More of a classic diner than a hot dog stand, but we were a little disappointed by the somewhat below average version of diner offerings. We did not get the Michigan dogs, alas, and if we pass through again I promise to rectify that and re-review when we do. The service was friendly and we got our fill. The "poutines" was standard french fries, some jarred gravy, and some pretty tasteless curds, but you know, even bad poutines is a guilty pleasure and it's always nice to find it on this side of the border. I am very, very tempted, though, to downgrade this to a flat two stars, because there was a whole forest of gum under the table at the booth where we were, which is gross enough in and of itself (nice classy customers ya got) but the fact they hadn't checked underneath to clean the gum off was gross and a bad sign about general standards of cleanliness. One strangeness: it is really, really hard to get in and out of the parking lot. They've put up concrete barriers to prevent entering straight into the intersection, which is good, but we literally had to drive up the street and turn around in another parking lot and come back to the turn lane to get in, and then reversed the process to get out, so we could turn right away from the intersection.

Was four stars in 2018 when was first passing through the area. It is four stars as well in 2021. Place has updated outside. New deck seating area built outside is very nice. Today I had their grilled chicken BLT. It comes with fries, Cole slaw and pickle. The sandwich was very good but hard to eat as one whole breast placed on bread. Might fit better if it was sliced in half first. Fries were very good, crispy on the outside and soft inside. Will patronize them again next time I am in town.

I was passing through to the ferry and needed a quick bite. I'll share the pics that I received down--Burnt, dry, glacier hotdogs. I'm very disappointed! I'm posting this about 15-20 minutes after this ordeal.

Michigan Hot Dog Fries and coleslaw!

I had a couple of hours to kill while moving my daughter into SUNY Plattsburgh. 3 short exits north on 87 I found Gus's Red Hots. One of the specialties is the Michigan hot dog. Being a NYC native I know Nathan's and Sabretts aka dirty water dogs from the carts. Never heard of Michigan dog so why not try one out. It's a hot dog on a top split bun with meat sauce mustard and raw onions. This masterpiece is accompanied with nice fries and tasty coleslaw and served by Alex who was a really great person. I'm glad I made the trip here for something different.

Food was very disappointing. Burned with very thin tomato slice and who puts cheese on a classic BLT?!!

I typically get a room and board nearby when I'm heading north for business. So, I'll hop on in here when I'm local. Decent breakfast selection. I like to try something new each time.. but sometimes the flavor isn't up to par. I find myself going heavy on the salt and pepper.

2 Michigan dogs, French fries and cole slaw. Split an order which was $10.95

Beautiful place from the outside, so it caught our eye. When my friend and I entered, it wasn't as appealing but had a diner homey quality about it. We sat in a booth and a very friendly woman came to take our order. We're from Long Island, so we never had red hots before and were anticipating it. 2 Michigan dogs WITH onions, fries and cole slaw. Not 5 minutes later, they came to the table and they looked puny to me. Tasted good, pretty much loose meat on a hot dog with raw onions and mustard, not great but they weren't hot in temperature and seemed like a chicken Frankfurter. Polished it off and then we ordered pie! My friend had Reese's peanut butter and I got banana cream. Save your money, they're straight out of a box and not homemade.

Gus' Famous Red Hot with Michigan sauce (it's like a chili dog)

I love finding local diners that advertise they have the "Famous" (you name it). How can you pass that up? Gus' Famous Red Hots restaurant was a treat. Being a past Michigander I had to try the red hots with Michigan sauce. The hot dog was topped with Michigan sauce (which is a meet sauce type chili) and onion and mustard. ABOSULTLY delicious! Short of servers chewing gum you can still hear guests called honey and darling. The staff was fun and friendly. Gus' is a wonderful old diner with counter service, booths and an added dining area. It's decorated in an eclectic array of memorabilia, knickknacks and collectables; a fun place to brose around. #chilidog #Michigansauce #redhot #plattsburghny #plattsburgh #newyork #dinersanddives #hotdog

After checking numerous reviews and website menus, It appeared to me that Twisted Carrot was one of…read morethe most interesting restaurants in the area, in terms of menu and atmosphere. My dinner experience there certainly lived up to expectations. The restaurant is small, seating maybe about 30 people. I wouldn't call it intimate, but I would call it friendly. The menu items are enjoyably named, with some interesting ingredient and flavor combinations. Service is fast and friendly; 3 servers can take care of all the tables quite nicely, with time for fun conversation as you go. The cocktail list is small, and the drinks are simply garnished, but everything we tried was quite flavorful and reasonably priced. As an appetizer, the Moo Moo Dippers, filled with shaved ribeye and corned beef and combined with the remoulade sauce for dipping. were addicting. My salmon filet came atop a bed of roasted sweet potato and corn hash and a sauce on top to give it more interesting presentation and flavor. The pork medallions were similarly appealing. We passed on dessert, because most of the offerings had some form of caffeine in them (e.g., boozy affogato), but I'm certain they would have been equally delicious. I was surprised the restaurant closed so early on days they're actually open, i.e., 8pm. So if you want convenient dining, get there early for dinner, because it does fill up.

I've lived in Plattsburgh for a year and 2/11/26 was my first visit. I thought we were early but…read morethe place was packed at 5:30! There was only the high table by the kitchen door left but the food more than made up for it. We started with the fried calamari and garlic breadsticks. Calamari was tender and crisp, cooked to perfection and served with a tang sauce. They served the tentacles which is my favorite part! Breadsticks were toasted strips of Italian bread swimming in garlic. 4 may seem like a small serving but it was just enough of a carb. I had the stuffed chicken breast which was delicious, filled with prosciutto and fresh spinach. Filling dinner with enough left for lunch. My aunt had a cheese burger and the truffle parm fries . I didn't try the burger but it looked amazing! Thick, juice and cooked to order. The fries were a 10/10 so amazing! Crispy and delicious served with the best horseradish sauce Ive ever had Smooth and creamy with the perfect amount of heat to make your eyes water! If nothing else try the fries!!! After such a meal we had no room for dessert and leftovers. Our waiter Keegan was attentive and followed us out to bring us our togo boxes we forgot. So if ur down by the base I strongly suggest checking out this bistro
