back and ended up charging anyway for their TERRIBLE service. I followed up for MONTHS because they never gave me the actual refund. I had to open a case with my bank to get it. I would give negative stars to this place if I could. They're SCAMMERS. read more

To paraphrase John Donne, "Ask not for whom the spinning wheel of death tolls...it tolls for thee, Mac user..." ...had that most common of Apple computer issues that prevented me from getting any work done-- the spinning color wheel of death. I thought about taking my gear to the Genius Bar, but luckily, the Apple website recommended Downtown Hi-Tech, which was less than a mile away, on the bottom floor of the Target shopping center at Fig/7th. Thanks to their late hours, I was able to make a same-day appointment, and by early the next morning, I got a call back with the problem and the solution. Jerry and Leo took great care of me and carefully explained my options, never trying to up-sell me, but rather, trying to provide options that worked for my needs. I dropped my computer off late on a Friday, and by Sunday afternoon, I was back in business! Thanks so much guys! It's $75 for a diagnostic to see what's wrong but with a Yelp check-in, you can get $25 off! Plus, they'll apply the cost of the diagnostic towards the labor charge! Unfortunately the replacement left my iPhone X in worse condition. The screen is raised off of the body at the top of the phone and true depth sensor stopped working shortly after. read more

These other reviews got me nervous about service for no reason! My stupid younger siblings ruined my mid-2012 Macbook Pro a while back with some bullshit malware or something. We couldn't do anything about it. Eventually, the laptop refused to start up anymore in the middle of a semester where I needed to write research papers and enroll in classes on websites that were not mobile friendly. I was in hell. I made an appointment here for the 28th of June, prepared for a total hard drive wipe and hoping, at the very least, that some data could be saved somewhere. I couldn't even manage to troubleshoot for the gray screen issue upon startup (with the question mark inside a blinking folder icon). Rogelio was at the counter for the appointment I made through the Apple website. He did not seem fazed I had absolutely gotten lost and ended up inside the store seven minutes late to my own appointment. In fact, the poor guy was probably bored out of his mind because literally nobody else was there. He was able to BRING BACK MY OS AND HARD DRIVE INFORMATION FROM THE SHADOW REALM. FOR FREE (Apple apparently covers this). Bonus: I was able to play Pokemon Go and participate in a raid while he ran his tests and did his thing behind the wall, but the wait was not long at all. I am GRATEFUL to this store and its lone employee today. The location was a little tricky to find but it had been my first time at Fig@7th in general. There are so many bad ones and for good reason. They will price gouge you and try to steal your property if you dispute it. I am unsure why (actually it's probably money) why Apple has not revoked their authorized status as these people HAVE MANY complaints against them. You'd think that, after running a healthy client-services business for 8 years, I'd know a thing or two about customer satisfaction. Boy was I wrong! ;) I learned a thing or two in my visit today to Downtown Hi_Tech. ;) ;) Today I learned that the answer to a dissatisfied customer is to INSULT them. That is the sweet secret sauce of Downtown Hi-Tech. And it must be serving them well! Just look at their 2 star yelp average! They told me I am immature and they are right. Their wisdom and maturity is evident for all to see. The backstory is that, my wife brought in her Mac to have its keyboard replaced on Jan 28th. You know that issue with new macs where the keyboards get stuff stuck in them. They told her the repair would be done in a week, tops. After a week she checked in to learn that the repair wasn't done. They had gotten a defective part. We went in today, Feb 9th, to pick up the machine. I should have known right when I walked in that I was dealing with an excellent operation, filled with maturity and sure to delight any customer. We asked for the machine, said it's been taking quite a while, and they said it was "about a week" that they'd had it. I opened up my calendar and checked....12 days is closer to two weeks than one, right? I mentioned this and they're like "no, it's just a week". This was my first sign of Great Maturity on their part. Deflecting responsibility, trying to pretend that the great inconvenience my wife experienced (she had to take a work trip without her laptop!) was no inconvenience at all. Now that's excellence! We came to find out that they had received the new part the day prior, but had elected to not repair it, instead working on other machines, I became quite dissatisfied. I was surprised that they didn't offer to immediately start working on the machine, since they were well beyond the "one week, tops" they had promised, and have it ready for us in say an hour. They said we could come back in 7 hours, which is too long to hang out and wait. That's when we became dissatisfied, and asked for the machine back in its current state. That they provided to us. As we left the store, we told two people in the store that we were dissatisfied. That they hadn't kept their word with "one week tops". That the 2-star yelp average, which my wife had decided to look past, was there for a reason. One of the employees then chased us out the store, calling us "immature" repeatedly. Many times he said this word "immature". I felt insulted, explained that we ran a successful business and that this description was not appropriate. You can't be immature and run the kind of shop that I have built and continue to run every day. Then the employee threatened to call security. I guess his great maturity led him to reason that threatening us would keep us from spreading bad word of mouth. I just kinda laughed but -- I guess this is the second lesson in the Grand Lesson on Customer Satisfaction I learned today. When a customer is unhappy: 1. Don't go out of your way to fix their problem.. Make them wait, provide excuses. 2. If they get more unsatisfied, insult them. 3. And then threaten to call security (grabbing your phone and dialing it, so they know the threat is real) But seriously -- if you're considering going to this shop, pay attention to the Yelp score. Don't waste your time, even if you are downtown (like we are) and they are the nearest option. Go elsewhere, or mail your machine in, whatever. These people are pricks, they really riled me up, all because they couldn't keep their word. Not my fault. Why are you mad at me Downtown Hi Tech? When extenuating circumstances threaten my ability to deliver on a promise in my business, I bend over backwards to make sure my customers' needs are met as soon as possible. This is just normal. Apple gave me such a bs run around and with a quick phone call to Downtown High Tech they basically laid everything out. No bs automation , no waiting on the phone! It was such a breeze! When I went to drop my computer off for a battery replacement, there was no line, everything was exactly what they said it would be on the phone and they got the job done so fast! I was rushing to get there to pick up my computer before they closed and they were even accommodating to the rush hour traffic! I highly recommend these guys over the Apple Store!!!
