We have tried their breads and croissants and would definitely buy them again. There is a case full of pies, tartes,and cakes for sale and we are tempted to bring one home. They always have someone working who is fluent in English if your French is not good.

It is a relatively modern monastery, built over the course of the early to mid 1900s. We went on a Sunday morning for mass and found the sanctuary full of parishioners and tourists. The Gregorian chant was beautiful to hear, although we weren't able to stay for the whole liturgy due to a very impatient infant. We weren't there for a tour, but did stop to read some of the displays describing the history of the monastery and the rhythms of monastic life. The colored brickwork and overall architecture is beautiful. There aren't a lot of spaces open to the public, but we still enjoyed walking around and seeing some of the snow-covered grounds. The monastery is known for its cheeses and jams, so a visit to the store was on our agenda. The store, however, was located in the basement, and the only access we could find was a flight of stairs. We had a stroller, though, and couldn't find an elevator. We ended up taking turns walking the baby outside while the other person explored the store. The grounds at this time (April) were mostly not open to the public, but I've read that they have some walking trails. When it was my turn, I didn't have much time to look. But it looked like they had a large selection of abbey-made items as well as a bookstore with a good sized children's section. I bought some postcards and a French-language children's missel for a friend, but would have looked longer if I could. The Tall Man picked up a four pack of cheeses for a Swiss friend, who loved it, plus some other goodies, but we wished we had some jam! They didn't have larger bags at the register, but they did have some empty boxes. There are a couple parking lots that quickly filled up for mass. I would love to know if they have an accessible entrance to the store. By the time I found some of the store staff, though, I didn't ask since I needed to go. We noticed others who either left strollers outside or turned back from the abbey entrance.

Pork takes a while to cook so that's a bit annoying but the beef cooked within seconds. If you're feeling more adventurous you can get all the fun meats, kangaroo, camel and etc. We didn't talk and appetizers as nothing really jumped out at us. But we decided that dessert to go was a must. We chose the cheese cake which was a really good home made cream cheese, with a crumble crust which was perfect. We have stayed at the Inn and eaten here at least eight times over the years and are going back again in a few weeks. We always order the fondue which is made fresh by real Swiss Germans who know what they're doing. Stay here if you are driving to Montreal from New England. The rate is $95 plus you get a 10% discount with AAA. Have a great dinner, drink a bottle of wine, stumble up to your room, wake up to a wonderful European style breakfast, hike the paths through their acreage, and then take off for Montreal which is about an hour's drive. I have to mention that the rooms are no frills but have TVs unlike many B&Bs. You are right on Rt 133 so you must be prepared to hear the trucks go by on the highway. They are all on the second floor which means you might have accessibility issues. My rating of 5 stars is for the complete package (dinner, room, breakfast). You might forget your stay at the Frontenac or the Ritz, but you'll never forget the romantic little nook you found in Pike River.

The beds are super comfortable on wooden frames, and there were no signs of bedbugs whatsover, even under the mattresses. Set in a very rural, remote Quebec town, but the view of the cornfields in the morning is incredible! There is a full continental breakfast in the morning starting at 8am I believe. Excellent place to stay if traveling from Vermont to Montreal. Tip: use AAA card for a 10% discount.

This is basically a milk bar where you can purchase glass-bottled milk, snd other dairy foods. The ambiance and look is charming. You can see this is a local's favourite. The good: Lots of milk, all in good old fashioned glass bottle (that you can return). Accessories like glasses and t-shirts (yep!) available. They have a variety of cheeses, spreads, and other dairy products. Staff is magnificent and resourceful, they made us tru a few spreads (and we ended up getting some). The design of the place is very modern and neat. The bad: There is nothing bad with the place, but the locals make you feel like you really are in their way, so it is really hard to shop without getting that annoying feeling of being a nuisance. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area. Their products are also in local grocery stores, but you will be missing out on the charm of this place.
