The Michigan sauce is a bit spicier than we were used to, but not so much so that it was overpowering. The service and speediness and cleanliness of the place is not normal when it comes to a "hotdog stand quote, but we were pleasantly surprised in how incredibly friendly, efficient, and fast the service was. We've had excellent food a few times, but tonight the service was unacceptable. (Not the first time ) We went in and found a table, which I cleaned myself. 5 minutes went by and the server took our drink order. They never came back with our drinks or to take our food order. After 20 minutes of what looked like them intentionally ignoring us we got up and walked out hungry. It's too bad because it's one of my kids favorite places to order food and I love that there's a low carb menu. I even tip well when we go in for takeout. Thank goodness Clare and Carls is back open for the season. They need some new servers that care. read more

Everything I ordered was fantastic and decently priced. - The red hot (Michigan dog): this thing holds together! No fork and knife needed, I ate it like a hot dog and not a single ounce of sauce dropped. The texture was very nice, flavors well balanced, not overly salty. I was disappointed by the red hot the first time I tried it at another well known joint but this one got me sold - The "poutine" (actually called fries with gravy and cheese): amazing homemade fries - tastes fresh, sweet, not overly fried, almost the french-fries equivalent of al dente. Those hot fries go really well with the gravy. Cheese didn't really add any value - Steak sandwich: the pieces also held together strong, except this one was dripping. The meat was really really tender, almost melt in my mouth, cheese and bread made the "soft" texture experience complete. I kinda wish there was more meat - bread to meat ratio was a lot but doesn't take away from a great creation - Cheeseburger: yep that's real ground beef right there. You choose how it's cooked. I got medium, being warned that it was going to be very pink, and so it was. That giant piece of iceberg lettuce and tomatoes though were a bit too much for the thin patty, so I'd opt instead for a not deluxe burger or get the double. - Blueberry pie: don't think I ever tried homemade blueberry pie. It was good. Man overall every item was great, the service was excellent and quick, the price was good. Total bill: $20. This is one of my Plattsburgh top 3 now. Cash only. read more

I guess this is a thing in North country, specifically Plattsburgh. I live by the motto when in Rome, so I had to partake. It wasn't the best dog I've ever had. It was freshly steamed and topped with a meat sauce/gravy and fresh chopped onions on a soft bun. I think the meat sauce could of had a bit more depth, it lacked. I know, I know, a $2 hot dog meat sauce lacking depth? Really? You probably want to punch me in the face at this point, I don't blame you. This real casual diner seems to be a popular local 'red hot' spot. My husband proposed here 4 years ago, so we return each summer out of nostalgia. Good thing the food is consistently tasty! Hadn't been to mcswrenye since I was a child. Got a Michigan with onions and mustard, side of gravy cheese fries and a large fountain soda. Everything was great and the most expensive item was the soda. Meal was $10 and change and the server at the counter did a great job. read more

This place is sooo good!! They call their Michigan's Red Hot's and they are delicious! The Michigan sauce here has a bit of heat to it, and is not as sweet as other places, which is good! Fantastic onion rings and some of the best mozzarella cheese sticks I've had in a long time. You can pull up to the place and someone will take your order, or you can go in and eat, or just order to go from the bar. This place is well lit and the service staff work very hard! When I was here during a rush, the car hops were literally running back and forth and servicing the folks in the restaurant as well. I've never seen folks work so hard for the money, so tip well! I'm not sure if this place is still cash only, but I saw almost everyone pay in cash and so did I. Again, this place ran like a well oiled machine the night I went - Friday- but these folks work hard for the money, please be generous with these folks! read more

A true local experience! Great family restaurant and the Red Hots and Poutine were the kid and adult favorites. Only complaint is that costs are not posted so it was hard to know how much you were spending and it was a little more than expected, but at least food and service were good. read more

Unfortunately, this restaurant is the only one I've ever been to in Plattsburgh and ya know - I may never return to the entire city after consuming that sorry-excuse-of-apparently-edible-substances. Family of seven, three children, and no happy campers. Our server, whose name we were never offered, could not even look at us while taking our order. We were the only waiting customers, and the "fast food" took longer than necessary and didn't even come out hot. Their famous "michegan sauce" was said to taste like coffee grinds and salt with a lil spice. The bacon burger was practically burnt, and the overly crisped bun may have turned to dust if I had held it any tighter. The "fish and chips": a frozen square of processed "haddock" served alone. No chips. No bun. Not beer-battered. The putine fries - well, they didn't survive. They were drowning in that gravy. But catch this, the youngest didn't even like his chicken nuggets or french fries. He dropped a nugget and was excited to throw it in the trash. With portion sizes so small, it's sad that nobody wanted to finish their food. Sorry, but I will not be returning. This is my favorite of all the "Michigan" spots located in the Plattsburgh/Clinton County area. It's this area's version of a chili dog, without beans and much meatier and spicier then traditional chili dogs. Often Michigan's in this area are served with a local Glazier brand hot dog which is garlicky and red in color from paprika and which also had a snappy natural casing. but more often it's served with a regular steamed hot dog. The sauce is perfectly spiced, thick and meaty, and without tasting gritty or like spaghetti sauce which I've experienced at other Michigan spots in the area.. And the sauce has a nice kick to it They also offer home made fries which are a must and a nice bonus to their humble menu. They offer old fashioned car-hop service which is nostolgic but I prefer going inside to eat. And you can buy pints of their meaty spicy Michigan sauce to bring home if you prefer. If you've never had a Michigan it's a local favorite not to be missed. Make sure to get it With buried onions! read more

Tried out McSweeney's for the first time this fall. Got a bacon double cheeseburger and it was really good! They make it nice and tall and the cheese melts all over. Homemade fries were nothing special almost too greassy. Unfortunately being a rookie in the place, i did not try a Michigan which i deem to do very soon. read more

The Red hots with onions, buried are well worth the 2 bucks! Service always has a smile, and they'll even come out and deliver it to your car in the dead of winter. Priced are low to make it appealing for a date, and the food is all around delicious and filling. When in Clinton County, New York you have to try the Michigans (a hot dog covered in a meat sauce - not a chili dog). They are best in the North Country. Owners are friendly, dedicated family men and community members. Stop in and support a good local restaurant with great diner fare! read more

I can remember when they first opened. The michigans and fries were excellent. Over the years their food has gone downhill in quality. The hot dogs they are using have a terrible taste and texture. The michigan sauce tastes crappy. The flavor is gone. They plop the hotdog and sauce into a tasteless bun without draining the hotdog water and what you get is a waterlogged michigan without the taste and flavor that they originally had. The fries do not have that lightly crispy brown texture where you use to bite into there fry and you could taste the potatoe. Now you get these frys that are slightly on the burned side and been in the oil to long. And they seem to scoop up the burnt black pieces of frys and mix them in with your fry order.Man what a shame. Its obvious that they have been cutting corners and serving this slop to people who don't remember what a good meal should taste like when quality was more important than taking your money for a crappy made meal. read more

I had never heard of this place and drove by it at least a 1000 times and didn't even notice. I was going to another restaurant close by but when I crossed at the Canadian border and told the agent where I was going, he suggested Mc Sweenys. So I went! Oh my god, best michigans I have ever had. I have gone 3 times in the past few weeks and drive from Montreal every time. My wife thinks I'm nuts but.....
