Food is good. I like the salad bar. It isn't a foodie place but decent. I do not recommend the escargots. Service is very good.

Food price / quality rating 8.5. Atmosphere is like a barn reproduction. I had prime rib, which was as good as prime rib can be, and the wife had a salad and soup (chicken jalapeno and corn chowder) that was very different and delicious. My daughter, wife and I were very pleased with the food and service here at The Butcher Block. This restaurant is the sister restaurant of Lake George's The Log Jam which we have frequented many times. We thought that this food and menu we're much better with similar items as well as items not found on the Jammer menu. (A huge plus) super friendly service! We came here for dinner. The total cost of the dinner was $64. i had a pumpkin ale which i enjoyed. For dinner I had the lobster mac & cheese. They did an excellent job preparing this dish. In addition, the seafood bisque soup was delicious. My wife had the chicken sandwich and she said it was delicious. The customer service was excellent and the place was clean. My mom and I went here for lunch today and sadly we probably won't be back. I had ordered the steamed clams for us to share but our waitress I guess must of misheard me and we got two orders of them. Our waitress Kelly did not seem very happy to be serving us but the two women behind us had exemplary service from her. We couldn't even finish all of our clams as they were very tough and chewy. We both ordered the French dip sandwich but were surprised that it had no cheese or anything but the meat and aus jus. They also serve chips instead of fries which was disappointing to say the least. We felt ignored the entire time and like they couldn't wait to get us out. I don't know if Covid caused them to go down hill but they are not what they used to be. read more

Service was great, the food however was no where near worth what I was charged. Prime Rib with Scallops (Surf and Turf) $46, the PR was probably a 12 oz cut over cooked, but more edible than the scallops. Scallops we're the size of a penny in diameter and tasted disgusting. Coming here was kind of reminiscent of visits to cookys and beefsteak Charlie's back in the 1980s with the salad bar and bread etc. And that's a good thing for those of you born after 1989. This is primarily a steakhouse but there are other offerings. My steak was cooked to perfection and besides the salad and bread there was also soup, maple bacon soup, which was delicious So if you come here it's like one foot in 1982 and one foot in 2017. Went here for the happy hour deal from 3-4 with about 20 of my friends. The waiter, Tyler was fantastic! He was very accommodating dealing with 20 annoying girls celebrating graduation. The happy hour includes 2 for 1 specials on draft beers and well drinks. The happy hour also has a special menu of half priced apps, salads, burgers, and sandwiches. 10/10 recommend! read more

My wife and I had an amazing experience here. I typically don't order big steaks in NY, but I gambled with the bone-in Ribeye. Absolutely worth it! It was an amazing steak, cooked to perfection. My wife's prime rib wasn't quite as flavorful, but it was exactly as a prime rib should be cooked. The bread/salad/soup bar is a really cool addition...a special treat. Whoa, whoa, whoa Butcher Block. Although this restaurant is large, it's so rustic that it feels much more intimate. It's going for the hunting lodge type vibe. Did I mention the salad bar? Hence why we went since I love me a good salad bar. We sat at the bar area that was filled with French speakers since we're so close to the Quebec border; what a great Valentine's Day surprise. As a s salad bar connoisseur, not gonna lie, it's not the best I've seen. Although there were at least 5-6 different type of deli style salads from potato to pasta to broccoli, great homemade bread and a nice vat of soup, the rest of the bar was a bit shabby. More veggies please! The breakdown works out like this: $10 for salad bar or every entree comes with a salad bar. I opted for the shrimp scampi for $16. That is a crap load of food for a good price. The shrimp scampi was mediocre at best. The man ordered the French onion soup which wasn't up to par at all. That good deal doesn't sound as good, it's true. The highlight? The butcher block with a big ole hunk of cheddar cheese that you can slice off and grab some crackers, free! Prices are super reasonable, the setting is warm & rustic and totally makes you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere in upstate NY near the Canadian border, totally I. A good way. I have no idea why this restaurant has only 3 stars!!! It deserves 5 all the way from atmosphere to their amazing menu!!! Our waiter Robert was right on track; really attentive & courteous! The Limoncello liquor and the Raspberry Ricky were the best drinks, so refreshing for a summer night! We had the buffalo chicken flatbread for an appetizer...it had a kick just like it should. Our dinners were all delicious: we started with a salad & bread (both great) mac n cheese & shrimp scampi (lite portion) for the kids & French Onion soup plus NY strip for my man! But the Chorizo & sweet potato tacos were out of this world! They may be an acquired taste but everyone should take a risk & give them a shot...they won't be disappointed! For dessert we shared the toll house cookie sundae...enough for 4, even though only 3 shared... scrumptious!!! First time here. Our steaks were great and the service exemplary (our waiter leveled our wobbly table without needing to be asked while we were at the salad bar!). The happy hour is as advertised, "the best on town" and featured 2 for 1 drafts including my favorite Brown's Brewing Oatmeal Stout. My only complaint is that we were seated just off the bar area which was very noisy on a Friday afternoon. I would have preferred sitting in the adjacent dining room which had cozy wood booths and was much quieter. To this day this is still one of my Gold Standards when it comes to steak (on par with steak i have been served in Texas). Friendly service, fast despite busy night, food was excellent. Loved the decor and environment, highly recommend to everyone! I sat at the bar and was provided excellent service. Pleasantly surprised to find this great inexpensive eat by the Cottage. Husband has been coming here for years and finally introduced me to it. Our waitress Olivia is fantastic; super friendly, informative and helpful. I am a bit of a picky eater and both Olivia and the chef were able to modify the menu for me. I had grilled salmon with some citrus and cilantro on top. The fish was cooked perfectly. I also had the salad bar which had a little bit of everything on it. I tasted my daughter's Mediterranean bowl and will definitely try that another time. Husband and son shared wings and mozzarella sticks. Had to sample that as well. The happy hour here is a win win. I agree, the food is OK. Not quite sure about the 'butter' that was served for dipping seafood etc. The vegetables were a generous portion and quite nice. What really stands out for me is the cocktails I ordered. They were mostly drink mix and exceedingly sickly sweet. Just, wow. I visited twice maybe a year ago and have not been back since. The first time I enjoyed my meal... but I do think that they could use higher value inputs. Real butter...less drink mix. So, if you go they do have good happy hour specials. If you don't like overly sweet drinks, ask them to hold off on the the drink mix or keep it to a minimum. I had a good top shelf margarita. This is what I have done at Applebees but the drinks were even sweeter here. read more

Great steak! I ordered the ribeye with mashed potatoes, and I enjoyed every bit of it. I'll have to try the porterhouse next time. They had a salad bar with a good amount of selections. I ended up making a salad with just lettuce, croutons, cherry tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, and thousand island dressing--it worked for me. The salad bar also had good bread (one loaf had raisins), and I had my fair share. Service was great, and the waiter was friendly.
