After checking numerous reviews and website menus, It appeared to me that Twisted Carrot was one of the most interesting restaurants in the area, in terms of menu and atmosphere. My dinner experience there certainly lived up to expectations. The restaurant is small, seating maybe about 30 people. I wouldn't call it intimate, but I would call it friendly. The menu items are enjoyably named, with some interesting ingredient and flavor combinations. Service is fast and friendly; 3 servers can take care of all the tables quite nicely, with time for fun conversation as you go. The cocktail list is small, and the drinks are simply garnished, but everything we tried was quite flavorful and reasonably priced. As an appetizer, the Moo Moo Dippers, filled with shaved ribeye and corned beef and combined with the remoulade sauce for dipping. were addicting. My salmon filet came atop a bed of roasted sweet potato and corn hash and a sauce on top to give it more interesting presentation and flavor. The pork medallions were similarly appealing. We passed on dessert, because most of the offerings had some form of caffeine in them (e.g., boozy affogato), but I'm certain they would have been equally delicious. I was surprised the restaurant closed so early on days they're actually open, i.e., 8pm. So if you want convenient dining, get there early for dinner, because it does fill up. read more

Really liked Twisted Carrot that we opted to come 2 times back to back for an early dinner. Best restaurant we tried in Plattsburgh! Farm to table energy going on, so food tastes very fresh and delicious !! Staff is also friendly and welcoming. Ambience is nice as it has an environmental feel to it. Very good food place with lots of fresh bold flavors and combinations for items. My suggestion is the Not Your Philly sandwich - SO GOOD. Service was great and the decor of the place was very aesthetic. Unfortunately, this resturaunt is a smaller venue which provided a short wait for us, but ended up giving over patrons a long wait time or eventually ended up chosing other places. The second we walked in I loved it. It smelled so good and the service was welcoming. The menu was filled with delicious options, including many for vegetarians. Also love when places have mocktails. The staff is super friendly - well versed on the menu and willing to make sure everything is how you would like it! The decor is adorable - it was very quaint and quiet and although freezing cold outside the decor had a wonderful warmth to it! And one of my favorite things about the experience was the beautiful little cast iron tea kettle that my hot green tea was served in. It's all about the details! This is a great little bar and restaurant in the heart of historic Plattsburgh. We always stop in on our way up to Montreal. Never disappoints the hungry members of our curling team. On our most recent visit I tried the Are You Reuben sandwich with their own homemade corned beef, the most delicious and tender corned beef I have ever tasted. The Twisted Carrot is a very popular spot and very cozy. Maybe 10 tables and a small bar area so I've always had to wait for a table. We ordered the Mango-Rita mock tail and the Spiced Chai Bees Knees. The spiced chai appealed to me but I did not enjoy the cocktail. We ordered the deviled eggs which were flavored with barbecue and Bleu cheese. I would have preferred plain so make sure you ask how they are prepared. Next we ordered Not your Philly cheese steak which was an open faced sandwich on sourdough bread and we opted to add fries. This was awesome sandwich and the fries were amazing. What a fantastic find! We were driving up to Montreal and stopped off here for dinner and what a great little place! Clearly the bar specializes in creative cocktails (and does some great mocktails too!) There are only about 6 tables so we grabbed seats at the bar and the awesome bartender took great care of us. Food was delish (potato cheddar ale soup, roasted eggplant risotto, blue cheese toast and spring rolls) and we loved it all. read more

Made a pit stop on the way to Canada at this cute restaurant. Parking was easy to find along the street, inside is on the small size, only about 7-8 tables and the bar seating. Wow!! No other way to start this review other than those 3 words. You walk into this experience and say cozy, but the best description is home. My interactions were at the bar because as single diner, I like to meet people. Patrick and Michelle were like talking to long time friends. I felt like I was at one of my favorite place near home. Then the food.... I found my last meal... the moo moo dippers were perfect even if wasn't almost St. Patrick's Day. The meats were tender and full of flavor. The brussel sprout slaw with the perfect crispness of the wrap added the crunch to balance the melt in your mouth slices of beef. The dipping sauce should be sold in stores for all to enjoy. THEN the scallops with risotto seared to perfection with incredible seasoning... I will be enjoying the leftovers and hating when they are done... excellence was achieved. I did treat myself even more an indulged in the butterscotch pudding with praline topping I am greatful that the serving was the perfect individual size.... I can see why the ratings for this place are so high! Was pleasantly surprised to find a restaurant of this quality nearby as we were driving back from Canada. Genuinely enjoyed everything we ordered, which doesn't happen every day. I recommend ordering the zucchini cakes appetizer, which was seasoned really well, so soft on the inside, and went great with the accompanying sauce. The burger (have a cow) was incredibly flavorful and juicy; one of the better burgers I've tasted. This is our favorite place to eat out in Plattsburgh. The food is generally delicious and imaginative. They have good fresh seafood and lots of vegetable options in addition to some meats. It's not a long menu, but it's an interesting one, and they often put their own twist on a recipe. Recently I had some sea scallops that were perfectly cooked but significantly too salty, and the waiter wasn't keen on hearing that, but I bet the chef wants to know when that happens. Next time I want to save room for desserts! There are outdoor tables. We dined indoors--it was packed--and it was pretty noisy from a group at the bar that continued their robust conversation at the next table. Just worth bearing in mind. They do take reservations.
