    Canard à l'orange

I want to eat here because they serve the local Brome duck. I ordered the breast à l'orange which came with rice and vegetables. It was okay; the sauce was a bit lacking in flavor and the duck wasn't as tender as it should be. My mom ordered the butternut squash ravioli in a butter sage sauce, but they were out of pumpkin puree for the sauce, so they offered her a provençal sauce instead, of garlic, tomatoes, herbs and onions. I thought she should have tried something else instead, but she did like it (I tried it and thought the sauce alternative was not the best choice). My dad ordered the pasta with vegetables and chèvre. It was okay; he wasn't impressed by it. The table next to use ordered burgers and they were huge-they seemed to like them. Perhaps sticking to pub food here is best. I wish there had been a few more higher quality establishments to choose from for dinner. Eating burgers is something I like to do occasionally, but not all the time. The service was very good.

Beware of flies. It's a problem in Knowlton in July. This was hanging over the bar.

While most other restaurants in the region were practically empty, Le Relais has a two hour wait! We came without a reservation on a Thursday night and we ultimately had to take seats at the bar. My friends took me here for the Brome Lake duck. I usually dislike duck but went along for the ride. It was fabulous! The duck cut like butter and was prepared to near perfection. My major complaint is the fly situation. It was out of control. I had to swat a fly every few seconds. There are fly strips hanging over the bar and over our plates. That kind of ruined the experience.

The pantry lady recommended it to my friend and I...fanfastique! delicieux! only local Québecois wines and a limited menu. we had stopped as a first treat on a restaurant crawl. she had a poetically named white wine, so unique, bright with acid, full round profile and delightful fragrant finish. i opted for a truly memorable sparkling wine..unfiltered, so earthy, lively and full full flavour reminiscent of a great normandy cidre! for our "cocktail snack" we shared a remarkable pair of arancini, true to their name, but o so Canadienne...filled, i mean filled with tender shredded Goose served atop some caramelized napa? cabbage as a crispigh counterpoint along with a mild green sauce atop...mint? very delicate so as not to interfere with the delicacy of the filling.....mmm and with that earthy bubbly of mine, a total make out session.... and they played an amazing soundtrack! damn, so far away!

The server offered my mom happy birthday wishes and a complimentary Kir Royal. They both ordered the 3-course menu prix fixe, which was of exceptional value at $49pp CA. It came with entrée (starter), main dish and dessert of choice. My dad started with the organic salmon tartare, served with strawberries. it was divine. My mom ordered the organic salad, which was very good and copious, with tender fresh shoots and leaves. They both ordered as their main dish the Bœuf Bolton, which was served with carrots, potatoes, Montréal spices. Their meat was tender, but slightly dry, in my opinion and the carrots needed a bit more cooking as they were a bit too raw (could not cut into them). The meat was a generous portion. I ordered the Moules Frites special: $25CA for 2lbs of steamed mussels (ordered one of your ways), herbed french fries. It was very good. For dessert, they both ordered the Crémeux de chocolat Weiss with Dulcey Valrohna, dried bananas, and pecans. It was quite good. It was a very good meal overall and the restaurant ambience, music, and service was excellent.
