Got promptly seated at a booth & service came & my server was knowledgeable and recommended what I would do (you're gonna see what I'm referring to) & in the process got me a little bit of a bargain especially with my particular meal decision & did a prime rib with salad/bread/soup bar included. Ambience is very interesting because it seems from the 1980's music video days for few tracks I heard (not exactly bad especially now MTV no longer does music videos-?) but majority of music I heard was decent anyway. Butcher Block is my favorite restaurant of all time. everything here is the best food you will ever eat. the bone ribeye is the best steak I ever have eaten in my whole life. we have to travel far to the butcher block across the lake but it is worth it every time. all off the waiters are very nice and get you whatever you want very fast. There is also a very good salad bar that has bread and many other things. after you get all your meals you have to get the cookie brownie ice cream desert. As I was by myself, I chose to sit at the bar at lunchtime. A bartender was friendly and attentive, and gave a great service. It turned out to be some kind of happy hour lunchtime so it was buy one beer get one beer free. The burger and fries I ordered were prepared perfectly and delicious. The salad bar, although kind of small was very good as well and the turkey soup was delicious. In case I forgot to mention, or you didn't know, the soup and salad bar is included in the price of the meal. However, the service was on the slower side. It was very crowded, and we were seated in a corner, which made it hard to get a server's attention. Stopped at Butcher Block after finding out our plane out of the airport was delayed a couple hours. Ate at the bar area as the line was already out the door for tables. It was happy hour and the specials must have been good as the place was packed, loud, and there was a constant stream of wait staff going through. This was a very special night and I suggested to go here. WHAT A MISTAKE!!!! 80 year old on oxygen & hearing aids, 80 year old hearing aids, 55 year old with disabilities and a 65 year old. We made a reservation and requested easy access seating. we were seated close to the very loud salad bar- which two people with hearing aids is a nightmare. we asked our server if we could move to the other side of the area, sweetly and kindly- he nastily replied that this entire section was closed but he had to open it just for us and was unhappy to shift us. (it was empty) I sweetly asked for this favor. he grumbled and responded with distain and reluctantly said fine!.the place was not busy at all. He was so dismissive and rude all night. we could barely get his attention or stop him to ask for water. everything took a long time. He finally came to take our order. I told him I was allergic to pepper. (did I say black pepper or "pepper" I dont recall) I asked if the lobster had pepper- said no. He offered me 3 kinds of potatoes- I said does the mashed potatoes have pepper- oh right yes they do. Told me I had to be charged for the soup and salad but that I could not eat it. the food finally arrived (delivered by a different server) It had paprika on it. I asked her if it had paprika on it- she went and checked- it did. SHE OFFERED TO REPLACE IT! I said are you sure? she said yes and took it away. everyone had eaten salad, and their complete dinner and they were finished. I had not one drop of food the entire night. -no checking in on me. The waitress came back with my dinner in a take out container (no attempt to give me anything to eat while they were eating) AND TOLD ME I WAS GOING TO BE CHARGED FOR BOTH LOBSTERS. we argued. and the male waiter came back and yelled at us that I said BLACK pepper and was not responsible!!!! SO hostile!!! IT totally ruined the special evening we were trying to have. Then the assistant manager came back and said that we were definitely going to be charged. We explained again that I have not eaten one bite of food, please just charge us for one meal. Again adding unpleasantness to the evening. she says no, the manager above her said no while holding my dinner in a take out container. goes away and comes back and says manager gave ok to charge for one. we pay and no one ever speaks to us again. it was an awful nasty night. I went home and ate a cold rubbery lobster. I am embarrassed that I suggested this place. it ruined this special night on all levels. And if I think back on the last several times I suggested this place and had other special occasions here they were not impressive. And this night sealed its fate. By far one of the best restaurants in Plattsburgh! We've been to Butcher Block many times and we always have the unlimited delicious soup and salad with our entrees. We were seated immediately on a busy Friday night. The staff is very friendly and kind. Our waiter, Jay did an outstanding job. There was a very rowdy crowd from Canada and Jay was able to make it a more enjoyable dining experience by asking them to lower their voices professionally. The food is very good, and the bread and butter amazing! We ordered the Butcher Burgers and it was perfect! We always love coming here - perfect for families and date nights. Hey y'all. Not a current local in P'burgh, but had a family gathering there for a few days. We took over the bar and most of the seats surrounding it. Everyone was accommodating. I've been here before, for happy hour and appetizers and flatbreads and it was enjoyable. Based on that, I brought an out of town friend for dinner. What a disappointment. I had the spinach and artichoke ravioli which is a casserole dish filled with a soupy sauce that had chunks of artichoke and two pieces of spinach smothering basic storebought ravioli. Not At all as described, and ridiculously priced at 24.99. My friend had the stuffed haddock for 34.99. The fish had been frozen and the ground up not fresh crabmeat was plopped on top. Again, a ridiculous price for such poorly prepared food. The salad bar that comes with the meal was very messy with food spills everywhere making it look like a starving hoard had just gone through. This was one of those experiences where you leave saying I could have made that better at home. We left half our meal untouched. read more

I really wanted to love this place, but the bad just outweighs the good for how much it costs. Ok so the good: the smoked turkey Mac and cheese was decent. Portion size is massive, and there is plenty of turkey in it. I love the ambiance of the place. It has a great country feel to it and was very clean. The not so good: potato skins were burnt, one crab cake was cold, the rice was dry and flavorless, the green beans were raw and cold. The bad: the prime rib was cold, there was so much au jus on it the waiter spilled it from the plate trying to put it down. The prime rib itself was tough and tasted of nothing but salt. The worst part: the service. Now this, I know is just my waiter. Everyone else I saw seemed to check in on their tables, and the people who brought us food and cleaned dishes were great. The food at the Butcher Block is very good. Not the best I've ever had, but not the worst either. Skip the dessert, make your own at home. The salad bar included cold plates which was a nice surprise. I got the clams for an appetizer and wasn't too fond of it. Kind of tasted like seawater. Someone in my party got Crab legs and they were cracked ahead of time. Dessert: I would skip the dessert if you come here. Poor management! This one star has nothing to do with the food or staff, great food and amazing happy hour. I was sitting at the bar on 9/11/24 and some old man came out and started cussing out the bartender in front of the entire bar, making her cry and run off to the bathroom. Customers and employees were left in disbelief. It resulted in many employees coming to the bar and consoling the bartender and it was obvious everyone had distain for the manager or whatever he was. What a disappointment this was today! Instead of crispy, seasoned chicken sliced in the wrap, this was chunks of chicken(?) swimming in a runny hot sauce. Terrible! My daughter and I came to the restaurant on 10/26/2023 between 4 and 5:30 PM for the early bird special. My daughter got the 10 oz prime rib with French fries and I got the crabmeat stuffed flounder with almonds, perfectly cooked green bean and for the starch I chose wild rice. The prime rib was cooked exactly as ordered and appeared larger than 10 ounces, and it tasted delicious. The seafood dish was better than I have had in a long time. Our dinners were $22 each and they came with the unlimited salad, soup and bread bar. The salad bar was fresh and delicious, the raisin bread was a treat, and the potato chowder was perfect. The host was fast and brought us to a nice comfortable booth. Our table was handled by two people Lindsey and Jay. Both servers are hospitality professionals and they made a dynamic team. we made a reservation a few days before because it was New Year's Eve. when we arrived they did not have the reservation and told us it would be a 30-60 minute wait. we went to the bar and the hostess said she'd come get us when a table was ready. after 45 minutes same could see empty tables so my husband went to ask and they said they already seated our party.
