If you're passing by, give this place a chance! I can see why some reviewers marked low - prices of the food were on the higher side for standard items. However! The staff had very friendly ladies and the aesthetic here is so cute and comfortable, I truly felt like I was visiting a friend and a guest in someone's home. While waiting for food, I got to walk around to the patio and the backyard to take these great shots! (The patio seats were taken shortly after I took the picture by a large family, also enjoying this establishment). The chicken quesadilla I had was filling! The favorite amongst us was the meat loaf- surprisingly a little sweet? Very tasty! This really does seem like a great place to relax and pop open some drinks to share though. Hate to leave negative reviews as everybody is working hard and the world hardly needs anymore negativity but when I see a 4 rating review which leads me to trying a restaurant and then realize how misleading the rating is, I feel compelled to review, only in the spirit of hopefully more accurately guiding others. After a day at Ausable Chasm we were starving. Gigi's was the closest place so we swung by. Yikes. The food was mostly inedible, honestly. We had buffalo and grilled chicken wraps. The chicken was a a peculiar texture and appearance -- not the kind of chicken you feel good about eating after a bite or two. French onion soup was pretty gnarly (I take some responsibility for ordering this -- probably not the right place). Fries and everything else were just kinda not so great. Grilled cheese was the highlight. Which tells the story of this place -- if you do try it -- order something they can't mess up. FWIW -- the ladies running this place were lovely! Mediocre food at best. Fried chicken was okay but the veggies were obviously a bag of frozen corn that was dressed up a bit. Wife had the fish that was sooo salty and soaked in butter, she literally had to drain it and then dry it off with her napkin to eat it. Kids food was the pizza and they didn't like it. I really try to be positive and understanding in my reviews, especially in the Covid era when restaurants may struggle with staffing and getting quality food ingredients from their suppliers. But our experience at Gigi's was lacking in so many respects it's hard to give this more than two stars. My parents had been to Gigi's a few times with their monthly dinner group and they were pleased, so when I went to visit them over my birthday I wanted to try it out for myself. I was especially looking forward to dining in the main dining room overlooking the AuSable River. Since it was a Friday night (10/1) we decided that it would be best to call for a reservation. When we arrived that Friday night, we were told that the main dining room was closed due to a wedding reception and we would have to sit in the bar area. This was never told to me when I made the reservation or I would have postponed a Gigi's trip to another night. Rather than a nice relaxing dinner overlooking the river, we had to sit in the louder bar area with TVs and lottery drawings going on. Honestly, we should have just left and driven up to Plattsburgh, but we decided to stay and make the best of it. Service was prompt and friendly, though not exceptional. My parents mentioned that it was my birthday and while the waitress wished me a happy birthday, at the end of dinner no small complimentary piece of cake or anything was offered - something that many other restaurants do. Dinner itself was 1-for-3. My mother ordered her go-to dinner, prime rib, and said it was way overcooked and the toughest cut of prime rib she'd ever eaten. Most of it came home for the dog. My fettuccine alfredo was swimming in a runny, milky sauce, instead of a thick sauce that sticks to the pasta - the way I've had it virtually everywhere else I've ever ordered it. Not to mention that it only came with 5 small shrimp. The best dinner, on the other hand, was my dad's - he ordered the scallops and there were about a dozen of them, all good-sized and cooked to perfection. Luckily, he shared a few with me as he could see I wasn't satisfied with my choice at all. I wanted to like this place and I wanted to enjoy the experience of trying somewhere new in an out-of-the-way area for us, but this time it just fell way short. I might give them another shot, but certainly not in the near future. On a side note, a week later the Health Dept advised of a possible Covid-spreading event at Gigi's due to that wedding reception the night we were there. Luckily, we were leaving as most of that party arrived and to date none of us have felt sick. read more

