We were really looking forward to hotdogs and a poutine from Cantine de Ben on our way to the Eastern Townships. We arrived around 11:45 am and just in time because by noon the line was out the door. I really enjoyed the poutine and hotdogs. I loved the gravy on the poutine, it was the right consistency and full of flavor. Cheese curds were fresh and made the squishy sound against my teeth and the fries were just soft enough without being soggy. Solid poutine! I also loved their hotdogs! Their all dressed hotdogs had a chunky mustard onion topping, which I really liked. Buns were buttery and toasted rather than steamed. I only ordered one but should have ordered three, they were great. Overall I really loved the vibe in this place, food came quickly and there were lots of places to sit. I did find the portions to be a bit small though. I wouldn't drive to Granby just for this place but if you are heading to the Eastern Townships or are in the area, it's worth stopping by! read more

You can see this place a mile away with a huge neon Ben shoving a hot dog down his throat. We tried a few different varieties of poutine and none of us were impressed. The sauce was bland, cheese curds were good and fries were good. All together you get a mediocre poutine. The bacon on mine was undercooked so it was just layers of fat, the minced meat was not seasoned well and was pretty bland. The guédille was not good, lots of ketchup, coleslaw and a few fries. Go to La Fromagerie in Bromont. 100x better. read more

The chef/manager/owner? gave us each a half and half, so that we could try it ourselves. But that was far too much, with four more poutine places on the day! I figured that I'd try some and then box up the rest for later. Then I took my first bite. Hooked for life. The curds are huge and they squeak so loud, it echos through the restaurant. How fresh are the curds? I stopped at a fromagerie later in the day at 2 PM, and the curds had just been made at 1:30 PM. They were equally squeaky as Chez Ben. You just cannot get fresher. 7 stars for the curds. The sauces? The Italian is no regular pasta or pizza sauce. It's smooth and rich. Instead of tasting like I'm eating a pizza with potato crust, it really tasted like a poutine variant. We were told that the poutine italienne won the most recent poutine competition. No doubt. The regular sauce is one of the top, but does not stand over and above the rest like the Italian. 6 stars overall for the sauces. The fries - perfection. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, not overdone like so many other places. The service - perfection. Me being a slightly shy American tourist (since I had a French speaker next to me, I deferred to him for most things), the chef/manager/owner? gave us both souvenir mugs to remember the place by. There are not enough stars. I need a new category for "priceless." And for a downright cheap $7 (plus tax), you can get a pricelessly good meal at Chez Ben. Hands down, the best poutine I have found in all of QC. I do live in the US, but travel whenever I can up to Canada. I have many cousins in the Granby area, and without a doubt - Chez Ben is an absolute MUST STOP every trip. I can't even imagine not going at least once. Classic car hop style, all the way down to the paper hats, give this place an authentic feel of the 50's car hop. Although almost every order that goes out includes poutine, there are other grill items on the menu. Dogs and burgers, or so I have heard. This place is a landmark in the Eastern Townships, particularly for Granby and has been clogging the arteries of "les Granbyiennes" forever. I grew up in Granby so every time I come back to visit, it's always heartwarming to see that some things never change. The tacky neon sign, the same poutine, burgers, Michigans, fries, hot dogs, the outdoor seats. If you are ever in this neighborhood, you owe it to yourself to stop off at Chez Ben! read more

If you want to taste a really good Poutine, you got to stop at this place. In the summer time you can enjoy ice-cream on the terrace and watch the locals pass by on the road showing off in their cars. They call it " faire la Maine ". read more

This is the best place for the a late night snack, and pretty much the only thing open late in granby. It closes at midnight on fridays and weekends. They are known for their poutine which is very good indeed, but you must try their Ben Bacon and bourre bedaine too. As you'll read in my many reviews I am a poutine fan. Being in the area for a family trip and having had a chance to read what others had said I made it a thing for me to try this place. You literally cannot kiss the large figure of a man outside this place! Pots of searing inside and ample parking in a private lot. We decided on a small poutine due to the fact we wanted this to only be a snack There are only 2 sizes available it seems foe everything including just fries. They also have variations of poutine such as bacon bits or Sausage on top. Prices were reasonable. The most value would be the large poutine at $7. Well what people have said about the cheese curds was spit on. Amazingly chewy and squeaky. The taste is evident that these curds are fresher then what I've had before! The gravy is a different story as it reminds me of the gravy you get with Swiss Chalet. It's light and you can also taste the herbs and spices they use. The other thing I think of is turkey. The fries were crisp and sweet. In addition they were also not overcooked and over browned. Overall is it the best poutine in the province? That's debatable. The taste of the fries and the freshness and taste of the cheese curds were definitely a plus! I just don't think I could get used to the gravy they use. read more

When we visit Granby, the first place we always go to is Ben's. Not only is it the best poutine but it is a very different place. It is always full, with a line up but the line moves incredibly fast. All the cooks are men, dressed in striped red and white aprons and each has his own job from taking orders, doing the frying, cutting potatoes, to the cashier.