Service was excellent. Very friendly and our two dogs were welcome to join us out on the deck. Food was very good. My wife said her sweet potato fries were the best she ever had. She also had a burger that was pretty good. I had the fried chicken that was quite tasty. Prices were a little high but the staff was so friendly we didn't mind. GiGi's On The River is a new restaurant in a location in my home town of Keeseville, NY that has been several restaurants over the years. With new owners and quite a facelift, inside and out, it re-opened last week. My parents and I went there for dinner this evening to see what it was like. We made reservations for 6:00 because it's new, it's Saturday, everyone's talking about it, and we didn't want a long wait for a table. We arrived at 5:55 and were promptly seated in the dining room area (there is a separate wing that has a bar and other seating). The place was nearly full and there were people leaving because of the anticipated wait for a table. I'm sure no restaurant likes to see this, but I guess it's a nice problem to have! It was almost 20 minutes before we received the attention of our waitress. Not that she was doing nothing, mind you. She was very busy. Since we had had plenty of time to decide what we wanted, she took our complete order-drinks, appetizer, and entrees. Much to my pleasant surprise, the drinks came in about 2 minutes. The appetizer took half an hour, however. We had ordered stuffed mushrooms, which were very delicious. (Though it was odd that our bread plates were teacup saucers.) By 7:00 I had finished my beer and wondered how long it would take before that was noticed. (My parents were sharing a bottle of wine and would not have this problem.) I had only 5 minutes to wait, because that's when our dinner was served. All three plates came at the same time (something I no longer take for granted when eating out). I ordered the Steak Delmonico, medium-rare. It was closer to medium, but still a very nice steak. My mother enjoyed her salmon, and my father's scallops were amazing. He was served *9* scallops, each about the size of a half dollar! The waitress asked if we needed anything else, and I held up my empty glass. "Sam Adams, right?" she asked. She had remembered my drink! (Something else I no longer take for granted.) I was impressed. We were finished and had our check by 7:30. Comments: We didn't get any water, though I'm sure we could have had some had we asked for it. On reflection, I think this is actually a good thing. Why give water by default to people who might not even want it, only to pour it down the drain later and then have to USE more water to wash the glass? The Server's station is in a poor location just outside the kitchen exit. Moreover, the placement of one of the dining room tables means that servers exiting the kitchen frequently must walk through the dining room just to get to the bar area instead of taking a direct route. It wasn't exactly distracting...I just notice things like this and wonder if they'll change it. There was NO MUSIC! Yay! Not anything coming from any speakers, and thankfully nothing live. And the acoustics of the dining room were fabulous. We could actually hear each other without having to shout. We could hear that there were other people there, but not what they were saying. This is what a dining atmosphere should be! I had a direct view of the Server's station and noted that they were tallying up checks manually with notepads and calculators. I understand that they're just getting started, but hope that they'll invest in a menu/point-of-sale system that will automate that task for them. It will likely save them money by minimizing human error. All in all, we enjoyed the atmosphere and the food very much. I am eager to return and try more of the menu. It is great to see this place alive again! The recent closure of the North Country Club left a void in the Keeseville Dining Scene (if such a thing exists). I just hope that the people who are coming to see what all the fuss is about continue to come. I think this place deserves it. read more

GiGi's is a good spot in town and area that offers very few options. Had dinner here on a recent Friday evening. Large layout with bar and dinning room seating, plus an outdoor patio. Patio was closed though as there doesn't seem to be a fire pit or heaters and it was a little cool. The service is friendly and fairly prompt. Beer and wine is limited to standard options, nothing great or local. The food is well made comfort style, nothing too healthy offered. GiGi's is a worth a visit if in the area. read more

The wings are as good as you'd expect this close to Buffalo, perfect crisp with a nice vinegary hot sauce. They can bump up the heat for us chili heads. My wife's buffalo burger was quite large with all the usual toppings and cooked medium as she requested. The poutine was a little disappointing in that they use mozzarella rather than cheese curds. Such a shame because the fries under the deliciously rich gravey were thick and still crisp. Don't get me wrong. The poutine was very good. But it would be something to rave about with curds. Be sure to stop here on a sunny day. The river view from the deck is gorgeous. read more

My husband and I had a wonderful time here last weekend. Charming restaurant, hometown country feel with a large dining room, a full bar, a huge lighted outdoor patio on the river, and even a little bakery. Prices were reasonable and the homemade dishes were great. Interesting variety of dishes from American to Italian and more. Smaller towns don't always cater to vegetarian diets but Gigi's had a lot of options. I went with vegetarian lasagna which to my (pleasant) surprise was a vegetable lasagna baked in some kind of bechamel cream sauce. It was served in a warm dish, very flavorful, hearty, and filling. My husband got French onion soup (in a beef broth) and chicken cordon bleu, both of which he said were so satisfying, and I stole most of his fries, which were thick cut and just right amount of crispy. Topped off with fresh baked apple pie a la mode, we nearly rolled ourselves out the door in a delicious food coma. Also our server was attentive, fast, and very sweet. Highly recommend this restaurant if you live nearby or are traveling in area as we were. Very close to Ausable Chasm and a nice place to stop for lunch, dinner, or baked goods on the way to Canada too. read more

The staff and atmosphere are nice but dinners are over priced and food is not that good. Chicken special looked and tasted like a $1 frozen processed breast from grocery store, corn had more water than corn in dish, I specifically asked server if baked scrod is indeed baked and not broiled, she said yes, it is a breaded, baked filet. It arrived on a chafing dish, swimming in butter. Saving grace was a good salad. read more
